Someone in the Attic is a captivating, creepy, perfectly twisty thriller that will have you checking your attics and cupboards after dark.

I loved the intricate plot and character development. A lot of thrillers play on ‘who can you trust?’, but this upped the stakes by introducing characters so loveable I was scared to find out who the wolf in sheep’s clothing was. The premise of someone being in the attic is so terrifying and relateable, and as a reader I felt truly gaslit trying to understand what was real at all.

I loved the time and care that the author invested in the ending. It was much more than a flashy twist, and I found it so such a satisfying conclusion. The story was well written and fast paced, making this an easy, quick and engrossing read.

I’d highly recommend for anyone looking for a twisty thriller that keeps you guessing right until the end.

Thank you Random House UK and NetGalley for this book. Opinions expressed are my own.

You thought you were home alone. Think again.... Anya is enjoying a relaxing bath when she hears a noise in the roof. Through the open bathroom door, she sees the attic hatch swing open, and a masked figure drops to the floor. Thirty seconds later, Anya is dead. You're not afraid of being alone in the dark. You're afraid you're not alone. Across town, Anya's old school friend, Julia, sees online video of a masked figure climbing out of an attic. She suddenly realises why the footage is eerily familiar. It was filmed inside her house in a luxury gated community, designed to keep intruders out. And now her worst fears are coming true.

Julia and her family are back staying in Ireland in a gated community. Anya is having a relaxing bath when a masked figure drops down from the attic hatch. Julia is watching a disturbing video and soon realises that it's footage from her house.

There are plenty of twists and red herrings in this book. We also get some sub=plots that cover a lot of current topics. I was quickly pulled into this story. The suspense builds throughout. There's so much more I could tell you, but I you are better off reading this book with little or no information.

Another gripping read from Andrea Mara, this had me hooked from the start. Many twists and turns and just when you thought you had it all figured out there comes another curveball.

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

Not sure why I love books set in Dublin so much? But I do and when chose this book was pleased once again to be there, maybe coz have never been and love reading the descriptions of the City?, anyway the book…

3 life long friends all are re unioning when the story starts and it looks like someone or has scores to settle with them all…but is it all linked with the ‘Loft Craze’ ( very creepy indeed and will leave you to discover that nasty gem ) that is sweeping Tik Tok and impacting them…..and why are they being targeted?

It is a proper whodunit with many false leads, big red herrings and subtle yet very good twists that mean the story is never static as just as you think its maybe wrapped up you realise it isn’t

A posh gated community, jealousies, regrets, lies and secrets all involving a not always pleasant but very readable cast made this a fine read and once again satisfied my keenness for all things Dublin in a book, more than good read

I absolutely devoured this book, I read it in under 2 days! It was gripping and fast-paced, and has short chapters which something I love!

The book had me thoroughly creeped out and feeling on edge the entire time - I am now slightly scared for when I move house ... into a house that has an attic, unlike my current home!

I thought so many times that I had cracked it and figured out who it was, only for a curveball to be thrown at me and not have a clue. I did have my suspicions from the start but these were lowered when we were seemingly reassured about that character.

I’d definitely recommend reading this book - I’ve actually preordered it myself so that I can have a physical copy of it for my shelves & for my mum to read as she likes the same thrillers as I do!

Thank you so much Andrea, Netgalley and Random House UK for my advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review!

Wow! That first chapter definitely keeps you turning the pages to find out what is going on.
I absolutely loved this book. A atmospheric chilling, fast paced and gripping read. I couldn’t put it down. I was totally hooked.
The story follows Julia and her family who have moved back to Ireland after living in San Diego. And they think someone is hiding in their attic….
It’s full of suspense, secrets and red herrings that keep you guessing. I enjoyed the authors writing style as it has a brilliant flow to it and is super creepy and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The storyline is engaging with well written secretive characters.

I've liked all Andrea Mara's books but this is the best yet. I will even admit, up front, that the first night after I'd been reading it I had to go up to my attic (which is a bedroom) and I checked in ALL the cupboards. Yes, it's that creepy.

The story centres around Julia and her family who, through forced circumstances, are back in Ireland after living in San Diego. Ex-husband Gabe is happy enough because the new house in the gated community of Brentwood, has a studio for him to paint in. Youngest son, Luca, would be fine if he could find pizza like they did back home. However daughter Isla is really miserable- she's been dragged from her friends and the sunshine to a life in Dublin and if all that wasn't bad enough someone is putting creepy videos from inside her home on TikTok. Julia was happy enough to come back but that's before she sees the videos and finds out that her one time friend, Anya, is dead.

The rest of the book keeps on being as creepy as the start and Andrea Mara keeps the twists coming at a steady pace. She also manages to walk that fine line between believable and terrifying so well.

Of course I guessed whodunnit a good six or seven times (and believe me, some of the guesses were just plain crazy) but I got it wrong every time.

There's a nice small cast of characters which I also like. There were lots of twists but they all made perfect sense (once I'd worked out where I'd gone wrong), there's a nice dual timeline that explains the relationship between Julia and her longtime friends that adds to the plot.

It was all good. I was totally creeped out but after I'd read to halfway I really couldn't put it down so read it in 3 sessions over a couple of days.

Excellent. Highly recommended for existing fans of Andrea Mara or those who really love a good, twisty thriller.

Thankyou very much to Netgalley and Random House for the advance review copy.

