This book was amazing it had everything romances, comedy and of course sadness.
Delphie ends up in the afterlife where she meets Merritt who is there to help people move on. She meets Jonah who she feels as though there is a connection. Delphie has an opportunity to go back to living again if she finds her soulmate. Cooper is Delphie’s neighbour and they do not get on. We see throughout the book what Delphie gets up to and how she reacts to people.
It is a book of getting a chance again and finding out about how life pans out
I could not put the book down and wanted to know how it would end. I kind of guessed what would happen.
This book was hilarious, heartwarming, unique and full of many of my favourite tropes!
Delphie's life is going nowhere....literally. After she dies in a rather unexciting way, she ends up under the care of a quirky afterlife therapist, who gives her one chance to live again. She must find the soulmate she accidentally met in heaven, but she only has ten days to do so...
There were many interesting characters, from grumpy and mysterious neighbour, Cooper, to the collection of oddballs she meets in searching for the one man who can keep her on earth. However, just because she's desperate to find him, doesn't mean he wants to be found.
With the clock ticking down, Delphie must try anything to find him.
This has it all with many little twists and turns and equal shares of laughter and emotion. My only wish was for more, more, more at the end of the book!
If Adam Silvera & Sara Nisha Adams had a bookish love child, this would be it. It's got the sci-fi and magic realism of They Both Die at the End, and the found family, community coming together and importance of connections that The Reading List brings us. And this is exactly what drew me to this book, it's not often I read Romance, but as a fan of contemporary fiction and the paranormal element I was hooked. It's got all the tropes you could wish for, rivals to lovers, forced proximity and the dreaded one bed, there's somewhat of a love triangle. It terms of spice it's very mild bordering Lemon & Lime, which honestly felt perfect for Delphies character.
Speaking of which, I really loved the character development throughout this book, Delphie especially, she's witty, funny and sassy for someone who has spent her adult life as a social recluse. I especially loved her relationship with Mr. Yoon.
I really felt like all the characters in this book brought depth, and no one felt like a 'filler' character. Well ok, except maybe Eric he felt like a bit of an afterthought to wrap up Merritt's story.
Overall I surprised myself with how much I actually loved this book and how quickly I read it.
Thank you to @randomthingstours for my copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I don’t know where to start with this - I loved it. I loved the humour, the sarcasm, the sadness, the romance, and all the characters. I don’t think I’ve read a book before without a bad guy, each character just gets better and adds more to the storyline. Even the two ladies Delphie works with in the pharmacy start off a bit grumpy and gruff towards her but soon show their true selves.
Cooper is the typical misery next door, Mr Yoon is just adorable, and Jonah sounds too good to be true. Delphie pursues him all over London and starts to think her days are numbered, which they are thanks to Merritt. This is where it all starts getting fun, hilarious and super exciting.
I really loved this story, reading over 75% in one day rooting for Delphie all the way through, but also wanting to know more about Eternity 4U 🤣 I think this is one I’d read again - even though I know the ending, it was such a great read I reckon you’ll get more out of it every time you read it.
I absolutely loved 'The Love of My Afterlife' and the joyful way that it was written.
27 year old Delphie lives the quietest most unobtrusive life possible; she works in the pharmacy across the road, but that's about the height of her social interaction other than sniping at her neighbour, handsome but rude Cooper and 88 year old Mr Yoon. She has totally locked herself down; she used to love art but abandoned it after the school bullies put her off and she's never had a relationship.
One evening Delphie chokes to death on a microwave burger and finds herself in the Afterlife, where her mentor Merritt is so excited to meet her. She's not alone in the Afterlife though, there's also devastatingly handsome Jonah who is looking at her in an exceptionally friendly way - sparks are flying. Before Jonah and Delphie can get any more acquainted, he is whisked back to the living world. Merritt gives Delphie ten days on earth to find him and make him kiss her, otherwise she's straight back to the Afterlife for eternity.
This deadline means she has no choice but to move right out of her comfort zone and trawl London looking for Jonah. Her search means that she has to engage with more people and to Delphie's surprise, they're not all as awful as she feared. Special shout out for Aled the awesome librarian who cannot help but gush about all of the books he's loved and how great libraries are! She also has to speak to her obnoxious neighbour Cooper; he's an IT whizz and Delphie's hoping he can help.
