This book brought the characters to life so vividly that you feel like you know these people and its impossible not to get jnevsted early. I loved the slow burn, the tension being built, the unease and the twists and turns. It had everything I wanted in that kind of eerie, thriller vibe
Cass and James are saving for their own home. They take a job as caretakers in a Manor House so they can earn some money.
After they move in they find out that the house has been empty for thirty years because of a gruesome murder that took place there.
A spooky story with lots of twist and turns that kept me guessing.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
I adore Louise Jensen’s books and with every new release I can’t wait to read it. This next novel is such a twisty story with two stories and two timelines running alongside as past and present.
Throughout the story we are led through the lives of the occupants of Newington House.
The characters are interesting and hold secrets which are revealed
Louise is great at creating tense but action packed thrillers and this is no different with interweaving stories which caught me out.
Brilliantly written characters brought this book alive and whereas the authors other books are psychological thrillers this had a paranormal element to it too which I loved.
Another fabulous read!

Awesome.
A manor house available rent-free to house-sitters is an offer too good to miss for Cass and James, who have been saving for a deposit on their own home for so long.
Although it had been abandoned for almost thirty years, after a home invasion left almost all the inhabitants dead, it is an amazing chance for them to build their future.
But is it worth the price? Shortly after moving in things take a sinister turn. Objects disappear and turn up in odd places, the clock always stops at the same time, the house is strangely oppressive and sometimes it feels like Cass and James are not alone. Newington House may have bad energy, and a dark reputation. But surely there’s no reason for history to repeat itself, is there?
Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for giving me an advance copy.
Many thanks to NetGalley,HQ and Louise Jensen for my ARC of 'The Intruders' in return for an honest review.
I have read many of Louise Jensen's novels and they are all great, including this one.
Cass and James move into a secluded house, rent free, while they try to save the deposit for their own house. James is the live-in caretaker. Cass finds out the house has a sinister past and things begin to happen.
Edge of the seat twists and turns.

The Intruders is a thriller novel by Louise Jensen.
I absolutely love this author's book and The Intruders certainly didn't disappoint. It had so many twists and turns that I kept reading until the AA I wanted to know what happened. The book was fast paced and it had an interesting mix of characters. I highly recommend it.
❤️ Thank you to netgalley, the author and publisher for my arc ebook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This book - wow!
The Intruders is set across two timelines.
Cass and James take up an offer to look after an abandoned manor house. These guys are looking to save up for their own house, so they think this is ideal. They discover the house was “involved” in a crime and they realise that things may not be as they seem. I won’t spoil the rest!
This book had me hooked, I had to keep reading. The twists, turns and spooky bits made me want to carry on!
Thank you to NetGalley/Publisher and Author for sending me this little gem!
It's always really disappointing when you're reading a book, it's all great - good pace, good sense of gothic atmosphere - you're really enjoying it and then inexplicably you're hit with a massive plot twist that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and ruins the whole story. Plot twists are great but not when they're so ludicrous that there's just no believing it would ever happen. The story turned far too extreme, there were too many coincidences, and too many people acting in ways that normal people just wouldn't behave. I also think it tried way too hard to push you into thinking the wrong thing, which kind of worked since I was misled, but I also felt like I was being unnecessarily smacked around the head at the end of every chapter with a big chunk of foreshadowing.
This was atmospheric, haunting, and so unpredictable!
It's impossible to convey how good this is without giving away more than I'd like to! If you can go into this knowing nothing at all, it's so worth it.
The identity of one of the main characters becomes somewhat obvious, but the real genius is in the further twists which follow. Cass and James are portrayed as genuinely good people, but no one is as they seem. The ending in particular is very powerful in this regard. The second half of the book moves at a rapid pace and there were a couple of moments where I had to stop and piece together what I was reading - just out of disbelief.
What an excellent read for my first ever NetGalley ARC! Thank you so much to NetGalley & HQ.
I devoured this! A brilliant and different story with the most unexpected twist at the end. Would highly recommend this book.
Wow just wow , what an amazing ride . Right from the start you’ll be hooked reading this book trying to figure out the story . I loved the characters and the way the story is woven between the two families. It might have taken the author 3 years to figure out the story but I’m glad she did in the end , it’s a brilliant read . Definitely recommend this book , 5 stars from me
STUNNING.
A book you cannot put down and a book that you never want to end, this chilling psychological thriller is so packed with twists it leaves you reeling with the turn of every chapter.
I’ve just finished reading it yet I have an urge to read it all over again as it is exquisite in its flawless storytelling, so atmospheric that the reader is transported into the house, an onlooker camouflaged within its walls, walls that hold secrets so well hidden you THINK you know them but you really DONT.
This is THE book that you are LUCKY to find, the kind that enables you to find a new go-to author, one that gifts you a back catalogue and judging by this, I will read every single one.
I LOVED this tale, was engulfed by its brilliance.
Five stars is the most we are allowed to give but it deserves so many more.
Ooo made the mistake of starting this in the middle of the night, a very creepy eerie story, but great, struggled to put it down and it came to a satisfying conclusion
This has easily got to be my favourite psychological thriller by Louise Jenson!
Lewington House is a house with a tragic past where the Madley Family were slaughtered in their home, only leaving behind the youngest child. No one knows why, no robbery took place and no witnesses were around.
