Clover Hendry decides to ditch her worries and take a day off after a rough morning involving a migraine, too many painkillers, and a bump on the head. Leaving work at 9:47 am, Clover dives headfirst into a day of pure, unplanned chaos. From a daring swim to accidentally getting involved in art theft, she's on a mission to do whatever she wants, leaving consequences for tomorrow. Behind all the craziness, though, a deeper plan starts to emerge, hinting at long-buried secrets. This fun, rebellious story is all about taking a break, doing what makes you happy, and getting back at life in your own way.

Clover is a 46 year old mother and TV producer. Her life is busy and she's constantly on the go, doing everything for everyone. Until one day she wakes up with a migraine and says f*ck it... Just for one day she is going to do what she wants.

I loved this book. It's witty, heartwarming and maybe a little crazy at times. Clover's story is so relatable and thought provoking. How many women temper themselves for the sake of not upsetting anyone, to keep the peace or even to protect themselves? I think we've all had days where the little things could send us over the edge and the feelings we've been suppressing could suddenly explode! We've all had days when we should be more Clover.

My thanks to Harper Collins UK for providing me with an early review copy.

Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book.

I enjoyed this book, admittedly it took me a bit to get into it, but then when I did, I devoured. I probably enjoyed the last 20% the most.

Laugh out loud story about a married mother of two who gives herself a day off; both from work and from being nice. I had to read the wedding scene twice because it was so funny that I was crying, but there are so many wonderful bits in here. I highly recommend reading it for giving yourself some time off for a good laugh.

Ever woken up one day and just thought f**k it, I'm going to do what I want, say what I want and no one better get on my bad side? Well, that is the premise for this book and maybe we should all be a bit more Clover.
Clover is 46, she's a bit of a people pleaser, but she definitely isn't today.
I just could not put this book down, I wanted to find out what she was going to do next and yes, I kind of wanted to be her a little tiny bit.
The book is mainly set over the course of this one day and blimey, did the MC fit a lot in.
I loved this for Clover, I enjoyed the story and the overall outcome. It's a highly entertaining, mid 40s nod to Ferris Bueler.
Definitely recommend picking this one up.

Lucky Day by Beth Morrey is simply a delight. The tagline " Can she say F*ck it , just for one day " tells you that this is a book for every reader who has woken up one morning fed up to the back teeth of their daily grind, and wishes they could just ignore their responsibilities in favour of fun for just 24 hours.
Clover Henry has had enough and today she is definitely not herself - it started with a migraine, then some rather strong (if a little out of date) painkillers which were kicking in before she suffered an accidental bump on the head. This was the final straw and so Clover decides that she is desperately in need of a personal day and walks out of work less than an hour into her day. What follows is a series of capers that will have the reader in stitches , from apparent vandalism in a museum to an impromptu swimming session at a private club and even some questionable hair related decisions. It is impossible as a reader not to cheer her on, and I am sure there are many of us out there who could do with learning a lesson from Clover.
This book made me laugh out loud but it also occasionally made me furious as I followed Clover on her adventures and learned about events in her past that still held her in a prison of sorts and I think it really speaks to the author's skill that she is able to balance the humour with more serious topics without ever trivialising them.
I feel like this is a book I will reach for again when I am in need of a literary pick me up, and I can think of a few friends whose lives would be improved by spending a little time with Clover.
I read and reviewed an ARC courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher, all opinions are my own.

Clover is definitely not feeling herself. She has a migraine , taken painkillers and been knocked out.
In a morning meeting she walks out and decides to take charge of her life. All the things she has ever wanted to say and do and forget the consequences.
Tomorrow is another day but what happens when it arrives?

I loved "Saving Missy", so was looking forward to reading this novel.

However - although I read to the end - I didn't enjoy it at all. I didn't like any of the characters, and felt that Clover's behaviour was unpleasant and not entirely believable.

So it's just a "meh" from me I'm afraid.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC. All opinions my own.