The story takes them Delphie across London, experiencing adventures she's never had before, making unexpected friends who all seem to like her despite her huge lack of self-confidence, and there may be a kiss or two....
This was exactly what I wanted to read- funny, uplifting, modern, romantic, joyful and charming. I loved the nods to other romance writers - plenty more for me to read! Kirsty Greenwood writes with such a light touch but the story has plenty of hidden depths. Well worth a read
What a fun, heart-warming read that made grin, chuckle and sob! The version of the waiting room of the afterlife with an exuberant Merrit showcased the imagination of the story while the dynamics between the other characters gave it its emotional heart.
I was gripped and eager for the mission to find Jonah, a soul mate to be a success. It's more than a love story, it's one of friendship, healing and self discovery.
4⭐️- this was such a cute and heartwarming read! The FMC didn’t take herself too seriously and I really appreciated how well the author dealt with the more sensitive subjects in a way that didn’t take from the sunshine feel of the book.
The Love of My Afterlife follows Delphie, who has woken up to find out she’s on the other side and has died. Whilst trying to figure out if this is just a horrendous dream, she bumps into the most gorgeous man she’s ever seen and there’s an instant connection. Only he’s there by mistake and immediately returns to Earth. So she makes a deal - if she can leave the afterlife, find this guy who is her potential soulmate, she’ll win another chance at life. Sounds simple right? Unfortunately not for Delphie!
The magical realism plot of this book was unique and had me laughing out loud throughout. This has the feels of a romcom movie and one you won’t regret picking up.
Oooh I really loved this book!!! I was a little unsure about whether it was just going to be another romance story but it was so much more than that. The story takes you on a journey of searching for Delphie's soul mate. Even though its a romance novel there are a few twists and turns that I did not see (but one I could see a mile off coming).
This book was so enjoyable, it was funny, quirky and I could picture everything that was going off. I read it in a few days (which is great for me) and thats when I know Im reading a good book.
Thanks to netgalley for an unbiased review for a free copy of the book.
This book has it all, not only is it sad, romantic but it is also laugh out loud funny. It was such a fun time to read and might just be one of my favourite books of the year.
Can't wait to read more from Kirsty Greenwood
Funny, sad, heartbreaking and heart warming and full of fun unexpected twists. This was such an enjoyable read. Delphie was exactly the kind of main character that you root for. She started off from a place of loneliness and closing herself off for completely relatable reasons due to some really disappointing people in her life letting her down horribly. However, as a result of the random mission set by Merritt (🤦🏽♀️) and ticking clock to complete it she started: really living; opening herself up again; making connections with old and new faces that she previously would have shied away from; embracing her fun side; and taking up her art again.
I loved her attempts at tracking Jonah and the resulting hijinks assisted by her new friends and Cooper the neighbour. Her chemistry with Cooper sizzled and each of their interactions just left me with a silly grin on my face. I really loved seeing that connection build between them and how they gradually opened up to one another about the losses and experiences that had shaped them. So many romance tropes that I loved in this!
A great group of supporting characters made this story really work and it was so satisfying to see Delphie find her people. Special mention to Mr Yoon. Delphie’s relationship with him is what made me love her character the most because it showed how much love and kindness she had in her and you just wanted her to get that back tenfold. The ending was perfect. Loved it 5 stars🌟
A lovely romcom that I highly recommend to those that enjoy a feel-good story with a beautiful ending! The perfect chick lit!
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House UK, Cornerstone and the author.
Delphie is a bit of a loner.
Delphie has just choked on a microwaveable burger.
When she wakes up she finds herself in a laundrette and being introduced to her heavenly advisor Merritt. She also finds herself in the company of the best looking men she has ever encountered. They both feel a spark. His name is Jonah. Jonah is Delphie's soulmate, at least that is what Merritt is telling her but he has vanished. His time isn't up yet. Delphie is so upset because she hasn't really lived and now she's found her soulmate and he's gone. She strikes a deal with Merritt; return to the living for ten days and in those ten days she must find Jonah and get him to kiss her. No problem right? Except Jonah will have no idea who Delphie is anymore and no recollection of their meeting. But he's her soulmate so how hard could it be?! She enlists the help of her tech savvy brooding neighbour RL Cooper to help her out which he's perfectly happy to do for a price!
