A beautiful heartwarming picture book about a little girl who goes on underwater adventures to help her aging grandmother preserve her memories. There is a wonderful bond between the girl and her grandmother. A great way to explore the ocean with Alina.
Massini has illustrated this book wonderfully bringing magic to the underwater scenes.
We loved the merpeople and the rhyming of the story.
Great for a bedtime story or a read a loud story at school.
This is a sweet, heartwarming picture book with colourful illustrations. It's told in fun rhyming sentences, and I think children will enjoy exploring the ocean with Alina. It's probably a good choice to read as a bedtime story.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a free copy to review.
Holly Hughes brings us a heart warming, sweet and lovely story about a girl, her beautiful bond with her grandmother and how to preserve memories throughout time. The illustrations and colour scheme that Sarah Massini delivers are absolutely gorgeous and the children find themselves totally immersed in this underwater whimsical journey. Elements such as the lighthouse or the mermaid add to the magic and eyes remain glued to the very last page. This book has been a huge success from Nursery all the way up to Year 2
I would definitely recommend this book, I think its ability to transport us to other worlds is brilliant.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my review copy, all opinions are my own.
A delightful short tale of a young girl trying to help her grandmother's failing memory recall her magical stories. She finds assistance in an unusual source - the merpeople who live in the waters around their lighthouse home.
Beautifully illustrated, this charming, moving story should warm the coldest of hearts. Wonderful.
It is a lovely rhyming picture book with amazing illustrations and a very nice story about a little girl going on an underwater adventure to help her grandma keep her memories.
The story flows so nicely and the rhyming is like reading a poem. Little one loved it 🥰 , kept her interested throughout the story and is a real page-turner. Hollie and Sarah made again a wonderful book. We own The Girl and the Dinosaur and it was one of my daughter's first books that we both love it.
I definitely recommend this book to any parent, librarian, bookseller or teacher. I can't wait until next week for publication day to buy a copy for our library.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read an ARC
This gloriously illustrated picture book for children up to the age of 6 is quite simply magical.
Alina and Granny live in a lighthouse, since Granny became too old to work the light, Alina has stepped in to the role. Every night, Granny listens to her conch shell to hear her memories so that she is able to tell wonderful tales of oceanic adventures but over time, her memory and therefore her stories have started to fade. This makes Granny sad and Alina hates to see her in so much emotional pain.
One morning, Alina spots a mermaid in the sea and in shock at the truth in Granny’s folklore, she follows her into the sea. Together they swim through the coral reefs, past treasure, shipwrecks and beautiful schools of fish to a spectacular sight. Alina is given a special gift by her new friends and heads back to Granny to help her wishes to come true.
The colour palette of this book combines with the wonderous art work and meaningful text to make a perfect pick for any bookshelf. Not only is this a very lovely bedtime story, it also teaches of familial love and how younger generations can keep memories of their elders alive. The best way to ensure that a memory remains is to share it with many.
A sweet story about a girl and her grandmother and the girl’s concern for her grandmother’s stories fading away one day. Lovely illustrations with a wonderful easy-on-the-eyes colour palette. The story is written in poetic prose or as a prose poem, however you want to see it, so it’s extra sweet. There’s a nice rhythmic tone to it as you read it out loud. The ending is a tad bit abrupt but works well poetically, metaphorically…
Thank You Netgalley for providing me with the opportunity to read this ARC.
