This is my first book by Kirsty Greenwood and it won't be my last. A funny, heartwarming enemies to lovers story with a brilliant cast of side characters, great chemistry, a satisfying story
Delphie finds herself in the afterlife. While waiting she meets a gorgeous stranger called Jonah. They hit it off but he is whisked back to life as it isn't his time.
Delphie's afterlife therapist believes in true love and allows her to go back for 10 days to try and find Jonah. She has to get him to kiss her or she dies all over again.
I loved this book took me a little while to warm to Delphie but liked her as the book went on.
This was an unusual story a bit fantasy a bit romance and I really enjoyed it. Found it hard to put down.
Thanks to publisher and Netgallery
Absolutely brilliant. I loved this idea and Kirsty Greenwood really delivers on it. And so very, very quickly, I was asking myself - what would I do if i could just keep swapping out my husband for a new one? It seems like a fun idea, but Greenwood spins the kaleidoscope and proves that what might seem fun can have echoing consequences - you might gain big, you might lose big with every spin of the wheel, either or both can happen in the parallel universe you create.
The ending is brilliant too - you wonder how on earth she's going to solve the problem she's decided this magic actually is, and the clever, only possible solution you'd never have dreamed of for yourself, is immensely satisfying.
The Love of My Afterlife is a fun, heartfelt rom com featuring 27-year-old recluse Delphie, who’s been given a second chance at life. I loved the concept and the magical realism genre worked fantastically. From the get go, I thoroughly enjoyed protagonist Delphie and her narrative voice. Her thorniness and bite felt justified by a developed backstory and there was satisfying character development in Delphie finding the love of her life but also realising a love for life itself. Yes, the love interest was obvious from the first introduction and perhaps I would have liked a little more mystique behind the romance plot but truthfully it did feed into the rom com trope wonderfully.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my copy of this e-arc!
The concept of this book is something I haven’t seen done before eh uh I really loved, the 1st 50% I devoured but I felt like it lost me until nearer the end because I just felt like it was quite predictable.
Although I did still enjoy the book!
Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. Admittedly, it took a bit of time to get into this book and warm to Delphie, but when I did, I was absolutely captivated. The concept was great, and I was absolutely invested in the story and Greenwood's fantastic cast of characters. It made me laugh, cry, and gasp as the twists were revealed. I would have loved a "happy ever after" epilogue though... I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.
I absolutely couldn't put this book down. It was funny, it was sad, it made me cry and I loved it. I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys adult romance.

This was such a fabulous read. I had moments when I laughed out loud and moments when I felt that lump in my throat beginning to form. From sarcastic Merrit to the quiet Mr Yoon, this book is filled with loveable and quirky characters. If you're a fan of The Dead Romantics, this is for you!
⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
To me this book had strong vibes of The Good Place - Delphie's found herself in a bit of a pickle after choking on a microwave burger and ending up in Evermore in what appears to be a launderette...
There in the holding area she meets mysterious guy and there's an instant spark of connection - he's not actually dead though and Delphie can't believe her bad luck.
Then she's given a deal of a lifetime - return to earth and find the mystery man and get him to kiss her of his own free will within 10 days - simple right??
What follows is a real journey of discovery for Delphie, facing up to and dealing with all the shit she's spent years ignoring and hiding from.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, Delphie reminds me a lot of Eleanor from TGP. The story deals with a lot of big sensitive themes in a really accessible manner - lighthearted with a bit of bite.
This book was the perfect blend of humour and sadness. I loved experiencing the characters develop and the twists that evolved with it. I devoured this book in 3 days which is very quick for me! Would recommend this as a feel good read for anyone that needs a little pick me up.
I had a lot of fun with Kirsty Greenwood’s debut novel and can see why so many people love it so much.
After choking on a microwave burger, Delphie finds herself in a laundromat style environment in the afterlife where she’s greeted by a handsome guy she is now convinced is her soulmate. The stranger is returned to earth following a glitch in the system and Delphie’s afterlife therapist gifts her the chance to return to earth and find him. The catch is she has 10 days to find him and make him fall in love with her. Oh and also he can’t remember her and she doesn’t have much info to go after.
This was daft and giddy but so much fun in places!
I tried reading this a while ago but I found it quite silly. I know some people like this genre, but it felt quite shallow and I didn't feel interested in continuing.
The writing itself was fine but the content wasn't for me.
Oh my god. This book left me completely speechless. It was incredible, touching, hilarious and emotional. What a read.
This is a bunch of fun, a knowingly tropey romance that manages to successfully hide how unpleasant our protagonist is until they start to improve and the reader has probably already committed to the book. Namechecking other romances and certainly ripping off the opening of The Good Place, The Love Of My Afterlife sells its title by kicking off with our heroine Delphie* choking on a microwaved corner shop burger. A character beat as much as anything else, being treated by her excessively perky afterlife counselor Merritt** we also get to watch her life flash before her eyes and it is not much of a life. This successfully engenders sympathy in the audience who then don't question why Delphie has no friends and is snippy and mean to everyone. Anyway whilst being counseled she comes across another recent deader Jonah, falls in love at first sight, and is then frustrated to see that he's a clerical error and get sent back to Earth (or at least Kensington which isn't really the same). Merritt's love of romance novels get her to bend the rules, she sends her back to see if she can find this mystery man, and get a kiss from him in ten days.
Considering they end up living about a mile apart, this really shouldn't be too hard, but she, of course, gets involved with her horrible downstairs neighbour and before you can say enemies to lovers, can't love due to grief, missing car keys and share a tiny bed, they fall for each other. It knows it is very silly, it openly accepts its use of all the cliches (and makes a virtue of it), and force-feeds its "live your life to the full" moral with the force of a Shinkansen, but it is quite a lot of fun. Even if it is set in West London.