Over 30 years later, the house has since been bought by a Retreat company and need a couple to be temporary 'caretakers' of the property while planning is approved.
James and Cass are early on in their fast moving relationship, wanting to love together but not financially able to do so, so when the opportunity comes their way, they'd be stupid to say no.. wouldn't they?
Both James and Cass have lost their mothers and it brings a bond that no one else would understand, including Cass's father.
Soon after Cass discovers she is pregnant, around the same time she starts noticing strange things happening. The grandfather clock always stops at 8.30, the landing window is always open bit ahead is sure she closed it. Her paintbrushes keep moving and she sees shadows in her peripheral vision. Is it the hormones? Is she going mad, again? Is someone watching her?
James also feels that things aren't as they seem but not in the way Cass does. It's not until he goes to speak to his father that things become a little clearer.
This is definitely what you would call a captivating read. From the very first chapter the author manages to create the most foreboding tension that creeps into your veins. Creepily atmospheric, it actually made my surroundings feel heavy around me.
Told from dual timelines of the past and present and from varying POVs, at times it might seem complicated but the twists and turns and amazing full 'whack'in the face ending was so worth it!
If you are after a tale that will have you second guessing everything, look no further. I thought I had it all figured out, more than once and each times I was totally wrong!
Huge thanks to Netgalley and HQ for the ARC.
I absolutely loved this book and it had me on the edge of my seat trying to work out what was going on.
Is Cass going mad or is there more to this big house than meets the eye.
4 stars
Thanks to the publishers and net galley for this arc.
The Intruders is set across two timelines. In the current, we follow Cass and James, a brand new couple, who take up an opportunity to 'caretake' an abandoned manor house. They are saving up for their own house, so this should be perfect, but when they learn that the house saw a violent crime around 30 years ago they realise that things may not be as they seem.
In the past, we follow Rose who tells the story of her family. Then the two timelines come explosively together.
I have never felt so on edge reading a book! The writing really had me hooked from early on and had such a creepy vibe.
I enjoyed the premise of this story and it was as good as I had hoped it would be. The story took a bit of a weird turn about three quarters of the way through, but it didn't put me off. Overall, I really enjoyed this one.
My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.
Cass and James want to move in together and the opportunity arises when they are offered caretaker jobs at Newington House it seems there dreams have come true but there is a downside as a family we’re murdered there many years ago. Cass is a bit wary as James has to go to work and she’s left on her own a lot mysterious things start to happen has she done the right thing moving there. It’s very intense and has you on the edge of your seat.
Thank you to Netgalley and HQ for an ARC
WOW WOW WOW! This was my first Louise Jensen book and it certainly won't be my last!
The Intruders is a nail-biting psychological thriller with INSANE twists that I never saw coming! The atmosphere that Jensen creates throughout the book is amazing. I thought part one was great, but I was not expecting the absolute whirlwind that arrived with part 2. I thought the plot was incredibly unique and I enjoyed reading the author's inspiration for the book at the end! The character POVs really added to the suspense and intrigue and I thought it was done spectacularly.
I loved the ending but it left me wanting MOREEEE (in a good way!) and I'm praying we get a sequel to this.
This book makes it evident that Louise Jensen is a master of creating red herrings and curveballs!
Thank you to Netgalley, HQ Stories and Louise Jensen for providing me with an Arc copy. You have gifted me one of my favourite books of 2024 so far!
I want to thank Netgalley, the publisher and author, for a free copy of this book. In exchange for an honest review.
James and Cass move into a house to become caretakers of the house. Ensuring any unwanted people stay out. Although this house has been empty for 30 years, when they move in, things start to get strange.
I loved the blurb of this story, and it sounded exactly what I was looking for. On starting the book, I felt sucked into the story straight away. I felt I got to know Cass quite well, but for me, there was too much internal dialogue that wasn't needed for her. Leaving feeling fed up of her thinking, almost. But I felt I didn't really get to know James that well. There were a lot of characters and jumping back and forward in time, which could get confusing.
This story had some good twists in part one. However, once part two started, I felt more confused as it went on. Things soon became clear, but it felt like it was two books condensed massively into one book. The ending I didn't see coming.
This is the first book I have read by this author. I will try more by this author, and it hasn't put me off. But I just feel this book wasn't what I wanted it to be.
Newington House is a house with a past, a house where the Madley family were horrifically murdered, it was over thirty years ago, but now Cass and James have agreed to house-sit in this same house. After travelling on the train and becoming a victim of theft by an unlikely fellow passenger, Cass starts to wonder if she has done the right thing, especially on her own while James has to work. When Cass is in the house on her own she starts experiencing some strange and unexplained things happening including the clock always stopping at half past eight, shattering lightbulb in the cellar, the swing in the garden moving of its own accord, the smell of lemons, her paintbrushes being hidden and her hearing Rose's name. Cass doesn't know if all these these are somehow related to the house's past or in her own imagination. Cass and James start to investigate the history behind the previous owners, the Madleys, Jess is always concerned about how this house is affecting their lives but James is always dismissing her fears. As this story pans out it is filled with secrets and lies
This is a really good story, yes it's fast paced with lots of secrets, twists and turns, its also captivating and will keep you up into the small hours, and I truly couldn't put it down. I thought I had worked what happened in the house and what was going to happen at the end, but I was so wrong! Another smash hit I'm sure for Louise Jensen with this book.
