Cawpile score of 8.29/4.5 stars
I feel like this book was more put together than the first one and I really enjoyed the pacing. Most of the action is happening in the human realm, but we get POVs that let us know what's going on at the court as well.
Veyka gets to know more about her power and about prophecies and how they are entangled with the ancients. I find her quite relatable and her actions, as well as her reactions are understandable most of the time. She's still snapping kinda easy for my liking, but she's a 25 years old and part of a race that lives for hundreds of years, so basically she's super young, which makes her annoying little tantrums understandable as well, but I hope she'll be more mature in the next book.
I didn't see much growth among the other characters, but Cyara is by far my favourite.
This book is also filled with death and heartbreak as well as other past and present traumas, so if you get triggered, check the TW at the beginning of the book

Was not disappointed with this second book of the series. It continues to grip and pull you into a world that comes to life when reading, this second book left me with heartache and wanting vengeance on behalf of the characters I can't wait for the third installment.

Book 2 picks up right where we left off in Book 1 and feels like a very cohesive second installment (so all the things I liked are still there and all the things I hated were also still around in abundance).
I struggled a lot more with the characters being unlikeable (both MC are beyond insufferable in this one) and the romance this time around felt so forced so I think ultimately that means I won’t be continuing with this series. I also felt like the plot just became really predictable and a bit stupid? (there were just too many plot holes to ignore and it really impacted on being able to enjoy the story).
I think because the romance felt so forced the smutty scenes were just boring (I skipped most of them) as there was just no genuine connection being built here.
I am sure lots of people are going to love this series, especially readers who loved ACOTAR etc and want more explicit scenes but if you’re interested in developed characters, believable character arcs, and complex plots then this isn’t the one for you.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an E-ARC

Really enjoyed this second installment. I did feel that Arran and Veyka’s horniness for each other felt a bit repetitive (especially the actions and descriptions)and took away from the plot. When they were able to keep their hands off each other, and further the plot, I was really enjoying the story. Will definitely continue with the next book.
There were a number of spelling and grammatical errors in the ARC copy, so hopefully those were corrected prior to publication.
ARC received via NetGalley.

Princess of secrets? Brutal Prince? Or high queen and king of Annwyn? This spicy book is the second in the series of ‘the secrets of the Faerie crown’ with the 3rd being released in April 2024. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, it had me hooked at the get go and I cannot wait to continue the series next year to see what awaits for Veyka and her mate. Please read the trigger warnings before reading but I do highly recommend and would go so far as to say that although I read this via kindle I would love for it to have pride place on my physical bookshelf. Emberly has done absolutely amazing not only with her story line but also with the descriptions of the characters, their emotions and the worlds around them.

Throne of Air and Darkness is a great sequel to Crown of Earth and Sky, we continue to see Veyka continue to become less consumed by grief and grow past her prejudices against humans as she, Arran and their group travel to the human realm. I was thoroughly engaged throughout the novel and while I confess that I got a little frustrated with Veyka, her actions stayed true to her character and the reasoning behind them was clear.
While Arran is still a tad judgemental and overprotective and he doesn't always give Veyka the benefit of the doubt, I really liked how their relationship grew and how he learned how to be emotionally vulnerable with Veyka.
Parys and Gwen are left behind in Annwyn so we get to see what's happening there from their perspectives and while I generally don't like new POVs being added into series, this was well done and didn't take away from Veyka and Arran's POVs.
I won't pretend that some aspects of the ending weren't predictable but there were a few unexpected twists that I didn't see coming. Like Crown of Earth and Sky, the book ended on a massive cliffhanger and so I'm eagerly anticipating Court of Vines and Vipers.

"Throne of Air and Darkness" picks up where "Crown of Earth and Sky" left off. This entry in Ash's Secrets of the Faerie Crown series feels a little more dense than its predecessor as well as bit darker. The story, already complex, becomes even a bit more complicated, and the round table spends much of the book apart, meaning stories are told in both locales and from multiple POV. The book is still very readable, but takes more concentration to keep all of the elements straight. VERY spicy with another cliffhanger ending. I will definitely be reading the third book in the series.
3.5 stars rounded to 4. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a complimentary ARC of this book. The opinions herein are my own.

Exciting sequel that kept me on the edge of my seat. I cannot wait to see how the story progresses, especially with the cliff hanger we were left on. The third book cannot come soon enough.