The Love of My Afterlife is a charming and whimsical read that blends magical realism with romance and humor. The story follows Delphie, a solitary woman who finds herself back in the world of the living with just ten days to find her soulmate and secure her place in life. If she fails, it’s back to the afterlife for her.
Delphie’s journey is both heartwarming and entertaining. Her initial isolation is challenged as she interacts with a quirky cast of characters, including her neighbor Mr. Yoon, a library worker, and a grumpy but attractive downstairs neighbor. These relationships bring depth to Delphie’s character and add layers of emotional complexity to her quest.
The novel excels in its portrayal of human connection and personal growth. Delphie’s transformation from a lonely recluse to someone surrounded by meaningful relationships is engaging and relatable. The book offers a fresh take on familiar romance tropes, with a mix of humor, tension, and heartfelt moments. The slow-burn romance, combined with the urgency of Delphie’s ten-day deadline, keeps the story dynamic and suspenseful. Although the plot is somewhat predictable, the execution is filled with delightful surprises and emotional highs.
The Love of My Afterlife is a delightful, feel-good read perfect for fans of magical realism and romance. It’s a story about second chances, the importance of human connections, and the transformative power of love.
If you like romance book you will enjoy this. Delphie has just died and she goes to the afterlife and meets Merritt. Merritt is Delphies after life therapist during this meeting she meet Jonah who is a computer error. The book is funny and heartwarming. During reading it I had no idea where it was going to end. Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review .
This book is an ABSOLUTE DELIGHT from start to finish!

Touching.

Thank you to @Netgalley, the author @kirsty_greenwood and Random House UK, Cornerstone for the e-copy of ‘The Love of My Afterlife’ in exchange for my opinions.
From the opening chapter I loved this one and despite it being very much in the realms of magic realism (not my usual genre) I really loved the character of Delphie and how I was sucked into her drama instantly.
Right at the beginning Delphie, wearing the world’s most embarrassing pyjamas, chokes to death on a bland microwavable burger and right before it she has searched whether or not the burger actually has a meat content. She arrives in Evermore (the afterlife) and meets a handsome man she is immediately attracted to. As they connect and realise they are meant for each other, someone comes barging in and says that a mistake has been made and Jonah has to return to earth.
So, Delphie has a deal handed to her - find the man who has returned to earth and make him fall in love with her…. All in ten days. Or (and it’s a very big or) she is really dead.
I have not read anything by this author before so downloading her past books is on my list of things to do. It was a beautifully magical book with twists I did not see coming. Yes, it is fantasy but the romance in it was just lovely and not in a predictable way either… If you want Beauty and the Beast/ Cinderella vibes within a book you can just devour, then this is for you!

How have I not read any of Kirsty Greenwood's books before?
The love of my afterlife is the heartfelt tale of Delphie Denise Bookham, who dies before ever really having learnt to live, wakes up in a laundrette, and meets the love of her life. Unfortunately, he's only under heavy sedation and not quite ready for the land of the dead just yet.
Cue a hilarious quest to find said man in 10 days in order to stay with the living and regain mortality
The writing is clever and funny and, at times, heartbreaking. As a reader, I really felt for Delphie and loved her journey to self-discovery throughout this book.
I'll definitely be looking into other works by this author.

There's not much else to say other than... what a gem of a book!
It felt like this would be a predictable but great read, but it ended up being a fantastic and totally unpredictable read. The story did not go where I thought it would and the jaw drop moment near the end had me wondering if I was going to get any kind of positive ending or not. This is the perfect romance for when you need a bit of a mix up on the plot and something different to the rest of all of the books in the market.
