What a cute novel I loved the premise but mannn let me tell you as a spicy dark romance girly this was very “clean” I missed my spice. I think that would have added to the story a bit more but I get it. I liked the love triangle aspect that’s always a fav for me
It’s Complicated is just that… complicated! But it’s complicated in the best way!
Lori, Aiden and Jace have been best friends since college and now work together as doctors in their medical practice. Lori has been pining over Aiden for 15 years but now he’s getting married to someone who seems the complete opposite to her.
When Lori finds the invitation she runs to Jace to vent. When Aiden turns up the next morning, Lori announces that Jace and herself are dating and the fake dating begins.
As the lead up to the wedding progresses, tension starts to rise between Lori and Jace and maybe there’s more to fake dating than they thought. Lori starts to wonder if she even loves Aiden anymore…why did she feel a spark with Jace? Is it his just his charm or something more? The ending of this book by the way…my heart was just full ❤️❤️❤️
I really enjoyed this book, a love triangle fake dating book is now my new favourite trope!! It really went into the complexity of friends and moving past that sometimes. It’s a closed door romance but certainly isn’t lacking chemistry!
It’s Complicated by Camilla Isley is 5 Stars! I absolutely loved this book! Isley has really outdone herself here. This book is for you if you like fake dating, rom-coms, friends to lovers, a love triangle (but not really) and lots of banter.
Lori, Aiden & Jace are three general family doctors that became friends in college and now have a practice together. In college, the boys made a pact not to date Lori in order to keep the friendship intact. But…Lori fell for Aiden….Jace fell for Lori and Aiden never acted on his feelings for Lori. Everyone kept quiet about their feelings. Fast forward to today, Aiden meets and proposes to Kirsten and during a very brief engagement plans a wedding that causes this little friendship triangle to topple. Feelings become known and fake relationships become real. This is a closed door romance but heavy on the chemistry. I had a hard time putting this book down. Such a good laugh out loud and feel good romance.
Thank you NetGalley, Boldwood Books and Camilla Isley for graciously allowing me to read an ARC.
I really enjoyed the first 3/4 of this book. It was fun and humorous, the plot engaging, and the characters likable, and I had to force myself to put it down so I could get some sleep. But at about the 75% mark, things started to fall flat, and the final act was disappointing and unrealistic. My #1 biggest pet peeve about romance is when a simple miscommunication is the cause of the couple's third-act breakup. My #2 biggest pet peeve is the predictable, cookie-cutter ending. Yeah, we all know where the bus is heading, but couldn't it take a different route? Unfortunately, It's Complicated hit both in the end, which left me feeling let down. Too bad, because it started off with such promise.
Warm and cosy read that has a few of my favourite tropes! Friends to lovers, he falls first and both have quirky personalities. Even though the plot was predicable, I do love to read a light love story on a Sunday.
Lori, Aiden and Jace have been friends since college days. Lori fancies Aiden and Jace fancies Lori but none of them are the wiser. Aiden is about to get married and cue some fake dating between Lori and Jace!
Would recommend for fans of rom coms and light easy reads.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book was SO enjoyable and I hated putting it down at all!!
Lori, Aiden & Jace are in a love triangle, sorta-kinda. The should've, could've, would've possibilities are endless and messy.
The author did a great job exploring how both Lori & Jace felt about their pining years. Each for someone that was unaware.
I hated how Jace ran away though. I know he was hurt and heartbroken but he's a doctor in a small practice and he thought it was ok to just disappear?? That bothered me.
Other than that this was a great book that I would definitely recommend!
I loved the dual POV's. It was really great getting to see things from both Jace and Lori's perspectives. But I didn't love that there wasn't more spice 😕
Overall, this is a sweet and well written friends to lovers/fake dating romance!! Despite the lack of spice, the chemistry between Jace and Lori was fabulous and there are quite a few laugh out loud moments (the chicken incident? 🤣 iykyk)
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood books for the ARC of this book! It was a quick read that I read in one evening and I enjoyed it. It was formulaic but about what I expected. I thought it was super sweet!
