I received an e-arc and audioarc through Netgalley all opinions are my own.
I thoroughly enjoyed book 1 and was really excited to read book 2.
I would have prefered a younger voice for the narrator. But otherwise I really liked the audiobook.
I enjoyed the plot and all the action in this book. I was a little confused since there was a lot of characters.
I really liked how we got more insight into Remys dad. Because in book was I really disliked him, but he wasn't that bad in this one.
Malekh is such a hater hahah I love it.
He really is a tsundere through and through😂
The romance was fine. I think it lacked some depth.
This was a very enjoyable read that really pulled me in, but I did prefer the first book.
*Spoiler thought*
Something confused me. Remy and Malekh often have sex, but then he gets confused and goes all blushing thinking about Xiaodan using a strap on. Does that mean that he doesn't actually bottom or top Malekh lmfao🤣
Court of Wanderers was an excellent sequel and I was utterly impressed by the twists and turns the plot took. Despite the somewhat slow start, the plot picks up and Remy's character development was good as ever. I like how this book had an excellent closure to the story which surprised me.
My favourite trio returns!!
I will admit, overall I did not enjoy this as much as the first book and found myself not quite as interested in the politics this time around. I think there were maybe just too many parties involved that made it a little more difficult to keep track, even though most were quite distinct. There were also some pacing issues that made it trickier to get through this, but when the pacing picked up, I was there for it.
Regardless of these issues, I absolutely adore Remy, Xioadan and Zidan. These three and their relationship make me *swoon* and say "I wish I had what they had". I had to stop multiple times just to sit and bask in their love. I would honestly love a short story compliation of moments throughout their relationship!
I think I kept with this story more for the characters (loved the return of my fave bestie Elke) and the ever-evolving dynamics rather than the overall plot. One thing I can't fault Rin on is creating multi-dimensional complex characters. The characters and their motivations, for the most part, are compelling and believable.
My rating would be a 3.5-3.75 but rounding up to 4 :)
Cannot wait to buy the newly announced special editions of this too!
I think this had a lot of potential but it was just not for me. The pacing felt a bit off and I couldn't really buy into any of the characters.
This was a steamy and satisfying ending to a really fun duology. I enjoyed the deep immersion we got here into the vampiric courts, and although there were certain elements of the plot that I found a bit confusing, overall the story was very compelling. The progression in the main relationship was well done and felt earned, which I appreciated. I also thought that some of the side characters had fascinating arcs that ended very well. Overall, this was an excellent conclusion and while I didn't love it quite as much as the first book, I still really enjoyed it and would highly recommend the series.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.
DNF.
Unlike book 1, this book was slower than a parked car.
I got about 40% into this with nothing happening apart from the 'bonk fest' on nearly every page. There was one point when one of the main characters disappeared, and I thought this is it, finally, something is happening, but no, they just went for a walk.
Thanks to Netgalley and publishers for the ARC
Unfortunately, this was not for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for the advance reader copy,
I went into this sequel hoping that the issues I had with the first book would be rectified but they weren’t.
There’s a lot of talking in this story and there are parts where it feels as though nothing has happened.
The idea that a vampire throuple could be boring had never occurred to me and then it has; there’s little progression as characters and it does feel as though Remy is still being used for his body.
I again found myself wondering how far through the story I was which isn’t the way you want to read a book.
I think Court of Wanderers is as good as Silver Under Nightfall. It definitely cleared up some questions I had, mainly about the Night Empress because I was like, you're basically 5 in vampire years, what are you doing.
Felt extremely satisfied with the answers I got.
I would say there was maybe too much of the Elder Pendergast, but also seeing more of him and the heartbreak he went through was interesting.
However!
My trio, my throuple, the triad of my dreams. Stunning. Just gorgeous. So sexy, so bloody, so beautiful.
I have high aspirations for their future. Their long, long, long future and ah!
I could scream.
After reading the first one I was ready to dive back into the story. This book didn't quite reach expectations for me, where the plot was good I just didn't feel there was enough development and depth in the relationship between the main throuple. Also for the main characters the story didn't give me much insight into their actual feelings about things going on more of just a run down of events. Not a bad read overall but I would of liked more.
Remy accompanies Xiaodan and Malekh, playing their part of a familiar as they venture into vampire court territory, determined to find a way to bring down the cruel Nightcourt and the chimera monstrosities running rampant and growing stronger.
I think I actually preferred the plot and pacing of this book than book one, which seems at odds with the rest of the reviews.
This was a bit more sexual than book one, but again, the scenes were fairly fade to black. But it was a lot more prominent as Remy plays the part of a pet or, what Xiodan endears, puppy.
Yeh, um, not for me. Keep it in the fanfiction.
Again, I have to express my disappointment for this series as I went in with such high expectations coming from her others books and hearing the hype it got on social media.
I just want to leave this last quote but basically sums up the series. Remy, I love you, but…
“Remy, I swear to every thing you consider holy that sometimes you are the densest person I have ever met.”
Thank you to Hodder & Stoughton for providing an arc in exchange for a review.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the digital ARC!
Silver Under Nightfall was one of my favourite reads of 2023, so to get the arc for the sequel was incredibly exciting. The world built in these books gives heavy Castlevania/Hellsing vibes, so if you like either of those then you'll probably enjoy this! The world itself is richly built, with the Courts all feeling distinct from each other and the nations further separate.
You might see other reviews complaining of politics in this book, and if you're not a fan of books like A Song of Fire and Ice, The Expanse, etc, then you probably won't care too much for this book. There is politics, but also plenty of action to be had! I, personally, really enjoyed it as I do love court intrigue and so forth. On top of this, it didn't feel too heavy handed, either.
Remy, Xiaodan and Malekh remained such fantastic characters. Their connections with each other remained sweet, and I love how Remy always amused Malekh. Their relationship felt natural in this, and my only complaint would be that they felt a little too damn horny sometimes. But I also understood that's the 'vibe' vampires give.
The other side characters were also interesting and well written, with characters from the past book returning and being given solid endings/closure. The newer characters were okay, but we never really got to get too into them.
My biggest criticism...is that I wanted more from the ending! I'd love to have a novella or something outlining what happens after...I just love them and want to find out more about them.
I'm usually a big fan of politics in fantasy books but not when it's at the expense of character development. I didn't care about any of the new characters that were introduced or the ones from book 1. I missed some of the atmosphere and vibe from the first installment as well. The relationships between characters were fine but honestly I didn't care about this new installment. 2 stars
