Literally picked this book up in the morning and began to read it and before I knew it I was finishing it later that evening. Its that addicting, honestly I found this so hard to put down. Every page that went past, I was frightened, I was dreading what was coming next. I could never have predicted the outcome. I’m still in shock its crazy. The suspense oh my god!
The characters are so relatable and you can easily imagine yourself in their position. I just really felt for Simmy the main character, she seems like such a lovely person and you desperately want the best for her. You will definitely feel all the emotions with her.
Another thing I enjoyed about this book was the way it was based on a fortune teller. Now the whole fortune teller business frightens and intrigues me. I would never be able to visit one myself, I’d dread if there was anything bad they would say and I wouldn’t be able to enjoy life knowing the upcoming. I do believe its best not knowing but wouldn’t you just love it if you were to hear positive and exciting things that would happen to you.
The way the author has written this book is incredible, they know how to capture your attention and not loose it. I would definitely say this is got to be one of my favourite books ever! Will definitely be reading a whole lot more from this author and I can’t wait for the next book!
Wow! What a brilliant book!! Is it crazy to say this might be my favorite read of 2024 even though it’s only January? The suspense, the doubt, THE PLOT TWISTS!! I absolutely loved the characters, loved the story, loved everything about this book. This was my first by Natasha Boydell and now I am running to read more by her! 5 stars!!
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read The Fortune Teller by Natasha Boydell. I was not familiar with this author prior o reading this book, but I will b seeking her out for future reads. Fantastic!
First book from this author and I loved it! This story revolves around a woman who gets a reading from a fortune teller that could alter her life forever. The book was written very well and kept me reading and not wanting to put it down. Amazing book! 4/5 just because the epilogue ended on a cliff hanger with no next book announced. Overall great read!
"The Fortune Teller" by Natasha Boydell is a gripping narrative that masterfully intertwines themes of destiny, skepticism, and the unexplained. The story follows the protagonist, who, despite a forewarning of impending tragedy from a fortune teller, chooses to embrace love and build a beautiful family. The depiction of her life – safe, happy, and filled with love – paints a vivid contrast against the ominous prediction that lurks in the background.
Boydell excels in building a sense of foreboding, skillfully interweaving moments of domestic bliss with subtle, inexplicable occurrences that begin to unravel the protagonist's belief in self-determination. As strange events unfold, the protagonist's internal struggle becomes palpable. Her determination to protect her family from an unknown threat while grappling with the possibility of a predestined fate is portrayed with an intense emotional depth.
The narrative style is engaging, seamlessly transitioning between past and present, allowing readers to feel the protagonist's growing anxiety and doubt. The author's choice to leave the nature of the predicted tragedy ambiguous adds a layer of psychological suspense, compelling the reader to question whether the danger is real or a manifestation of the protagonist's fear.
Moreover, Boydell explores the impact of prophecy on human behavior and the power of suggestion in shaping our actions. The protagonist's journey, marked by a transformation from skepticism to fear, raises thought-provoking questions about fate and free will.
Overall, "The Fortune Teller" is a captivating read that combines psychological suspense with a poignant exploration of love and destiny. Boydell's writing is both evocative and haunting, leaving a lasting impression and a sense of unease about the unknown. This book is highly recommended for those who enjoy suspenseful narratives that delve deep into the complexities of the human psyche.
I LOVED this book! The writing style, the back and forth between characters, the relatability of the main character... All of it tickled my brain just right. Best book I've read in months!
What ride this book has been... like psychology is shit, man😵💫.
That's what I got to know today.
When I started this, it was good and so NORMAL, but just as the story rolled, it kept me hooked in my mind.. you know that kinda shit where you are like 'I can't read this but if I don't I won't be able to sleep tonight'. YES, that's what happened to me!
It was a heart gripping start of the year for me. After reading this, I am not sure I would like to diversify my bookshelf at this extent!!!
While reading, I was happy, like i said, being my normal but in the middle cried for her for no damn reason and at some point was so angry that my roomies were afraid to talk to me. Simmy and her POV just fucked my mind so easily.
After reading 90% of this book I was so sure to put this down but couldn't sleep with simmy on -- no, in (would be the right word) my mind so just thought of finishing it off, but man you need good psychic touch to read this otherwise you are fucked half through the book and other half is just the anticipation.
But the 2nd last chapter, the twist in the tail is Pure bliss, relief for not just simmy but the whole family, yes, that's what I felt, RELIEF for a character, that's what we bookish people do, Don't judge.
And what I actually learned form this book is You hold your own damn peace
Anyways Simple plot but the writing my God.
The writing steals the show. Author has not only Narrated the book fondly but also dived deep in one's mind which is phenomenal!!
A fast and fun read that I struggled to put down. I loved the suspense over the five year span and thought this was a very clever and intriguing idea. Four stars xx
This is a slow burn with a great ending. I enjoyed the buildup and the ending a lot. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC!
This was my first Natasha Boydell book and I am a fan! If you love slow burn books-this is for you!! I will recommend to my fellow booktokers!
Loved, loved, loved! It's very cleverly written so you can never be quite sure where the plot was going or whether it wad just a vase of an unreliable narrator. The plot is well plotted out with amazing twists you do not see coming. At all. My jaw was in the floor! Such a good book to start the year off in a high
The fortune Teller is a slow burn mystery that centres around deep seated paranoia that takes root as a planted seed and then grows into a large black mass overtime.
