The premise of She's My Knight is simple and it works really well for a comedy/slice of life manga. I'm not sure how sustainable the premise is, but in volume 1 alone, we get rivals and a secondary couple set up, so it shows promise. Gender fluidity and puberty are also two elements at play that I'm sure will be a recurring theme in future volumes. I look forward to reading volume 2.

A handsome boy who can't admit he's in love and a princely girl who's oblivious equals a match made in heaven! A fun and funny manga that made me chuckle.

My only issue was that sometimes the screen tone seems to be applied in places it shouldn't be making things look a little messy at times. But it's something that can easily be overlooked.

This was such a joyful read and I can wait to check out the next volume. While the manga reads pretty episodic, I enjoyed the flow and organization of the stories. The side characters are also such a joy to read.

I loved the idea and I thought it had great potential but sadly the way the story is told isn't for me. The characters and the dynamics between them are really fun and cute - I love seeing the girl being the "prince charming" for once. However, we get a ton of short little bonus stories that overwhelm the actual chapters. It was alright at first but quickly got annoying. The manga also didn't really make me care for the side characters enough to try to drive the side couple at the end. And the guy flirting with Mogami just to turn out to be their substitute teacher later was questionable.

All in all, I love the premise, and the main couple is really cute but the pacing took me out of the story, and the side characters were at best forgettable and at worst downright problematic. I'd still read another volume if I had nothing else to read but sadly it's not my favorite manga.

This was a very adorable manga. It’s a bit of a gender-flip on the usual story. Here, we have our main character as a school-aged boy that takes on the more cutesy, has a crush kind of role. The main female character is a girl at his school that is super cool and charming and everyone loves her but she’s a bit of a tomboy. The main character is super adorable, blushes a lot, and struggles so much to be able to admit his feelings and try to ask out his crush. The female character is equally adorable, cause she is super cool, nice, a bit naive, but also a bit blushy at times. I would definitely want to continue the series and see where things go. I’m also very curious about the side couple that I think is developing. They are also pretty cute.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers, and the author for the ARC I read.

A fun comic that plays with the manga tropes. Ichinose is the hero of his own story, admired by himself as much as the others. Then Mogami starts in his school. She’s inches taller than him, kind, sunshiny and charming, and she’s always saving him even though he doesn’t need it. Could it be that she’s actually the hero and he’s the heroine?

The fairly short chapters follow Ichinose’s infatuation with Mogami that doesn’t go anywhere because it wouldn’t be cool for him to confess first, and he becomes awkward whenever he’s around her. Moreover, she seems completely oblivious to his feelings. The first volume ends just as he works up the courage to tell her.

These were fun stories that deliberately repeat manga tropes, commenting on them. I laughed aloud several times. The subversiness wasn’t always very respectful, but it managed not to be embarrassing. Illustrations were good, not filled with all the manga clichés, and the girls were drawn with respect.

She's My Knight is a cute high school romance manga that switches up the traditional roles of shoujo couples. Instead of the short, blushing girl and the tall, charming boy, Mogami Yuki and Ichinose Haruma are the exact opposite. She's tall, handsome, effortlessly charming and popular with all the girls, and while he's also handsome and popular, when he's around Yuki he turns into a flustered, blushing mess.

Simple and lighthearted with adorable art, this manga was fun to read. I found myself smiling every time Haruma and Yuki re-enacted shoujo tropes, like watching a scary movie or pushing the other to the ground to avoid being hit by a ball. It was cute to see Haruma struggle with his words around Yuki and to imagine himself taller than her in his daydreams. There's not a lot of plot beyond the romance and the tropes, but I enjoyed reading about their awkward interactions and "not-a-date" dates.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for the free copy in return for my honest review.

She’s My Knight 1 was very cute and funny. Although the two main characters switching roles is a little weird. It is lacking a plot. The artwork is very nice though. I love the characters’ big expressive eyes. I hope the main characters get together. It would truly be a great love story

I liked the this first volume of "She's My Knight" by Saisou! The humor in this manga had me laughing from start to finish. Haruma and Yuki's interactions are hilarious and I loved the incorporation of "flipped" shoujo tropes into each chapter. The side characters were also funny in their contributions to the story. I recommend this manga to anyone who wants to try a romance with the girl always making the guy's heart race rather than vice versa.

tl;dr
Light reading packed with gags for fans of shoujo manga.

