What a delight! Being a devoted fan of the "magical realism" genre, I was thrilled when I received approval for Love of My Afterlife. Kirsty Greenwood's take on a second chance at living, infused with magical and fantastical elements, was an absolute joy to devour.
Despite some icky and cringe-worthy moments in Delphie's behavior, one can't help but empathize when facing a fight for life. The unexpected brilliance of the 10/10 twist at the end added a remarkable layer to the narrative.
The delightful name drops of other romance authors and books provided a charming touch to the story. This being my inaugural experience with Kirsty Greenwood's work, it assuredly won't be the last. The novel's captivating concept and the gripping start had me hooked right from the beginning, leading me to finish it in less than a day.
Cooper's character, cherished from the outset, and the unfolding development of Delphie's character, accompanied by her fantastic inner monologue, added depth and enjoyment to the overall reading experience. Highly recommend if you're seeking a quick read that evokes a range of emotions!
easily the best book I have read this year and the quickest loved every moment thanks for the early review
This was a really sweet somewhat predictable story but good for an easy read. I was hoping to read more about her dynamic with her mum or some sort of resolution in the end but other than that, it was a fun read.
Absolutely one of the best books I've read for a long time. Funny, clever and a brilliant twist at the end which I really didn't see coming.
Kirsty Greenwood has created a very original story, which is heart warming and comical by turns. Fresh, relatable and interesting characters populate this delightful read which focuses on what's really important in life and what you stand to lose if you don't recognise it in time.
I really enjoyed the plot and the storyline in this novel . It was fun and an easy read. At some points, however, I felt like we were told too much as a reader through unesscary dialogue instead of it just being implied in subtext. Also, some of the backstory could have been fleshed out more I felt like there could have been more emphasis on Delphie's background.
I can't believe I laughed so much about death and thr afterlife!! Oh man that sentence just sounds so wrong but trust me you have to read this book to understand where I'm coming from.
The premise is just not something I've come across before, think romantic comedy with a side helping of magical realism, a supernatural dessert and it started off giving off fantasy vibes but definitely wasn't fantasy!!!
I absolutely loved all the quirky characters!! Delphine and Merriet were just hilarious in their own individual ways. Just don't ever give me a friend like Merrit she talks way too much for my introverted self haha!!
Oh gosh this story was adorable!! Highly recommend!
Thank you to Netgalley, Random House UK and Cornetstone for the opportunity to read this ARC.
I enjoyed reading this. I good giggle at times and a light hearted story, easy to read and follow. If only lives could be planned like this...
I really enjoyed this book. A great premise and really well written characters. Lovely ending too! Highly recommended.
The Love of My Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood was such an enjoyable read. I was drawn into the world straight away and related to Delphie in lots of ways.
I'm not usually one for other worldly aspects to romance novel but Evermore and Merritt felt real and just as much part of the story as London and the other side characters.
The book has lots of classic romance tropes, lots of loveable side characters and a good dose of magic.
Definitely one for those who are huge romance fans and who love TV shows like The Good Place and Schitt's Creek.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
This book is forerunner for book of the year for me. A fun, lighthearted and at times hilarious story. Excellent characters, unique concept and perfect execution.
This book was SO much fun!! I am a huge fan of the "magical realism" genre so I was super excited when I got approved for Love of My Afterlife.
There were so many times I actually cackled. I highly recommend this sweet romcom if you're looking for a quick read where you want to feel all the feelings!
This book is witty genius and I truly laughed out loud. It has ALL OF THE TROPES and is a romance reader’s dream—I absolutely loved it.
Oh my goodness I loved this book. Different to what I was expecting but so enjoyable I would highly recommend reading this it’s brilliant.
This was my first book by Kirsty Greenwood and definitely will not be the last. This was such a fun concept and the dramatic start to the novel had me hooked from the beginning. I honestly think I read this within less than a day.
I loved Cooper from the beginning and was glad he stuck around. I enjoyed reading Delphie's character development and her inner monologue was fantastic. The side characters were also great and I feel like I've met a similar person to each of them in London myself.
My only drawback is that the ending seemed quite rushed. I liked the plot twist but this felt a bit too dramatic for the plot.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for sending me an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 ⭐️
Oh my goodness I loved this book!
I really enjoy a plot where this a magical/fantasy element and this second chance at living story from Kirsty Greenwood was so fresh and funny and relatable I completely gobbled it up.
Some of Delphie's behaviour was a bit icky and cringe but if you are fighting for you life who am I to judge. Also 10/10 for the twist at the end - pure brilliance that I would not have guessed.
I also loved the name drops of other romance authors and books, it was such a cute touch.
Big thanks to RandomHouse and Netgalley for the ARC
What a great read. I loved it. There was a good little plot twist at the end which I didn’t see coming, it wasn't completely predictable but I loved it anyway as Delphie (the main character) was so relatable and so real. This was a fun read. Definitely worth reading and I will be recommending it to my fellow romance readers
This was super cute and instantly ‘unputdownable’. Gorgeous characters and very clever, with a little twist at the end. The perfect escape and a wonderful beachy holiday read for when you don’t want something you have to take seriously.
I thought this may be a little cheesy or predictable but it was neither of those things! I was invested in Delphie and her search for her happy ever after. The pace is just right and the secondary characters are all entertaining and amusing. A fresh, fun and clever book with a great twist. I look forward to reading more from this author!
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
The Love of My Afterlife is a sweet, joy-filled rom com that is immensely readable. Full of the feel-good factor, we follow Delphie as she is given respite from being dead to find her soulmate Jonah and make him kiss her within 10 days. During that 10 days, she discovers the joys of being alive and connections with people she met everyday but never took the trouble to get to know. This book is perfect if you want a light-hearted easy read that will make you smile.
Definitely outside my usual genre of books but thoroughly enjoyed this book. Full of romantic tropes. Full of twists and turns to keep the reader interested but funnily predictable as well. It’s been a long time since a laughed along with a book but this one succeeded. I will be looking out for this author releasing more titles in the future and you should too!
I’d like to thank Kirsty Greenwood, Penguin books and NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC in return for an honest review.
i have never read another book like this. it's a sci-fi (but not too much to be overbearing), a magical realism (with enough supernatural elements to give me an existential crisis at 3 am, a fantasy that's technically not a fantasy, and coming of age/death (?) with a romance sideplot.
plot: delphie is dead. after choking to death on a microwaveable burger whilst wearing her ‘shine like a star’ nightie, delphie runs into the most handsome guy she has ever met, a man she is convinced is 'the one', but when the handsome stranger is sent back down to earth, she is offered a deal to return back to earth: if in ten days he kisses her, she can stay alive,
knowing anything else would really ruin the surprise of the book.
tropes:
- fake dating
- love triangle
- found family
- one bed
- enemies to lovers
- forced proximity
thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for my honest thoughts!
