Huge thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read an advanced copy!

Unfortunately, I found this to be a slow burner and I wasn’t gripped by the story. However, things improved during the last few chapters.

A complex format with lots of characters mm, perspectives and timeline but well worth the investment.
The chapters keeps moving through a twisty plot where the secrets kept unravelling with twists and turns to an explosive ending.
I love all of Lucy's books and this is no exception

Thank you to NetGalley for giving the opportunity to read this book.

This story follows 4 main characters. Francesca - who owns The Manor (a high end retreat), Owen - Francescas husband, Bella - a guest, and Eddie - the kitchen help. They are all present for the opening weekend of the retreat, but each have secrets which will blow the whole weekend open.

This story is told from multiple viewpoints and two timelines. I really enjoyed how the story was written as we get to see each side of the characters, who were very well developed and interesting, and so completely intertwined. The story was full of twists and turns, and lots of little red herrings. The author really ups the atmosphere throughout the story, and it reaches an explosive ending. This author also offers us great murder mystery books, and this one was no different.

I cannot explain how excited I was to receive an ARC of Lucy Foley's newest book. After Hunting Party and Guest List, I knew it would be a fun ride.

The book follows a dual timeline in which we meet several of the same characters, unravelling in tandem the shock conclusions and, subsequently, how they are linked. Mild spoilers ahead, so beware.

Firstly, this book did not immediately grip me the way I was expecting. However, I was in a bit of a reading slump and I'm unsure it was the book or me, so I powered through. Around the middle, when the majority of the characters had been established and there was a bit more happening, I felt more compelled. However, I still don't think I was as engrossed as I thought I would be. I really enjoy Foley's characterisation and twists, typically. I love that it isn't usually too easy to figure out the final reveal. But this time, I wasn't that bothered about trying. In the present timeline, we're aware something has happened at an event and there's at least one casualty. In the past, we're building up to a Big Event, while navigating the vaguely supernatural presence of The Birds.

Honestly, the thing with the birds could've been so much more interesting. I really like the reveal of who/what The Birds ended up being, but it didn't feel relevant enough. I didn't believe that you know who would slip on the costume and give chase... After a half-baked reveal. It felt clunky with what was a good set up.

I did enjoy the book, overall, but I was perhaps expecting too much of it.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

I loved this and read it in a day and half, beautifully written and I’m still thinking about it, a must read.

This was a fun read which kept me guessing until the end. I’ve read a couple of the authors previous books and was looking forward to this one.

The story is told in multiple POV which is always a big plus for me. The timeline also switched back and forth slowly unfolding the secrets hidden within the Manor.

I loved the setting of the Manor with the opening being on Solstice. The locals aren’t happy and is there something lurking in the woodlands?

I switched between listening to this via audiobook and reading the hardback. Thank you to Harperfiction for sending me a copy.

When I tell you I INHALED this entire book. From the moment I started it to the last page I could NOT put this book down. At the beginning it definitely took me a second to get into the story but once I did it was absolutely worth it. Lucy Foley is a master in every facet but especially when it comes to multiple POV. It added so much dimension to the story & helped tell it in such a creative & consuming way. Being able to spend time with each character in their POV was so much fun & really had me trying to put together the puzzle pieces. Although I did try the twists in turns in this story were absolutely unpredictable in the best way possible. It kept me on my toes from beginning to end.

Lucy Foley, who is a master of the modern mystery thriller world is back with a new book - " The Midnight Feast". Lucy has the ability to engage audience with multi-POV narratives. With her previous bestselling works like The Guest List or The Paris Apartment, Foley has deep understanding of storytelling.

"The Midnight Feast" is a thrilling, dark novel set up during the grand opening of the Manor owned by Francesca Woodland. The book is written in short chapters with conversations and introductions to various characters like Francesca, her husband Owen, then you have a mysterious guest Bella and our very own young kitchen worker Eddie. As the plot deepens, you definitely keep thinking about the various shades of characters. With a plot filled with suspense, secrets and past tragedies, the celebration takes a deadly turn. The addition to this is also how Lucy used the local folklore of the ominous legend of the Birds adds a touch of supernatural atmosphere.