Thoughts
Are YOU tired of high drama and convoluted plots? Want a read that's quick, light, and doesn't make you work for it? You've come to the right place! The series hangs on a single conceit - shoujo tropes but flip the genders. Chapters are quick with fast punchlines, with very little overarching plot to tie them together, so it's an easy read for anyone looking for some fun with no strings attached. The characters are all fairly goofy too, with a somewhat fourth wall-breaking knowledge of the tropes they are subverting, and my favorite parts were actually side characters' observations. Art is pretty and straightforward, with some fun comedic expressions.

A lot of fun! This manga pokes (gentle) fun at many common shojo manga tropes but is respectful while doing so. Clean art and a nicely paced story.

a good satire of shoujo tropes with a fast-paced structure, cute illustrations, and well-executed comedy. there were some moments where mogami and ichinose read like bootleg versions of haruhi and tamaki from ouran high school host club, which i wasn't mad about, but their personalities didn't feel wholly original. still, i enjoyed this one and look forward to upcoming volumes!

I liked this enough to read but will not be carrying on. I found it to be too typical of many mangas I have read before. I also found that there were a few grammatical errors in translation. Could be so much better.

This was such a fun and sweet manga, I loved every moment! Perfect for those who love romantic shoujo with lovely art style and an adorable gender reversal role that was reminiscent of classics likes Ouran High School Host Club! I can’t wait to see what’s in store for these two lovable characters in the next instalment!!

This was a very interesting slice of life, romantic manga, hard, not only heroine and hero five is it hard switched to the male was the heroin, and I thought that was a really cool concept. I also liked the way that it did a lot of troops all in one, but I think also it did feel like it was rushing from one trip to another trip and there wasn’t very much call down, or get to know each to the tongue between each of them and I think the progression level is really good and generally I think this is a really good manga and I would 100% recommend and breathe more from the series but I feel like unless the way it’s late out is changed it can get really boring really fast

This was exactly what I was looking for! Something sweet, I loved the art. I thought the reversal of gender roles was done perfectly, and I can't wait to see the next issue. This is definitely going on my list of series to watch out for!

Thank you to the publishers through NetGalley for the ARC!

I love any story that smashes traditional gender roles and takes a unique twist on shoujo tropes and plot lines. It's short, sweet and very fun. The artwork is pretty, the characters are likeable. It's interconnected stories, less of a plot like TheIce Guy and His Cool Female Colleague.

This was the most adorable manga I’ve ever read!

Haruma Ichinose has been popular since birth until he meets Yuki Mogami and Ichinose can’t help but fall in love with her countless times. Told in thirteen chapters and multiple bonus chapters this volume is definitely going to make your cheeks hurt from smiling.

I enjoyed how the roles were reversed in this manga. Mogami is the tall, cool hero and Ichinose is the easily flustered, tsundere heroine. The story does a good job making this feel natural and pleasant. I also loved their friendly banter and Ichinose’s thoughts throughout.

Told from Ichinose’s point of view, the story isn’t unique. It’s the execution. Utilizing a somewhat quick pacing the artwork and story focuses on key elements of the dialogue and emotions, while glossing over extra details. This works because the main couple and their friends are enough to hold the reader’s interest as well as the events are common to most shoujo so there’s a tacit understanding.

The artwork is nice and uses a lot of large three panel per page layouts. The manga doesn’t use many small or numerous panels per page, allowing for large character drawings. Also, there aren’t many scenic backgrounds used, except for blank or simple ones. This is advantageous because the characters have clearer facial expressions which when connected with the words makes it a more enjoyable and memorable read. Additionally, the different speech bubbles utilized such as the rounded, pointed or waved edges helped convey the tone in which the characters were speaking. I found that this was not only helpful but helped define the character’s personality more.

Overall, I enjoyed this volume and will be picking up the next volume. It was funny and romantic. I loved the chibis, the overall art style and the layout because it worked well with this type of storytelling. I am rooting for Ichinose but also for our little love story on the side in volume two!
