I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to read "The Love of My Afterlife" by Kirsty Greenwood. From start to finish, I was completely enthralled by this delightful rom-com that had me laughing, crying, and rooting for the characters until the very end.
Delphie, the protagonist, is a lovable and relatable character who has been through a lot in her life. I loved watching her grow and develop throughout the story, particularly as she began to open up and let people in. Her chemistry with Cooper was off the charts, and I was so invested in their story.
Kirsty Greenwood's writing is witty and engaging, and she has a knack for creating quirky and lovable characters. Merritt, Delphie's Afterlife therapist, was a particular standout for me - her romance novel references and innovative ways of keeping in touch with Delphie were hilarious. I also adored Delphie's friendship with Mr Yoon, and Cooper's sarcastic remarks had me giggling.
The story is full of heartwarming moments, but it also tackles some heavier themes like loneliness, loss, and isolation. The author handles these themes with sensitivity and compassion, making it easy to become invested in the characters' lives.
I loved the twists and turns throughout the story, and even though I guessed a few of them, it only made me more excited to see how everything worked out. The ending left me feeling happy and hopeful, and I couldn't ask for more from a romance novel.
Overall, "The Love of My Afterlife" is a delightful rom-com that will leave you grinning from ear to ear. It's a breath of fresh air, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a light-hearted and entertaining read.

I am obsessed with this story!! The characters, have the funniest moments and wise words that you will warm to all of them!!
It seemed a typical romance story, but boy is it not!! Delphie dies, meets her Afterlife representative and after meeting her”soulmate”, she’s sent back to Earth with a timeline and a pact that if she doesn’t get a kiss from him she returns to be a guinea pig for a new afterlife dating service!
It’s hilarious reading about her escapades, seeing as she totally hated interacting with anyone!! This definitely pushed her boundaries! Then we have the sneering and sarcastic Cooper, his participation in this is also comedy gold in places!! You’ll love it as much as me!!
Many thanks to Random House Uk, for the opportunity to read this arc copy for review consideration via Netgalley. My opinion is my own.

Honestly such an adorable and fun read.

Exploring themes of found family, loneliness, and every romantic trope you can think of. This book manages to tackle the hard topics and then cuddle you with a shower of romance in a perfect balance.

The FMC was relatable and honestly a joy to follow through the story. Every character felt necessary and integral to the plot and I loved every single one of them.

100% recommend this book. I’ll definitely be reading more Kirsty Greenwood in the near future.

The premise of this book is a great one, it was such an interesting concept and I think the author delivered on it really well.

The magical realism of this book was wonderful and heart warming making this such a cosy read,

I liked most of the characters although I found Merritt just a. bit annoying - she's a very over the top character which got on my nerves a bit. I liked the interactions between our characters and seeing the dynamics play out.

This book is well written, it's really accessible and such an easy read. The writing just flows and it compelled me to keep reading.

It's a sweet, gorgeous read and I really enjoyed my time with this. book

This is such a fun book and unique idea. I really enjoyed reading it as did my teenage daughter. I'd love to see this recreated on screen I think it could be a fantastic adaptation.

What a way to go—choking on a microwaveable burger! But that's it, Delphie Bookham's life is over!

Or is it?

Delphi wakes up in a jazzy launderette, rather perplexed as to how exactly she ended up there. It turns out that this is Evermore, or the Afterlife.
This is where she meets Jonah, a gorgeous stranger. Sparks are F-L-Y-I-N-G, and it seems that the feeling is mutual.
Given Delphi's lonely and solitary life when she was alive, death is looking a lot more peachy.

But Jonah was only an unconscious visitor, a glitch in the system wrongly sent him to Evermore. He doesn't belong here and is swiftly transported back to his life on earth.

Merritt, Delphie's Afterlife Therapist (lover of curry and romance novels), offers a way Delphie could be given a second chance at life.
Merritt believes that Jonah is Delphie's soulmate, so she must track him down and reignite their brief dalliance. With a happy ever after ending she'll be re-instated in her life. Problem!
Delphie knows him simply as Jonah.T. Oh, and he won't have any memory of their encounter. He also needs to kiss her. And did I mention that she only has ten days to fulfil her mission? If she fails, she'll have to return to Evermore and assist Merritt with her Eternity 4U Afterlife dating service.

What a journey Delphie embarks on, with the help of her grumpy neighbour Cooper, a reunion with old "friends", a whole host of new friends found along the way, as well as the wonderful Mr Yoon. Delphie lives more in those ten days than she has ever before, and she wants her life back....if only she can find Jonah to save it!

This was such a fun read, with many touching moments and surprises along the way.

I don’t read many romcoms but I am so pleased I chose this one; it’s clever, funny, but more than anything has characters you find yourself really caring for. Sometimes despite yourself.

Delphie lives – and dies – in a flat in West London. Choking on a microwave burger no less. But when a mix up in Evermore means she briefly meets Jonah, her soulmate, before he’s sent back to earth she makes a deal with her romance-novel crazy Afterlife Therapist Merritt to go back herself to find him. She has just ten days for him to kiss her or she’ll die all over again. This time permanently.