Having read a couple of Andrea Mara books previously I was delighted to have been accepted to read this, her latest,
Without giving too much away, this was a chilling creepy read that's made me glad I haven't got a loft/attic. The thought of someone hiding up there and coming out whilst I'm asleep freaks me out, as much as it did Luca, Julie's son.
And in true Mara style my suspicions of the perpetrator were dashed many many times. A fantastic read

Great book.
Lots going on, I would not have guessed the outcome. Loved how at the end of the book, all questions I had got fully answered.

I really enjoyed this book! I look forward to reading other books by this author. There were so many twists in this book I didn’t see coming. But then again I rarely can figure books out. I would definitely recommend this book!

Thanks to Andrea and Netgalley for allowing me to read Someone in the Attic prior to the publication date.
The description of the book says it all and to elaborate would only lead to spoilers.

Told in 2 timelines, the reader gradually learns about each of the cast of characters.
As you would expect, Andrea has written a page turner of an exceedingly creepy tale

Well, Andrea Mara has done it again, I was expecting another brilliant thriller but this one takes her writing and the creep factor to a whole other level.

We meet Julia, a divorced mother of two who has just moved back to Dublin and is renting a home in the exclusive gated community of Brookfield in South County Dublin.

Her teenage daughter Isla, shows her a TikTok on her phone that's terrifying familiar, a loft hatch is opening up with a masked man climbing down into what looks like their home! Soon after, 9 year old Luca starts saying there's a man living in the attic who comes into his room at night watches him sleep!

Julia is left reeling and trying to figure out what is going on and how anyone could enter their gated community and her home. Is this an elaborate hoax emulating a popular show The Loft or could it be linked to the recent tragic death of school friend Anya, or another secret that she'd rather leave in their past?

Wow, this book had my heart rate racing sky high from page one of this terrifying plot! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough - there are twists and turns a plenty, and we have a couple of red herrings thrown in the mix as you try to figure out if there really is someone in the attic.

This book is the perfect summer read and I predict will be everywhere this summer, but be warned it's sure to put you off doing a clearout of your attic anytime soon.

Final thoughts: 💖 Loved it

This had me riveted from the get-go.
Anya is enjoying a relaxing bath with a couple of glasses of wine. Then bam! Anya is dead.
Julia's daughter has been receiving videos of their house on tiktok. Her son thinks someone is in the attic. Her ex-husband, Gabe, is acting a bit shifty.
As Julia and her school friend Eleanor try and work out who is behind the videos, there are a lot of revelations. Just as they think they've worked it out, they realise they gave it all wrong.
Andrea Mara's books are gripping. From the first page, she has you hooked. There are plenty of red herrings.
I really thought I'd worked out who it was, but I was totally wrong.
The other residents on the close are an interesting bunch.
Another fantastic read which I highly recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and Random House Uk for the ARC in return for an honest review.

Wow what a book. It has the right amount of creepiness that doesn’t make you really uncomfortable to a point were you can’t read it. Definitely will not be going into my attic any time so.

Dublin native Julia and her ex-husband and children have recently moved back to her hometown from the US. Her teenage daughter is furious about the move; her ex-husband (with whom Julia has a friendly co-parenting relationship - something I particularly liked about this book) is acting oddly evasive; and now, their new home, on a luxury gated estate, has started featuring in creepy videos on TikTok. So when Julia's son insists that a man has being coming into his bedroom at night, and Anya, a friend from her younger days, dies suddenly, Julia starts to wonder whether the videos are something more sinister...

As always with Andrea Mara books, the characters are well defined and sympathetic and the twists, while somewhat far-fetched at times, are fun and gripping. I would STRONGLY recommend not reading this if you're on your own at home; even with my partner in another room, I spent most of the book keeping one ear out for creaking floorboards.

As a recent newcomer to this Author, I was pleased to receive an ARC for this title after reading ‘none saw a thing’ in return for an honest review and how happy am I to write this!
Straight into the story we meet Anya, unfortunately not for long before terror strikes- description that has you gripped with fear and wanting to be able to fast forward to the end to see what happens!
It’s tricky to write detail as it will give away too many wonderful story twists and turns but this novel most definitely needs a read! It had me hooked from start to finish- the sub stories each bringing their own drama.
Loved, loved, it! Recommended to my reading group already!
Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Randon house for my ARC. Very much appreciated

Another fantastic book by Andrea Mara! It had me gripped from the very first chapter with phenomenal twists throughout! Highly recommend

I enjoyed this creepy tale. When Anya is murdered in the bath after someone jumps down from her attic there follows a series of copycat scares. A group of friends from years ago are affected by this series of events and we piece together the story from a series of flashbacks and to early years and recent events.
The story kept me interested throughout and kept me reading to find out, who, if anyone, was in the attic. Definitely a nice easy read psychological thriller.

I definitely recommend Andrea’s atmospheric novel. It’s packed with nerve shredding suspense, so don’t read it if you are alone in the house! Hard to put down this top class book.

Sneaky, sneaky Andrea!
This book is a bit of a slow burn to begin with and then as you’re nearing the end… BANG BANG BANG!! It feels like you’re in a boxing ring with Tyson Fury.

The storyline is creepy and frustrating, intoxicating and crafty.
You suspect all the characters at some point, like them all at other points and want to shake them all in equal measures.
Andrea Mara has done it again. Very clever. Highly recommended.