I really enjoyed this story. The relationship between Arran and Veyka has developed into a strong one of trust and I love that. I love the found family aspect and how the Knights of the around Table came into being.
The plot is interesting and had a twist that I didn’t see coming at all and a twist that I knew was going to happen almost from the beginning of book one.
I felt this book dragged a little in the middle but I love Arran and he alone kept me engaged. I will definitely be reading the next book.

I enjoyed this one even more than book two but I am now DYING for book three after that ending, I NEED to know what is going to happen next, I can't, all those revelations were insane! Arran and Parys, I'm going to be wondering for the next few months until book three that's for sure.
A very enjoyable read, some great steamy moments too and I'm very much looking forwards to book three!

Throne of Air and Darkness by Emberly Ash is the second book in The Secrets of The Fearie Crown series. It's is an adult fantasy romance with some dark elements. The story uses a lot of Arthurian legends as its base.
I was looking forward to this book after finishing the first in the series and I was not disappointed.
Veyka and Arran are newly bonded and mated and struggling with what that means to them personally. Veyka's new abilities and threats to the kingdom lead the newly crowned High King and Queen to take a quest to the human realm and search for Avalon.
I enjoyed the story and relationship development between the characters immensely. Lots of action, secrets and adventures. I can't wait for the next one!
Thanks to netgalley for this arc and all views expressed are my own.

I immersed myself in this book completely!
Building on the bloodthirsty, fantastically Arthurian lines of the first book, there was a huge amount of development within this book. Torn apart by her newfound powers, Arran and Veyka battle to reunite and balance their relationship and new fates as High Queen and King of Annywn.
Leaving their kingdom in capable hands, Veyka and Arran journey to the human realm to find the mythical Avalan, and discover the mysteries of Excalibur and the prophecies surrounding their births.
There was so much to love in this book, from beginning to end... and it nearly did me in. How will I wait for the next book after that ending?
Magical, powerful and dark romantasy at its best.

Excuse me Emberly that ending 😳 I thought the first book ending was bad but this?! Is it April yet? Asking for a friend, I cannot wait for Court of Vines and Vipers.
I loved the journey that Veyka and Arran went on in this book. The spice is spicing and Arran’s mouth 🥵 It picks right back up from the end of Crown of Earth and Sky. They must journey with their trusted friends into human territory in order to learn the truth about Veyka.
The kingdom is left to be watched over by Parys and Gwen and we get a little taste of their POVs in this story along with Veyka and Arran.
Veyka and Arran must also work on their relationship now that they are joined and they find it takes a lot of honesty with each other outside of the obvious physical attraction. Veyka is still struggling how to stand on her own two feet, she was Arthur’s sister, then Queen and now so much more with Arran. She must learn to forgive, love and be honest with herself about her feelings. Arran struggles with being overprotective because he loves her and wants to unburden Veyka. Finding that balance for them is key.
Events are unfolding in Annwyn while they are away and when they finally reach their destination all hell breaks loose and Veyka must choose. Will she learn the truth about herself? Did she make the wrong choice? What is happening in Annwyn?
Read Throne of Air and Darkness to find out ☺️

“I was breaking into a million pieces- and I was going to bring the world with me. I was going to shatter it all.”
“Throne of Air and Darkness” by Emberly Ash is book 2 in the Secrets of the Faerie Crown series. After Veyka finds herself thrust between worlds and reunited with Arran, their quest for answers becomes a exploration of the dangers lurking in the human realm and the encroaching darkness affecting the men of that world. Against formidable odds, Veyka, Arran, and their companions forge ahead.
The ending was wow! I loved the first book and the second was just as good. The world building is absolutely amazing, and I loved loved the characters and their developments. I love Veyka and Arran’s relationship and the spicy scenes are pwah. I cannot wait for the next book. It’s a unique Fae world than other books, perfect for any Fae lover. 5 out of 5 stars!

Throne of Air and Darkness is book two in the Secrets of the Faerie Crown series by Emberly Ash.
This book completely transported me to a phenomenal world, and I could not put it down.
I loved how descriptive the world building and characters were.
I thought the author’s writing style was descriptive and provided great background information, so it was easy to follow along.
I loved the characters, the story, the romance… it was all done so well.
An amazing fantasy romance.
Thank You NetGalley and Victory Editing for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!