Having been bullied at school Delphie holds herself apart from everyone; her neighbours in the apartment block and colleagues at work. But if she’s to find the elusive Jonah she’s going to need their help – and the help of strangers – to do so. There’s a certain inevitability about what happens… but then again, there isn’t. The level of joy from reading this book is definitely worth the measure of predictability, and anyway, isn’t that what romance tropes are all about?

the love of my afterlife by kirsty greenwood

what would you do if you had 10 days to save your own life??

this book was such a warm and light read - despite it being literally a life or death plot🤭

* found family
* love triangle
* enemies to lovers
* only one bed
* forced proximity

i loved delphie as a character, she was so lovely with a big heart - which she kept that hidden due to past experiences, making her shut off to other people and ultimately afraid to connect with anyone☹️

as we worked through the book she slowly let those barriers down and fears slip away as she grew the community around her, so heartwarming and beautiful to read🥹

a happy ending was 100% deserved♥️

cooper was so sweet and understanding with delphie, always willing to help her out - as any good neighbour would, right?👀

their chemistry was there from the get go, with their sarcastic banter bouncing off each other which had me grinning and laughing - and the situations they got themselves into, you just couldn’t write it…well kirsty could😂😍

the ending surprised me, like i knew (well hoped) it would!! i couldn’t help but feel the emotions through the pages😭😍

so will i be eating a microwave burger anytime soon? nope, i don’t think so🍔

this was my first of kirsty greenwood but i can’t see it being my last read of hers!!💫

release date: june 20th - save the date☁️

thankyou to netgalley and random house, cornerstone for the advanced copy of the love of my afterlife!!

'The Love of My Afterlife' has comfort written all over it. From the get go, I was so drawn into the writing and the story line. For someone who finds it quite difficult to read these days, to finish this book after 4 days is a huge statement. The characters are likable and not too over the top cheery. I liked how it was just a generally laid back and comforting kind of read despite the life-or-death plot line. This book will make you swoon, laugh and warm your heart at the character growth. And the ending! Let's just say, I loved how even though I thought I knew what was going happen, it surprised me!

Overall, what a great rom-com kind of book. 'The Love of My Afterlife' is such a warm and easy read. I genuinely loved it.

This is the first book I’ve read by Kirsty Greenwood and it won’t be the last.

I really enjoyed this story, I loved Delphie and Cooper’s characters
It was a sweet story with a little bit of paranormal and romance

I’ve had this book on my kindle for ages and I’m so glad I finally got around to reading it! It was great!!

When I started this book I thought this was going to be one of those really deep/philosophical ones that really make you think about life and while it did do that to an extent , it definitely felt more like a romcom, which I loved! There was a great balance between funny moments, romance and those moments that make you stop and think about what you just read.

I loved Delphie so much! I saw a lot of myself in her, so this book inevitably made me reflect quite a lot. She was just such a lovely character but her experience growing up left her pretty closed off and almost afraid of connecting with the people around her. Seeing her slowly open up and build a community around her was so beautiful and heartwarming and the reason why I love found family. She 100% deserved the happy ending she got and I just wish the book was a bit longer so we could see her be happy and enjoy her life with all those new people in it.

On to the romance. It wasn’t what I expected from the description but you know what? It was even better! I loved them together so so much🥹 he was such a sweetheart and also deserved to find happiness after everything he went through.

Overall, one of the best books I’ve read lately. It’s fresh, it’s funny, it’s swoony and such a great read. I couldn’t recommend it more!

A huge thank you to Cornerstone and Netgalley for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Ahhh just the tonic I needed after a very dark and gritty previous read. This is thoroughly cheesy at times but with a sizeable dash of clever premise and a dollop of sliding doors mentality together with a side dish of romance.
I loved the whole afterlife concept with the tongue in cheek launderette waiting room and larger than life staffing. The seemingly impossible task of tracking down a handsome stranger in a big city and with a time limit that is life and death was definitely compelling too.
The cast of characters are brilliant, entertaining and heartwarming and there are plenty of warm fuzzy moments. A lovely diversion of a read and quite removed from my usual genres but I was drawn to this by fate and its curb appeal. Recommend.

The Love of My Afterlife is so much fun from start to finish, thanks to its loveable characters and unusual premise that deserves to be made into a romcom film. I genuinely didn’t want to put it down, and read it in two sittings, which is quite rare for me these days!

I absolutely loved Delphie and Cooper, and the strange situations they found themselves in. I also really appreciated that they both had realistic traumas they were continuously living with and recovering from, and that they found comfort in each other’s lives. Their chemistry was off the charts from the beginning, and I was so invested in their story.

Kirsty Greenwood’s books are always funny, and this one is no exception. I found myself laughing out loud several times, and smiling myself silly on more than one occasion. Any book that elicits that response from me is an instant winner, and I can’t recommend The Love of My Afterlife enough. It’s such a breath of fresh air, and I think even readers who aren’t big fans of the romance/romcom genre will find something to enjoy.