I absolutely loved this book. I couldn’t put it down. A book about putting life on pause, pleasing yourself and getting your own back. It’s just brilliant. This was my first time reading @bethmorrey and it won’t be my last.
For Clover Hendry, Today the rules don’t apply. Her morning starts off with a migraine, taking out of date painkillers and bumping her head. She walks out of work, not worrying about the consequences. She is going to life for herself and take the day off. If only for one day.
It’s brilliantly written. It made me smile and laugh out loud. I loved Clover’s character, who’s funny and relatable. All the characters are great in their own different ways. I liked the flashbacks from her childhood and earlier career life, these add to the story. It’s heartwarming and moving. The story just pulls you in. I also liked the setting of Bristol, my hometown.
Overall, an uplifting and inspiring read. Definitely recommend this one.
With thanks to #NetGallery #HarperCollinsUK @harperfiction for an arc of #LuckyDay in exchange for a honest review.
Book publishes 20 June 2024.

Oh my goodness. I was so ready for this book!
Recently I said to a friend, wouldn't it be great if just for one day you could really tell people what you thought of them and do what the hell you wanted without any repercussions...
Well, of course there will always be repercussions, but this book played out that idea in the most entertaining way.

I loved Saving Missy and Em and Me, the author's two previous books, so I was delighted to be able to read an advanced copy of Lucky Day.

Full of warmth and wit, we follow Clover Hendry as she temporarily throws off the shackles of marriage, kids and work commitments to navigate a day of saying 'what the f**k.'
We learn why Clover is put upon and why she struggles to say no and I was firmly on her side. I was cheering her on the whole way through this well paced book
Hugely entertaining and an uplifting read with a satisfying ending.

Thank you to NetGalley, to Beth Morrey and to Harper Collins for the opportunity to read this advance copy.

'Usually, life is just an endless treadmill of toil and transport and catering interspersed with the toss and turn of sleep'.

Middle-aged, TV executive producer, Clover Hendry is plagued by anxiety and overthinking. Permanently scared of doing the wrong thing, she's spent her life as a people pleaser. And by people pleaser, I mean doormat: over-extended at work and undervalued at home. One morning, as a tension headache builds as the day begins, Clover decides to take a Vicodin in the hope of making it stop. Suddenly, a weight lifts, her brain stops its repeating cycle of impending doom. Suddenly, she just says 'f*ck it', 'I want delicious food, and delicious freetime , and delicious me-time'. Armed with this new attitude, hilarity ensues but the more lippy grenades she sets off, the more we realise that all this pent up emotion stems from events long ago, and as the emotional outfall crashes down, it becomes clear what Clover needs to do.

Lucky Day is filled with absurd hilarity tempered with a real-life resonance for many women who stretch their time taut and ameliorate their personality to such an extent, they forget who they are, 'My innate fear of rocking the boat condemned me to a life of tiptoeing around, polite smile plastered on, apologizing and throwing my cloak on the floor for everyone.' At times, the pacing was a tad slow for me but I certainly appreciated living vicariously through a woman who just wanted to say 'f*ck it' for one day!

This book is easy to dip into and the main character, Clover, is very relatable. The storyline spans one ubiquitous day when she abandons her default people-pleasing routine in favour of a more assertive ( and at times, outright demanding) approach. As it turns out Clover is a badass at heart 💪🏻
Although I couldn't help thinking that maybe she just needed a holiday 🏖️

As I adored saving Missy I was over the moon to be offered the chance to read this new book by the same author - and she doesn't disappoint!
Lucky day was an absolute tonic to read and had me laughing out loud on many occasions.
Clover is a wonderfully written and relatable main character (it's so refreshing to have a main character in her 40's - we need more representation)
Whilst the storyline is so very humorous, it's also a tale that has some heartfelt and heartwarming moments, plus a sprinkle of some very raw and heartbreaking emotions.
It was a joy to read - and I think many of us would absolutely love to stick a finger up at the world and experience at least some of a day like Clover!
Huge thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc ebook.

