Thanks to NetGalley for the arc!
This started so good! The last 10% lost me a little bit and left me a little confused. Maybe I will have to go back because the majority of the book was really good! Fast paced and interesting, I had no idea where it was going to go but was sucked in to find out. Overall it was really well written and I enjoyed it a lot!

Don’t get me wrong — I didn’t HATE this book. The characters were interesting and I loved the entire plot regarding the twins and their abilities plus a bit of backstory into the town.
But honestly… I was really disappointed by the end. It wasn’t overly shocking (quite predictable, actually) which made the “mystery” of the main story pretty boring.
I really do wish that there had been MORE about the twins abilities and the backstory on that as it’s what piqued my interest originally, but given how the story revolved around the death, I had assumed that THAT must be the interesting part of the plot.
It was not.
I found it very difficult to keep up with characters; I know the whole point is that it is a small town so everyone knows everyone, but WHY must their names all start with M?? It’s possible that listening to this as an audiobook added to my confusion, but it made me not feel connected to really any of the characters.
Other than the aspects of the twins, the bus crash, and the reporter, this was a very very basic mystery and the writing was oftentimes fairly cheesy.
I DID download the second book before finishing the first, so I’ll be reading that as well simply to say I did and in the hopes that we will learn more about the twins, but overall I can’t say I recommend the series.

Wow! This was an intense listen!

The first book in the series of Port Gamble Chronicles doesn’t disappoint. Secrets, lies, jealousy, teen drama, suspicious death and deception all lead to a fascinating story. I was hooked from the beginning and the added supernatural element was great.

The narrator, Karen Peakes does a wonderful job portraying a variety of characters with her tones and inflections. She kept me engaged till the very end.

This series quickly introduces many characters and gives you a backstory to some and does so in a way that’s not confusing. I’m eager to dive in to book 2 now to see what happens next in this small town as there’s a few unanswered questions.

A thrilling and murderous read perfect for YA readers. When Katelyn is discovered lifeless in the bath-tub by her mother, it seems to be a suicide. The tragedy is more pronounced by the fact that she had survived a tragic accident 10 years before that took the lives of her peers. The same accident left twins Hayley and Taylor with the supernatural ability to hear from the dead. Before long, they can hear Katelyn and it appears her demise was a lot darker and violent. A slow pace throughout kept this a tantalising teaser of a listen. A well narrated story. #beneathherskin #greggolsen #netgalley

Beneath Her Skin started off a bit slow for me but ended up fast paced, action driven thriller featuring a set of twin girls with some psychic abilities and a dead friend. It leaves you with soo many questions straight from the beginning and wanting to turn the page to find out what happens next!

I was provided an uncorrected arc by NetGalley and Gregg Olsen and am thrilled be be able to review this book before it is published. I haven't read this author before and I am not disappointed. What a good mystery thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat and in suspense until the last page. I would highly recommend reading this book.

it was okay but fell a bit flat for me. felt like too many plots in one and some of the teen references were outdated. full review on instagram

I sometimes enjoy reading YA fiction and I really like Gregg Olsen books but this was unfortunately a miss for me. Maybe it was the twins supernatural ability? I felt like if there was maybe a different way through the story without that aspect I would’ve enjoyed it more.
I did however enjoy the narrator for this audiobook which was Karen Peakes.

Thank you Bookouture Audio for my copy of this book.
The audio version of this book is now available.

Hayley and Taylor twins with a unique talent. Did Katelyn kill herself or was she murdered the twins help uncover the truth. A good thriller with good characters and good plotting. The narrator made the story move along nicely. I received this audiobook from Bookoutre audio and Netgalley for a review.

I am a big Gregg Olsen fan so I was happy to have been given an audiobook of Beneath Her Skin from Netgalley. While I enjoyed listening to this story, it was not one of my favorites by this author.

It has a very slow build and was hard for me to get into until pretty far into the book. It has a lot of supernatural elements which I enjoyed, but I would have liked to know more about the twins and that the story is about and have the story built from there.

Thank you Netgalley for the audiobook of Beneath Her Skin

I really enjoyed this YA crime thriller. The twins having their unique talents really added a different touch to the typical thriller. I also enjoyed the audio voice of this book.

Teen twins Hayley and Taylor Ryan have been able to hear the dead for as long as they can remember and when school mate Katelyn is found dead in the bathtub they use their gift to give her a voice and find out just what exactly happened. Was her death a suicide as the small town thinks? Certainly at first glance it seems to be plausible but the twins think otherwise, and as they get closer to getting answers, it becomes apparent they are being watched. Will they be next?

Brilliant writing by Gregg Olsen does a nice job of setting characters and the town up for future books while maintaining excitement throughout to make this book a great stand alone as well. Definitely will pick up Book 2 in the future to see where the series will take us as I can see many paths the storyline could take. Thrilled to find out.

I got this as an audible ARC and I love that this story is based out of Washington (where I’m from) so I felt like I knew all the places and felt more connected . This story kept me guessing and then there was more. I’m excited to see what the set of twins can actually do with there supernatural instincts “feeling”. I can’t wait to know the other stories in the series.

It does talk about mental issues and suicide.

Beneath Her Skin was not what I expected it to be. I struggled to enjoy the book at first, but by halfway through I was happily engaged in the lives of Hayley and Taylor. I believe what threw me off was the characters having psychic abilities; it’s not usually a device I like to see utilized to solve “the mystery”. However, as I became more invested in the story I began to really enjoy it. Creating a subplot with Savannah is where Olsen really hit the mark with this book. The intrigue of how Savannah was involved gave Beneath Her Skin the bite it was missing otherwise. I ended up truly liking the book and looking forward to moving on to the second installment.

So I am trying really hard to get into audiobooks. They would be great for my commute and while I am working from home or cleaning. The narrator really makes the difference. This narrator did a great job keeping my intrigued in the story.

This book is about a teenage girl that is found dead, of what they believe is suicide. Through her former bff’s, who happen to have some sort of ability, they find out what Katelyn has been up to. She was having a friendship with someone online and had secrets to keep. So does everyone in Port Gamble, a town that has seen it’s fair share of tragedies. The twins are racing to find out what happened to Katelyn before a reporter drops a bombshell about the twins. There are twists and turns, the storyline is good. I think this is a well suited YA thriller book!

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to listen to this on audio. Gregg Olsen is a favorite author of mine. My opinions are honest and my own.

Firstly let me start with saying I have read/listened to a lot of Gregg Olsen. This one was different and I thought I would give it a go. I found it slow to start and I had to keep coming back to it. Once I did, I did get into the story but I am glad I listened to it rather than read it. I found the narration really engaging. I am also thinking that I am not the target audience and I didnt realise it was more YA than his usual stories.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

Thank you Netgalley and the author for allowing me this audiobook. First, the narrator was excellent. Her tone and voice was pleasant. The story was good. I've enjoyed the true crime books Olsen has written in the past and I'm glad to have read this novel. It kept me engaged and I look forward to read more by the author.

This book had me hooked right from the beginning. The narrator was fantastic and the story great.
Following the death of a teenager that lives next door to 2 teenage twin girls that have special abilities and end up taking on this mystery of what happened to her. They don’t believe it was an accident as the coroner rules. They take you on many journeys through out the town as they try to figure out who did it. The story at the end of what really happened was weird and not who I suspected.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for sending me book 1 and 2. It was great to be able to read them back to back. However they would also be great as stand alone as you doing need to read book 1 to understand book 2.