Welcome to the Dorset Coast and the opening of an exclusive spa experience, with all the glamour and elegance to bring the famous and infamous flocking to The Manor House.

Lucy Foley does it again with a cast if characters I was intrigued to know more about and the twist and turns of their stories. I could not put this book down.

The narratives switch between charcaters and the in time, taking us back in time and how they all have a connection to the house itself. I loved the beautiful descriptions of the coast line, contrasted with the reality of locals living in the area. Bringing in local lore to a dramatic end.

Thank you Harper Collins and NetGalley for the eARC for review. This was the prefect weekend read.

I came into this book with super high expectations after giving Lucy Foley 5 stars multiple times before. However, I had nothing to worry about. I found this book incredibly easy to fly through and gripped me throughout. I decided to give this also 5 stars because of the twists that surprised me, the easy but tense writing and the way Lucy Foley is able to create character dynamics and relations you don't see coming.

When Francesca Meadows decides to convert her family home into a luxury hotel, the opening weekend promises to be a spectacle. But The Manor is hiding many dark secrets, and with the locals up in arms about the closure of local woodland, nothing is going as it was planned.

I’ve read several of Lucy Foley’s novels and The Midnight Feast is another cracking story. Her characters are all hiding secrets from their pasts, and gradually they all intertwine to tell the story. The action jumps around over the course of the Solstice weekend, plus jumping back to events 15 years previously. I will admit to getting a little confused over all the characters and how they relate to each other and the plot, but thankfully everything is explained by the end.

A gripping thriller and great read

I always enjoy Lucy Foley's books and this one was no exception. She is really good at setting up the scene with a range of mysterious characters and in this one she has once again created a wonderful sense of place with the manor hotel, woodland hutches and so on. Full of twists and turns, and very creepy and macabre in places, this is sheer escapism. A perfect holiday read.

Set at a newly opened exclusive wellness retreat, it is immediately clear that there is conflict brewing. The locals despise the wellness retreat and its owners for blocking them off from land which they see as belonging to the community, and the author uses pagan and folklore elements to increase the general sense of unease and to hint that something very bad is about to happen. The number of POVs and the time jumps between present and past made it harder to follow the story until it all comes together more in the final third of the book when the links between the people in the present day and the flashbacks became clearer. Because this did slow down the pace of the book for me and because I felt that many of the characters had quite similar voices, I've subtracted one star but it was nonetheless an enjoyable read.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the advance copy in return for an honest review.

What a fantastically versatile author Lucy Foley is! Whereas her previous thrillers ‘The Guest List’ and ‘The Hunting Party’ took the discerning readership to the much colder climes of Scotland and Ireland, and ‘The Paris Apartment’ provided a detour to the French capital city, ‘The Midnight Feast’, her latest offering, accompanies us to a tranquil and beautiful setting on the Dorset coast. It is here that local property developer Francesca aspires to open a luxury resort hotel. Drawing on a privileged, often demanding clientele, not dissimilar to the characters from her previous novels, is challenging enough, but soon Francesca finds out that her problems are compounded by old rivalries, overblown expectations and murderous thoughts that erupt at her meticulously planned summer solstice party … As ever, Lucy Foley writes beautifully and poignantly and shines a clear spotlight on human frailties and entitlements. Highly recommended! Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the free ARC granted in recognition of this honest and unbiased book review.

Written in Lucy Foley's signature style, this engrossing whodunnit brings together a group of people, with grudges, changed identities and dark secrets in their past, in a fabulous location where tragedy strikes. The backstory unfolds through different viewpoints and a teenager's diary. I loved the self-obsessed and unaware Francesca, and enjoyed seeing how the truth was revealed in this spooky, atmospheric story