I made it halfway and am just not remotely compelled to read another page. The writing is witty and warm but the story isn’t at all of interest.

If you could have just one day to do and act as you pleased what would you do?

This was a really great, funny read with very relatable characters and something that every reader has probably wanted to do at some point.

I really enjoyed Beth Morrey’s previous book Saving Missy and this was just as well written and very enjoyable.

Remember the film Falling Down? This book reminded me of this but with much less violence, and a woman having a bad day.

Clover is a woman in her forties, working, married, mum to teenage twins, sister and daughter to estranged parents - she’s got a lot going on. So when she starts with a bad day involving blacking out on her journey into work, her day can’t get any worse….can it?

Clover has a day to remember, involving many unexpected events occurring.its hard to hint without giving too much away but Cliver is a brilliant lead character for this book.

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and review.

LUCKY DAY

Author Beth Morrey has absolutely mastered the art of witticism within this novel.

With Elenor Oliphant Is Completely Fine mixed with A Man Called Ove vibes, Lucky Day is a life affirming novel that is near impossible to put down.

This book is balanced out with an array of various emotions really making the novel relatable.
It had me laughing out loud on numerous occasions. And dealt astonishingly well with “real life” issues.

A great book and highly recommended if you’re in the need of a bit of a pick me up.

This was a great break from my usual thriller reads. So thank you #netgalley and the publishers #HarperCollinsUK for my eArc copy in exchange for my honest review.

Absolutely loved this book and concept. A truly uplifting book that makes one feel good. If only we could all just speak our minds freely. I chuckled as Clover went about her day doing what she pleases and saying no to stuff she doesn't want to do. I especially laughed when she decided to go swimming in her pants and bra. And why not! Clover resonated with me as we are of a similar age and family dynamics and just sometimes we should put ourselves first and go where the wind blows us! It was interesting to see who her allies were as her day progressed. I have enjoyed all of Beth Morrey's books and this is going to be another winner. Thank you Netgalley and Harpercollins for the opportunity to read it.

Clover Hendry, wife, mother, and TV producer, is constantly on the go, doing everything for everyone, it's the only way she can guarantee that things are done correctly. When her morning routine seems to go from bad to worse she tells her boss exactly what she thinks of him and his meeting and takes off for a day of "What ifs?".

Beth Morrey has written some of my favourite heart-warming books in recent years so I was keen to read her latest novel, Lucky Day. In her previous two novels, Beth Morrey focuses on a central character who, through the help and support of a wider community, is able to find their place in society. This time around the central character, Clover, uses her own knowledge and skills to finally say "Enough is enough".

Clover's day doesn't start well, her husband has put the forks the wrong way up in the dishwasher. As with many of this kind of story, it's something utterly trivial that is the catalyst, the final straw. The dishwasher saga, combined with a headache, means Clover just knows it's going to be a bad day. Her tendency to catastrophise things results in her getting a bump to the head as she flees her train. When her boss holds one of his interminable meetings Clover can't take anymore and walks out of work.

With her newfound honesty and assertiveness Clover sets off on a day of adventure, one in which she refuses to accept any bullshit. We follow Clover through some hilarious situations where she speaks her mind. I admired Clover and her brutal honesty, along with her refusal to be patronised. The swimming pool scene was side-splittingly funny, the reactions of the staff were just so believable. As for the dress shop, I had "Pretty Woman" vibes as I cheered Clover on.

The old Clover was a doormat, sometimes it was easier to do things herself, rather than delegate, because she knew that the task would be done correctly. At other times, it was simply because she was too nice to be assertive. Her boss took advantage of these characteristics by piling extra work on her. Combined with members of her team not pulling their weight it was always going to lead to one thing and it was brilliant to witness Clover's epiphany.

By the end of the day Clover is able to settle a few scores and realises that going forward, she needs a mixture of the old and the new Clover.
