Piper really really wants a pet and has some unconventional picks before the perfect pet enters her life. Piper's Pet Pursuit is a funny picture book about a situation pretty common for kids: wanting a pet. The topic is covered in a humorous way and the illustrations show all the silly details. This would be a great bedtime story for younger kids.
Thanks to Whimpshire Books and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
Extremely hilarious! This picture book takes "malicious compliance" to the next level, where the protagonist wants to take care of all the animals to the absurd level of taking care of cockroaches and feeding ants.
The narration is upbeat and full of positivity, encouraging determination and creativity of a child.
The illustrations were vivid and stylized, my only complaint is that some of the elements of the pictures looked like cloned / copy pasted (why are all butterflies looking the same just different colours?).
Would make a great bed-time story for younger children.
Thank you Netgalley and Whimspire Books for the arc.
Okay, this is the cutest book! And honestly, I love the whole story! Piper is determined to have a pet and she shows how responsible she is through the stuffed animals and all the critters she decides "to help" along the way. I love how she believes she is making all the bugs comfortable, and her Mom and Dad keep ruining her attempts. I think her last ditch effort of having bugs as pets totally helped with her "reasonable request" of having a pet. I loved this story! 5 stars all the way!
This was such a comforting read. It provided me with so much comfort and reminded me of my childhood. I believe this book could even be read by readers who don't regularly read Children's fiction. This is a book to get you out of a reading slump and bring you the joy and motivation needed to pick up another book.
While I write this, I sit and smile at how pure Piper is. While her parents see harmful and bacteria-carrying insects, Piper sees new crawling companions. If I were a bug, I'd pay any fee to stay at the Bugmore Bed & Breakfast. In the future, Piper should go into hospitality. Her loving and welcoming personality will warm the hearts of both bugs and humans.
Thank you NetGalley and Whimpshire Books LLC for providing me with this ARC.
A cute little story about a little girl who really wants a pet. Her parents keep telling her no, so she begins to embrace the creepy crawlies around her home as pets. The illustrations are cute and bold and the story is humorous and light.
Piper is a little girl who adores animals. She is absolutely desperate to have a pet. Unfortunately Piper's parents give her lots of excuses as to why she can't have a pet.
When Piper finally opens a bed and breakfast for all the animals she has acquired in her dollshouse, her parents finally come round!
Great book for children who are animal lovers as well as children are still trying to get their own pet at home! Parents will also enjoy it as it gives their perspective as well!
The illustrations are engaging throughout and will have both adult and child enjoying the story!
Nice drawings, but the writing was not very good. The ending was very abrupt.
I would recommend it to kids who love animals.
A fun book showing a girl who is adamant she is mature enough to have a pet. Now, normally I am turned off books that just encourage the young to indulge in pester power until they get a household member they are unqualified to look after, just because someone in a book once was, but this is different – the girl is going through all the hoops to show she will care for and tidy up after a critter, and anyway – she's got a host of them now, in the bug palace she's built instead!
This then doesn't encourage the young reader to demand a pet, but merely shows the whole family how much worse a Plan B could be. As such it's a humorous piece, and a really bright, colourful and pleasant one – cartoonish, but sensible, featuring a character doing something I dislike but not so as to be emulated by all and sundry, and with an all-round appealing touch. The ironic narration from the girl is a final piece of the credit to this, which is a strong four stars.
An adorable and engaging book. Piper’s quest for a pet pushes her to take hilarious adventures with a surprisingly sweet ending.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me an advanced copy to review!
Piper's Pet Pursuit (love the alliteration btw!) Is an adorable book about one tenacious girl's persistence in getting a pet. Her parents told her she can't have one, so she started treating the "unexpected visitors" as pets, much to her parents dismay. This book is beautifully illustrated with many funny moments that my girls adored (they also are on a quest for a pet). They could relate to Piper's frustrations and creativity to solving the problem, and I could relate to the horror and exasperation the parents felt! Plus the ending was so cute and perfect for this story!
This is definitely a 5 star children's book and I definitely will be picking up a physical copy when it's released :)
This book has eye catching illustrations and the dialogue goes at a great pace to make a book that is a great length for new readers! The alliteration used is adorable. I love the “parents’” perspective to each new ask.
Piper's Pet Pursuit is a wonderful book about a very persistent little girl who wants a pet so bad, she builds an inn for bugs and more to treat their guests with care. The illustrations are beautiful and I know I would've loved this book when I was younger.
Cute little book that demonstrates kindness and to animals and also how to be a responsible little pet owner. Piper has proven herself to her parents and she is given the chance to pamper all the pets she befriends. While I don’t personally love bugs, most kids do so I love the creativity that this book shows them on how to have fun with the wildlife in their own environment. Simply adorable and funny! My kids loved it too!
This was a short and easy picture book to read and understand. Most children from a young age want to own a pet but don't always understand the responsibilities of having one. Not Piper though. She had the plan to show her parents that she was more than capable of having a pet and looking after it. Some of her methods were funny, some parts grossed me out and I completely understood where her parents were coming from and some were plain sweet.

This children's story is a quirky and fun one. Piper made me smile with her desire for a pet and the adventures she gets up to on her quest is very amusing.
I think with the cute colourful illustrations and easy flowing narrative a lot of animal lovers will enjoy this book

Piper really wants a pet. When her parents teach her to be kind to all creatures, including mosquitos, her parents realize she can take care of a pet of her own. Plus, they just might just not want anymore cockroaches sleeping with little felt blankets or beetles riding on rubber duckies in the bathtub, A cute and beautifully illustrated picture book.
Piper wants a pet, but her parents say no. We follow Piper on her journey for a pet. Cute read, my 2 year old enjoyed it.
🤗Delightful whimsy🐜🐞🐸🐿
I found Piper's Pet Pursuit adorably entertaining and the bright illustrations combined superbly with the text to make a storybook that should delight any child.
Piper finds a way to quickly wear her parents down when they refuse to get her a pet. Her method appears a bit creepy (crawly) to an adult, but she just wants a live creature (or more!) to care for!
And the last few pages are such a cute way to end the story! I hope the author brings Piper back for future adventures.
Thanks to Whimspire Books and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the storybook; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Cute story, following a child who wants a pet. It truly captures the mind of a child on a mission to convince their parents. Adorable story with a fun ending.
Thank you author, publisher, and Negalley for the free ARC. This was a cute book. I thought the premise of the story and illustrations were very cute. I liked the story, however, it ended up falling a little flat for me. It ended very abruptly.