I LOVED this book. It was such a fun read and I adored RL Cooper. Delphie inner dialogue was just hilarious and I felt every awkward moment she got herself into. The romance was perfectly executed and I was all in as soon as I started reading. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for this authors future work.
This book is definitely going to be in my top books of 2024. It's a rom com like you have never experienced because it is so outrageously different but very enjoyable. I loved the magical realm/fantasy inclusion. Delphie has just died unexpectedly and she meets her soulmate. To stay on earth she has to track him down and get him to kiss her but the catch is that he has no recollection of ever having met her before. I gobbled this story up quickly and I would love for it to be turned into a series as some of the characters became quite endearing to me. I had guessed the twist before it was revealed but I was full of excitement waiting for it to be revealed to the characters. The perfect escapism novel!
When introverted singleton Delphie chokes on a microwave burger, whilst binge watching TV and wearing a rather dodgy slogan nightie, she finds herself at the office of the afterlife. Realising that her life hasn't amounted to much, and that she has died in embarrassing circumstances, she bargains with the receptionist and she is given a challenge to complete back on earth in 10 days, with the prize being her life.....
The storyline sounds a bit bizarre but I actually really enjoyed this book! Humour, romance and a lot of soul-searching, with a twist at the end
Delphie suddenly finds herself in the afterlife after choking on a microwave beef burger. She is given a second chance of life, however there are conditions otherwise she will die again in ten days unless she not only finds but kisses a stranger that she met briefly in the afterlife and only knows his first name and that he lives in London.....
This is definitely something different, Delphie is very introverted, grumpy and has no friends apart from her neighbour, Mr Yoon and an "enemy" in her neighbour downstairs, Cooper, however she ends up asking him for help in her search. Some of the story develops in the way you expect, however there were some real surprises in there. It does make you think that many people only survive, rather than live, and how lucky you may be. Definitely worth a read.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
Laugh out loud hilarious and at the same time an uplifting tale that restores your faith in humankind! A very different romance.
Delfie seems to have died under the most embarrassing and odd circumstances and finds herself in a super surreal place where nothing makes sense. When she comes face to face with a beautiful man who takes notice of her, for the first time in her life, she is stirred by feelings never before encountered. Back to earth with a bump and she now has a mission!!
Absolutely loved this story, loved all the eccentric and unconventional characters they were brilliant!!
Loved Delphie’s journey!
All in all a fabulous read! Much enjoyed! Totally recommended!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin books for the early read!
This book was so fun and I had a great time reading it. I never really knew where the plot was going, which just added to the fun but the plot twists at the end were the icing on the cake - I couldn't put it down it was so good
I really enjoyed the slightly chaotic adventure that we go on with Delphie, and although it looks like things are going wrong and luck isn't on her side, it brings so many people into her life and makes her start really loving and enjoying it again
I loved the whole cast of characters, they were all so fun and different and brought such realness and a great time to the story
I love the references to different popular romance authors and tropes throughout the book - it was like a fun little bingo game
This was the first book I've read by this author and I'll definitely be checking out more of them
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Cornerstone for the ARC - all opinions are my own
Oh I loved this! Great premise, fantastic humour, brilliant characters, and a warm heart. Kirsty Greenwood's best yet, and a truly uplifting read.
This is such a cute and funny read. I had a smile on my face throughout. I just love Delphie, Cooper and Merritt.
I’d love to see this adapted into a film. I’d love for there to be a follow up too.
A very enjoyable book. For someone who doesn't like romcoms I enjoyed it. It's silly but clever at the same time. Delphie dies and while waiting to be processed in the afterlife meets another dead person. They talk and fall in love but Jonah has been taken to the afterlife by mistake so is given his life back. Delphie is offered 10 days more life to find him and make him kiss her so she can remain alive. He won't remember her and all she knows is his surname begins with T. Delphie is an angry, antisocial character who finds herself and love in the process.
One of the twists is obvious but others are a surprise. Kirsty keeps the reader hanging on almost to the last page.
It's the first book I have read by Kirsty and will certainly read more.