Veyka has been powerless all her life, suffering at the hands of her own mother, until now. After the joining with Arran Earthborn, her terrestrial enemy turned lover, everything changes, and nothing could prepare her for the adventure that awaits her. Now she must search for answers to the Prophecy she never believed in, or her whole would will come crumbling down.
First and foremost I want to say this series is incredible. If you haven’t read it, please do! If you love Arthurian fantasy, high fae, wolf shifters, and dark fantasy romance, you will not regret reading these books!
Veyka is very headstrong, and understandably fights her emotions throughout. I felt frustrated at times, but you have to keep in mind that she’s been through an incredible amount of trauma. Arran is incredible through it all. He holds her up and supports her, from finding her powers she didn’t know she had to her reluctance to accept him.
This book is MUCH spicier than Crown of Earth and Sky, but I suppose that’s to be expected considering the circumstances! If you’re one of my smut loving book besties, this will be right up your alley!
Emberly is now officially Queen of Cliffhangers. How could you break my heart like this? I am so excited for the next book! I need solace😭💖

Ok THIS was what I was hoping for!!!! Book 2 got it all right!
Now that Veyka and Arran are joined the focus shifts to the battle to save their kingdom. Not that they don’t each have issues they need to work through.
I held my breath for half of this book I think. And now I cannot wait to see how it all will end.
Definitely a reminder that this book has some TW to look over before you read!
Big thanks to NetGalley, and Emberly Ash for the digital ARC for my honest review!

Emberly Ash has done it again!
Throne of Air and Darkness is a steamy romp through realms in search of Avalon. We get so many answers to questions from Crown of Earth and Sky, in addition to a special gift of Parys POV!!
There is just as much, if not more, betrayal and subterfuge than we saw in the first book. BUT we also get tender and loving moments between our fiesty mates. The human realm is expanded upon in this sequel, with much less attention on the fae realm.
Veyka's powers are expanded on well, and the prologue gives crucial information for understanding the prophecies!
You definitely need to understand that Veyka is heavily impacted by her trauma, and as such struggles with not being given true choice. I don't think it would be fair to say she is being childish throughout this book, she is fighting to find herself and understand if what she feels is more than something predestined to happen.
Also, if you like spicy wolf-shifter romance... You will definitely get some of that action.

This is the gripping second book in the Secrets of the Faerie Crown series, and I'm still reeling from the experience. This high-steam fantasy romance masterfully retells the Arthurian legend with a dark twist. I was completely absorbed by the story of Veyka Pendragon, a reluctant queen in the faerie realm of Annwyn, and her complex relationship with Arran Earthborn, her former foe turned lover. Their journey through trust issues, love, and a quest for truth is heart-wrenching and beautifully written. The character development is phenomenal, especially Veyka's growth and Arran's moral ambiguity. The ending left me breathless and eagerly waiting for the next installment. This book is a must-read for anyone who loves a blend of romance, fantasy, and deep emotional storytelling.

Throne of Air and Darkness by Emberly Ash is the second book in the Secrets of the Faerie Crown series and picks up where the first left off, with Veyka’s disappearance. Even more than book one, this story is about fighting for love, even when it’s hard. In addition, it explores themes of redemption, fate and healing from trauma. This is a dark story and includes adult content so please check content warnings. Tropes and include a stabby FMC, touch her and die, mental health rep, court intrigue, found family, healing & comfort and a plus size FMC.
The Lovely: By far, the best part of this book was the characters, and their relationships. The author makes you care about them on a deep level and you become invested in their lives, their relationships and their happiness. The MCs relationship is messy and complex, with a side of angst and anger, all of which make it feel real, and special. Also, I have a new found love for Cyara - IYKYK.
Also Lovely: While this story focuses heavily on the characters, it’s worked against a mysterious plot and solid tension. What is happening in the realms in regards to Arthur’s death and the prophecy is still largely unknown and as the reader you’re trying to figure it out along with the characters. There’s always something happening to pull the story along and keep you turning to the next page. I will warn you the ending is a big cliffhanger and it left me sitting on my bed crying. I knew it would be a cliff but it really hit me in the feels.
Rating: 5/5 Stars 3/5 Flames
Recommendation: I received an advance review copy for free from NetGalley and I am leaving this review voluntarily. After the wild ride of the relationships, the ending and being a book that made me FEEL, this was easily a five star read. I’m not sure my heart will make it to book 3 in April but I’ve got to try, and hope that some of the things from the end of book 2 get “resolved” quickly. If you like dark romantic fantasy with strong character and relationship development, and that hits you in the feels, you would like this book.