I suggest going into The Love of My Afterlife knowing as little as possible, and being pleasantly surprised along the way. It’s an addictive ray of sunshine of a book, and I don’t have a single bad thing to say about it. It’ll leave you grinning from ear to ear, happy you read it and wondering what comes next for lovely Delphie. Maybe one day we’ll find out!

I loved the storyline of this one and the main characters were so easy to fall in love with.

Delphie is such a wonderful character and there was so many laugh out loud moments for me throughout this book. The magical realism element added an extra special layer to this book and I enjoyed her attempts to get the kiss she needs. I adored her care for Mr Yoon, it was such a perfect part of the story and before you know it this book wraps you up in the blanket of community and a sense of belonging.

The romance was good and I loved the development of the attraction between the two main characters. I was rooting for them from the beginning and I just thought this was a lovely read. It is a wonderful book which captured my heart.

I loved the concept of this story and I thought the writing was fantastic!
I get why this author is popular.

Sadly this story didn’t do it for me. The main character I felt very irritating and annoying! And the ending fell flat for me also.

If you are a romance girly then this story will be for you and I bet you will love it!!

I would read another book by this author because I love giving second chances.

Thank you to Netgalley for my arc copy!
Book is out 20th of June.

REVIEW
cw: bullying, mentions of divorce and parental abandonment, bereavement, death, isolation
When twenty-seven-year-old loner Delphie Bookham suddenly finds herself in The Afterlife, she meets the most handsome man she's ever seen. And he actually seems interested in her. But before they can get properly acquainted, he's returned to life. Merritt, her romance-obsessed Afterlife Therapist gives Delphie the opportunity to find him. If she can get him to kiss her freely, she too can live. The catch? She only knows him as Jonah T. The catch? She only has ten days to find her soulmate.

Kirsty Greenwood is one of my favourite storytellers for a reason, and she has excelled once again. What an absolutely gorgeous delight of a book. It made me laugh and cry so many times. Delphie was such a complex character, and I loved her development. I won't spoil the plot, but she was so relatable and my heart broke for her as we began to learn more about her life growing up, as well as her self-imposed isolation. I loved how she began to flourish as the story progressed, particularly through the encounters she made along the way. I cried laughing at Delphie's poetry recital, and her 'caramel slice'. Her soul mate story made me swoon so many times and I loved her emotional openness at the end.
But this book was more than just a romance. The themes of loneliness, loss, and isolation were explored sensitively through so many of the characters. As always, the author created the most amazing, quirky supporting characters. Merritt, Delphie's Afterlife therapist, was hilarious. I loved all of her romance novel references, and I think I spotted an Easter egg that made me squeal. I also loved all of her innovative ways of keeping in touch with Delphie. I adored Delphie's friendship with Mr Yoon. It was so heartwarming but often amusing. He was such a sweetheart. And his party? That wrecked me in the best possible way. Aled, the enthusiastic librarian was a whole mood, and I adored how he helped Mr Yoon. I adored Cooper, Delphie's grumpy downstairs neighbour. His sarcastic reposts made me giggle and I loved their friendship as they began to learn more about each other. Their 'heist' was a particular high point, and I cackled laughing at Special Agent Balthazar. I LOVED how that chapter ended. Jonah was a sweetheart and an all-round good guy. Their encounters were both hilarious and poignant. I also loved Frida, who was such a fun character, and I loved the development of Delphie's friendship with her colleagues.
Even though I guessed a few of the twists, that only made me more excited to see how everything worked out and made me root for all of the characters even more. This story was a reminder that everyone around us has a story of their own, and if we shut ourselves off, we miss so much (and there I go, crying again!)
A great big, positive hug of a book.

Overall Rating: ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Heat Rating: 🔥🔥

4.5 stars. This book was uplifting and funny and eccentric...and I loved it. This is my kind of magic realism - the fantastical clashing right into the normal, with a wry chuckle. Having your main character die from eating a microwave burger at the beginning of the story gives you a glimpse into what you're going to get. Delphie is lonely without really realising/accepting it, she lives a solitary life and avoids interacting with people. She has her reasons for this and they're understandable. Then she eats the fated burger and meets her afterlife therapist who she makes a deal with that changes everything.
This really reminded me of The Good Place, in the way it depicted the afterlife - showing the admin of it, if you will. I felt that the writing conjured up that same saturated landscape too, everything was bright primary colours with just a hint of kitsch. It was bonkers and brilliant.
The 'rom' part of this romcom was utterly endearing, I don't want to say too much about it as I don't want to give any spoilers, but you will be rooting for a happy ending.
As the book progresses, Delphie picks up a ragtag bunch of new friends who are all just a little left of centre for varying reasons. They're just brilliant though, and made me laugh out loud on many occasions. She makes genuine connections as she's on her quest and they stud the book with heartfelt situations that are a great complement to the amazing humour.

DNF. If my entrance person into heaven talked as much as this one, I'd want to die all over again just to get away from her. The concept is interesting, but the execution is meh. It's like the women's fiction authors have discovered the 'what is life in heaven like' trope and decided to write a bunch of books about it because I definitely feel like I've read something eerily similar to this before.