The story follows Simmy who goes to a fun fair with her group of girl friends and ends up visiting a fortune teller. The fortune teller gives her an ominous prediction into the future, telling her she will find her greatest happiness with marriage and children, but should she choose this path, after 5 years a tragedy will occur.
Simone dismisses it, yet the possibility takes root in her mind and she comes back to it time and time again, questioning over the years whether or not the fortune was legit.
This book is definitely a slow burn, we follow Simmy over the next 5 year span as we watch events unravel, and although it reads as a slow build up, the author did a great job of still making it interesting and addictive and causing the reader to be invested in seeing it through until the end. I definitely stayed up until 2am reading.
As time went on and Simmy got more and more paranoid I found myself getting frustrated on her behalf and just wanted to scream at her to chill out! There are a lot of Easter eggs along the way that hint towards what may really be going on, though the author is good at misdirection and making you question the true motives of more than one person in her life, leaving the possibilities open.
Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an early copy of this book!
I absolutely loved every minute of this book, I couldn't out it down, I just had to find out what this 'something bad' was going to be, definitely a recommended read.
I really enjoyed this book overall, it kept me hooked throughout! The twists and turns were exciting and very unexpected.
my first read. Of this author and I so enjoyed an amazing read it's an addictive read it has it all shocks twist a page turner of a book. four best friends Emily Helen Shiv Simone. this reading has an impact on Simone s life. She is told. Five years she will be happy in a marriage and then tragedy happens. Simone laughs at some of it but then she meets Jude. and then her old boyfriend tells her something. And it scares her. who do you believe and who do you trust I so recommend this book a twisty read
Simone goes to a fair with her friends. Some of them opt to see Mystic Maggie, a fortune teller. Simone is told she will meet someone, and she will be deliriously happy, but after five years, her happiness will end in tragedy.
Most of what she was told does happen, and then she starts stressing as the five years is almost up.
No one can convince her that the fortune teller was a fraud.
I enjoyed this book. It definitely was a slow burn. It was well written and kept me absolutely rapt, waiting to see if Mystic Maggie was correct in her prediction.
I liked the friendship that Simone had with her gang. But she definitely was a very gullible woman.
I personally don't believe in fortune tellers/psychics and the like, and would never put as much belief in their predictions as Simone has.
I don't think I would have ever guessed the twist, but I did not like the ending at all. If I were the author, I would have left that out.
Obviously can't say much, as I don't want to spoil the book for anyone, but the epilogue ruined the book for me.
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the digital ARC. Much appreciated.
The Fortune Teller
by Natasha Boydell
I am absolutely in love with the cover. I love the colours and how well it’s put together.
I was kind of excited for this one. Reading the Blurb I was kind of in between; this will either be a complete train wreck or absolutely awesome. While it’s not absolutely awesome, there is no sign of a train wreck. This was a really solid, good read.
Simone goes to a funfair with her friend, reliving their teenage days. They stumble across a fortune teller. While her friends are highly disappointed, Simone is frazzled. She is about to have to make a decision. Life a happy and content life or meet a handsome stranger, fall in love and have a child. But her luck will end after five years in tragedy.
Shall she keeps everyone she loves save or go for the happily ever after without the happily ever after?
These words are haunting her, but she lets them go when she meets Jude.
Is our destiny set in the stars or are we the masters of our own destiny?
Though this was less thrilling than I expected, it was really well done. I enjoyed the writing a lot and the story flows easily.
I did enjoy the characters who were three dimensional and very well rounded.
Arc received courtesy of Netgalley and Boldwood Books. I was under no obligation to share a review, all opinions are my own.
I wasn’t sure if I would like this book as I am usually not a fan of fortune tellers etc. I am so glad I gave it a chance cause I really enjoyed this told in two parts which kept the suspense going right up until the jaw dropping ending. It had many twists and turns which kept me glued to my kindle.
Simone is happily single when her and her friends visit a fortune teller Simone is told she is going to meet a man and be happy but in five years time a tragedy will happen which will alter her life. When Simone meets Jude she tries to put it to the back of her head but as the five years mark approaches she starts to think something is going to happen.
This was a fantastic thriller which I can’t wait to recommend thanks to netgallery and the publisher for my advanced copy.
⭐⭐⭐ Read for me
5 Star just for the Cover alone !!
If you LOVE Slow burn mystery's, then look no further because The Fortune Teller does a great job of character building and lack of thrill !
Simone and her friends are having a blast at a funfair when they stumble across Mystic Maggie the Fortune Teller and a few decide to have their fortune read .
When Simone learns of her future meeting a tall, dark handsome stranger and the pitter patter of tiny feet and that in 5 years time a life tragedy will strike . Simone is faced with a choice and if she wants to keep everyone she loves safe she should walk away from Mr. Handsome !
All Simone can think about is the words from the fortune teller and her friends tell her to let it go. When she meets Jude the man of her dreams , things spiral quickly and get heated fast, wedding, babies and all the while there is is a constant burning in Simmy's mind she can't let go... the words from the fortune teller to make a choice .
Will Simone let the fate of the fortune tellers words haunt her forever , or will she bury them and live her life without ever questioning that fun night out ??
I am glad I stuck this read out because the ending was definitely a surprise I did not see coming !
I think fans of B.A. Paris, Rachel Hawkins and Ruth Ware will enjoy this read .
