A cute manga about a single mother named Megumi who reminisces on memories of her days as an otaku kid in 1995. Otaku in current times are widely more accepted than they were in the 90's. After moving to a new school to escape bullying, Megumi tries to fit in at her new school without blowing her cover. Masamune, the class president and basketball star, looks exactly like one of her favorite characters and is very kind to her. The only catch is that he hates otaku.
This manga is silly and full of 90's manga/anime nostalgia, which I find endearing.
It’s surprisingly difficult to review My Lovesick Life as a '90s Otaku, I excepted a relatively straight forward story but there is more to this then expected. The first half of the book didn’t really convince me, partly because I didn’t take to Megumi. However, as the book continues you get to know more about the other characters and how “otaku” relates to them. I actually think there is a lot of potential here for the next volume so I hope I can review that also.
This was so much fun to dive into!
Megger's personality and anxieties felt so relatable at times, especially as someone who also *mostly* hid their love for anime/manga back in school~ But like the manga points out, it's definitely been jarring to see how widely accepted it is to be an Otaku these days (in a good way)!
The 90s were a little before my time, but I still enjoyed seeing all the little references to older series like Slam Dunk. It was also fun to see the timeline switch back and forth between Megger's 2021 and 90's self, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the author will tie it all together in the rest of the series!
The final reveal regarding Masamune's family life left me with a lot of questions, so I'm desperately hoping to read volume 2 soon~
Would highly recommend this series for any anime lovers looking for a trip down memory lane!

Wow, the nostalgia!
This romance story is so unique and interesting.
This manga follows our main character as an adult and teen experiencing life as an Otaku and showing how much society has changed in regards to their feelings about Otakus. I was really enjoying it. It took me a little bit to get into at first because of the art style, but after awhile I got used to it.
This was really enjoyable. The scene where they are doing purikura is laugh out loud funny. I think anyone who enjoys anime will relate to "meggers" character. I particularly like that it jumps in time between 2021(?) and the 90's. For any of us who were 90's kids certain anime names will ring a bell and the use of pagers as well! This manga had a huge list of information added at the end explaining some words or characters or references to popular Japanese magazines etc. I found that really helpful and it gave me some new things to look up as I don't know a ton about Japan in the 90's. Overall this was great and I would recommend it to any anime fan.
