This is a cute book and the illustrations are outstanding. It is a good way to introduce comparison and materialism versus gratitude to children.
This was cute and explained gratitude for children in a very digestible way. It definitely helps explain perspective to kids while also not minimizing their feelings.
The gratitude goggles is a wonderful children's book about the importance of gratitude in your life, and takes a very colorful and effective approach to illustrating the message. We follow a brother and sister who's looking through life with "gray" goggles. Something is missing, they don't feel right and they have a never ending list of wants and desires. But then they try on the gratitude goggles and their world is filled with color! They are grateful for the blue sky and green trees. For the people they love and the food and things they do have. I also love that they discuss helping others feeling gratitude and spreading to the good feelings all around :)
It's a nice reminder to practice gratitude every day to stay grounded and appreciate all that we have in the world. I'm definitely going pick this book up when it gets published and add it to my children's library :)
My only note, and this just may be a me thing... But when the book talks about the gray goggles, I related a lot to it as someone who struggles with depression. But the message could come across as "oh you're not depressed, you just need to be grateful for what you and you'll feel better!" But as we all know, it's not that easy. But that was my only hesitation.
I loved this book. Understanding what gratitude is is an important part of the next generation. The author lets children know that gratitude isn't just material things, but it is all around us. The book was beautifully illustrated and it speaks to children in a positive fashion. I highly recommend this book.
Thank you to BooksGoSocial, NetGalley and the author for a digital ARC of The Gratitude Goggles in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
WOW! WOW!WOW!
Alongside these beautiful and captivating illustrations is such an important and relevant message in todays time. I think a lot of parents are struggling with the things addressed In this book. It's so important to instill gratitude in our children at a young age.... the thought of being grateful can become so lost with social media outlets and consumerism. Gratitude is the real key to HAPPINESS...
I truly appreciate this important adult topic being shown in a way that children can comprehend and parents can reflect on while reading to their little ones.
Thank you BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for an early copy in exchange for my honest review.
I love this description of how we start seeing things when we only see what others have and can’t see and take a breath to notice all the things we do have that make life exciting.
This is a very short, sweet book about practicing gratitude. The content is delivered by taking about people who look at the world through grey-tinted glasses and then people who look at the world through "gratitude goggles." It's a wonderful message with an age=appropriate metaphor. The illustrations are detailed and colorful, which I'm sure will entertain children, even if they can't read the text alone. This was lovely!
A lovely, colorful book for children to help them learn and understand and practice gratitude. Simple sentences, bright and big artwork, and simple rhyming make this a perfect book for a lapsit, or storytime read-a-loud story. Perfect for libraries Growing Up and Me sections.
An adorable book about finding gratitude in the world around you. I enjoyed this book, but found there was not enough of a story to capture a child’s attention. Great lessons to teach, but could use a bit more of a fun story to go with it.
Sweet, affirming book about teaching our children how to see and express gratitude. Just put on the gratitude goggles and change your perspective. Change your perspective, change your behavior. Change your behavior, change your perspective. Easy to say, hard to do. Any message to turn on the "light" of gratitude is a good one and this book is one such contribution. Worth the time and attention of any family.
An adorably illustrated book discussing just how much better life is when you are grateful for the things that you have. When you are looking at the world with gratitude for what you have your life is vibrant, but when you compare yourself to others so much that you are no longer grateful for your thing, life gets gloomy.
Wow! What a great lesson in this story! I would definitely read this to my daughter several times. I also really loved the colors!
The Gratitude Goggles by Andrea Mendoza-Vasconez, PHD and illustrated by Rita Nilson is a beautiful book that helps young students understand the abstract concept of gratitude. It gives young children concrete examples of what gratitude is and what happens to our sense of well-being when we don't show gratitude and instead express unhappiness with what we don't have instead. I like the visual of seeing things in gray and how it has a negative impact on our mental well being and that things will only get darker, but when we put on our gratitude goggles we see things in bright colors and feel a sense of happiness. I like that it gave examples of things to be grateful for that are not monetary items such as family, the sky, health, fishing, birds singing, etc.
I am a second grade teacher and when we talk about gratitude and what we are thankful for, lots of kids can only thing of superficial things and it takes some conversation to get them to think things beyond that. This book would be a great way to give them some other ideas to think about.
My own children are always comparing what they have to others and I am going to read this to them to remind them of the importance of being thankful for the things they have.
The illustrations in this book are beautiful and will help children of all ages grasp the important concept of gratitude. As a teacher I love teaching through literature and this is such a great book to use in and out of the classroom. It's a great book to continually return to as a mentor text and reminder of all the things there are to be thankful for.
Thank you Netgalley and Andrea Mendoza-Vasconez for for this beautiful and important book. I voluntarily read it and gave my honest review.
This book is very sweet and covers important adult topics in a way that children can comprehend.
Not only does it give insight on how to be grateful, the benefits of being grateful, and things we can be grateful for. It also shows the contrasting side, of how life can be when we forget to be grateful or think the grass is greener on the other side.
The illustrations are colourful and captivating as well as inclusive.
This is a great fun read that’s also educational for children
This bright children’s book introduces the practice of gratitude in a gentle and accessible way for young readers. The use of goggles to contrast the experience of shifting focus to what we are grateful for is a great physical prompt to help kids to shift their thinking. The writing is light, easy to follow and expressive, and the illustrations are bright and textured. This would be a great book to read together, to prompt discussion about practicing gratefulness each day, establishing healthy habits early on.
Thank you BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy of this book.
What a simple yet wonderful message! I love the open ended questions in this book along with the positive messages. I’ll definitely be buying it for my social skills class!
This book is so perfect to try to teach children (and everyone!) to remember to be grateful for the things that they have. Reminding everyone to be grateful instead of always wanting more material items is a great lesson for everyone.
This was a cute story about viewing the world with gratitude. Perfect for introducing the concept to littles. Explains what happens when we look at the world through the view of being thankful.
Much gratitude to Net Galley and BooksGoSocial for the temporary ARC to review.
I am going to order this book to read with my students and children at home. I love the simple, but powerful message. The illustrations help make the connection for younger children. And I also needed this reminder as an adult. Love it!