Lori, Aiden and Jace have been friends since college and now own a medical practice together. Lori has always secretly been in love with Aiden and Jace has always secretly been in love with her. When, Aiden's wedding invitation comes in the mail, Lori panics and ends up telling Aiden that her and Jace are dating. Form fake dating come the real dating and a sweet relationship happens. This book was exactly what I expected and it was a fun read. I would read others by this author. Thanks for the opportunity to review it!
I enjoyed this book and it was a fun in between read but not my favorite. It was a friends to lovers story, which is nice every once in a while, and had some funny moments. The plot was too predictable in my opinion but the characters were fun. The pacing could've been better.
This was a cute concept and cover, but I really struggled with the writing. I found the plot predictable and struggled with the way the ending wrapped up. It’s a quick, charming read, but I was left wanting more .
It's Complicated is a light-hearted, easy to read romance story involving a trio with 15 years of friendship, an upcoming wedding, a fantasy, & true love. Fun storyline & great characters that make me really want to join them for a fictional brunch or happy hour cause they're so well written.
Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC! Camilla Isley is a talented author & I'm already looking forward to reading more of her books soon.
I love this author so I was excited to read her new book, It's Complicated.
It was a wonderful romcom - the dual POV, the laughs (it was funny) and oh so sweet (and spicy too!) A fun romcom to all the romance lovers.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
The happiest of happily ever afters. One of the sweetest heart warming books I’ve read in a while. A good reminder that love can win out without being overtly sickeningly sweet. Would recommend for a quick good hearted read.
Friends to lovers is my FAVORITE trope
✅ leads are in their mid-30s, ~ 35 and attending a wedding
✅ fake dating
✅ dual POV
✅ unproblematic workplace romance
✅ Taylor Swift references
✅ genuinely funny

This book was such a delight to read and I just had a great time reading the book. The premise and plot was greatly enjoyable and the characters were just a delight. This book looked like it was just up my alley, and in hindsight, it really well. It was funny and adorable and I highly recommend it. I look forward to checking out some of this author’s other work in the future!
SO. MUCH. FUN.
I absolutely loved this dual PoV romcom. Terrific backstory, which lays the foundation for the present day story, and excellent characters. I laughed out loud throughout and there is a lot of heart and so many romantic moments. And it's so HOT (heat level about 3.5).
Highly recommended for lovers of romcoms.
It’s Complicated will be my last read for 2023 but it will not be my last Camilla Isley book. It’s Complicated definitely has strong My Best Friend’s Wedding vibes. Lori has a thing for Aiden but Jace has a thing for Lori. Aiden is getting married and Lori talks Jace into a faking dating scheme to make Aiden jealous and maybe call off his wedding.
This book is under 300 pages and like all the other Isley books I’ve read I like that there’s no fluff or filler. We get a full story that has a great pace. There’s a lot of humor and the right amount of conflict to keep interest the whole time and of course a HEA.
I received It’s Complicated via NetGalley to read and review.
"It's Complicated" by Camilla Isley left me with complicated thoughts (HA, see what I did there?). This cute, fluffy story was pretty good, happily surprising me.
While I haven't read any other books by Isley for comparison, one thing stood out in this story: the amount of text exchanges that took up much of the chapter space. There was a lot. Frankly, I found this disappointing as these text messages didn't quite carry the narrative forward as effectively as I hoped.
However, despite this storytelling choice, the charm of the overall concept and characters made the read enjoyable. The vibrant personalities and delightful moments added fun to the narrative.
Absolutely loved this one. Jake, Lori, and Aiden were a great trio. Jake is the definition of the kinda friend every girl wants. The chemistry between Jake and Lori was perfect. My only complaint is I wish it wasn't a closed door romance. I had such high hopes for it.
I received and ARC if this book and it was just adorable! I loved the quirkiness of the main character Lori/Lola, as well as her two besties Jace and Aiden. The unrequited love from two of the three and an impending wedding for the third makes it quite an interesting situation and the title certainly fits! Its a story that made me laugh and have all the feels and seeing all the love of many kinds, the fake dating mishaps, misconceptions, and the sweetness that is revealed was just a pleasure to read. I loved it! Especially the end!
