This was a first time read for me by this author and I found it to be a very fun and entertaining story. It was a sweet story that flowed nicely, although it felt more like a women's fiction than romance, which Is just fine, I was just expecting more of a romance. Rosie is dealing with her insecurities and faces a lot of struggles and this makes her a very realistic and relatable character. And despite the fact that I was looking forward to reading more of a romance, I liked the fact that the story focused more on Rosie and her self-discovery and realizing her own self worth instead of letting it be determined by a man. I found myself rooting for Rosie throughout her entire journey. I also really appreciated Aled's quiet but steady presence throughout it all.
A well-written, easy read that is sure to make you smile and give you all the feels! Thank you to NetGalley for providing a complimentary copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Thank you Embla Books for the ARC in exchange for a review. Very Sophie Cousens writing which I enjoyed. Love the cover. A cute quick read.
I am grateful to NetGalley for providing me with the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. However, I was disappointed to discover that the book was written in third person, a narrative style that I personally do not enjoy, leading me to discontinue reading it. Despite my initial excitement about the promising description of the book, the choice of narrative perspective ultimately hindered my enjoyment of the story.
3 star for description and front cover.
I really enjoyed this book. It was different than anything else I've read recently. I couldn't put it down! I will keep an eye out for this author's future work!
ehhh I was super excited for the premise and it just seemed to miss. I didn’t love the characters and i didn’t feel there was much chemistry. I was hoping for a sooner move in for Alad? I feel like we didn’t even get to the point of him moving in for so long :/
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with a copy for my honest review.
I absolutely loved this books! Rosie was very relatable and I instantly warmed to her. It’s a lovely romance to cosy up with and devour! I can’t wait to read more from Laura Starkey.
a totally predictable storyline but so well written and such good fun! the two main characters were great and you really wanted them to hurry up and get together!! i would definitely read more by Laura Starkey, a perfect summer holiday read
Fantastic, bloody fantastic. I loved this book from the outset, great characters, a paced plot and so much tension. A firm favourite. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for a review.
A slow burn, sweet romance. Forced proximity and immediate attraction. Two souls who had been previously hurt learn to not only discover who they are as individuals but also what they truly deserve in a partner. Aled and Rosie are a perfect match.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very fun book. I enjoyed it a lot!
This was such a cute read that will have you believing in love. It reminded me a lot of The Flatshare, and similar to that read I loved watching the main characters grow and learn from their heartache while embracing a new love. Super cute, fluffy, at times hot, and just a feelgood romance.
Really sweet and quirky with an entire cast of folks I loved. Except James. Obviously. I was rooting for them all.
Love. I love love. And this. True love. Real love. Sweet love. Hot love.
Started a bit cliché, kind like every romance, but that's what I like.
They're fun. They're smart. They're hot. They're meant to be.
It's funny. Entertaining. Sweet and sour.
Loved it.
Laura Starkey's 'The Spare Room' felt like a familiar rom-com experience—a cozy friends-to-lovers story that, while enjoyable, was also pretty predictable. Rosie is a relatable FMC, who embarks on a self-discovery journey, accompanied by the almost too-perfect love interest, Aled.
Despite the predictability of the plot, 'The Spare Room' serves as a decent, light read. Aled and Rosie's characters, along with their friends, were fun and lighthearted, and the improved mother-daughter relationship towards the end adds a heartwarming touch. While it wasn't an instant favourite, this rom-com delivers an enjoyable love story for anyone looking for an easy and lighthearted read.

The Spare Room is a really sweet romantic comedy with a quirky lead and a very dishy love interest. A great holiday read recommendation.
I really enjoyed this book. Loved the main character and how she grew as a person. Would recommend this book
I thought this was so genuinely cute! This was my first book from Laura and I already want more! At time I thought the characters were a little bit immature and not well fleshed out but the plot made it all worth it, in my opinion. Aled was amazing, I just wish we could see a little more of him throughout it. But the slow burn was BURNING, I loved it so damn much.
Lovely little sweet rom-com. Good read that I finished in a couple of days. Slightly predictable but still good. Left me smiling and would make a great holiday read.
I really wanted to like this but I really hated the characters. I found them immature and so frustrating to read. The romance wasn't there for me either -- it reads more like women's fiction.
This was a great read and a true rom-com! Rosie and Alex end up rooming together and comedy ensues. This one had all the feels. Thoroughly enjoyed!
