Much like one of the plots in the story, this book could use a lot more editing and revision. What on earth was the publisher thinking? First, you're dropped directly into book two without a lot of info about book one and it's poorly done. It seems like this story is going to be about Taylor, the youngest sister, but instead, it's about all 3 sisters and 1950's stylings of the town. Taylor is described as young and naïve and comes across exactly that way. However, she's already a successful novelist with her own condo in NYC but she's struggling to create characters and a story for a new book that seems more like its a debut. It's as if a whole chapter got edited out. She's got no relationship history of her own and has no idea how to write about characters falling in love - but she's already an established writer. Of what? No answer there. Suddenly she's in love with the guy she was insanely over-sensitive about and yet they are both so immature that it makes no sense for them to be together.

Then there are the crazy side plots: ghost in a cottage with an old wedding dress and baby clothes in storage. Or how about the insane ex-sister-in-law of another character who is throwing herself at men and sneaking around in rooms at the assisted living facility she works in? Taylor catches this woman alone in her grandmother's room and doesn't immediately report it to the staff or tell her sisters?

I wasted my time so you don't have to.

Three sisters and two romances make for an interesting read. Jumps between characters at times, but still works. While not my favorite it was good read and one that I would recommend. A nice summer read.

Taylor Gilford is an author, and when she gets a phone call from Thompson C. Walker, aka Cooper, who is her publisher's new editor, it does not go well. His critique makes her lose her confidence, and she can't see beyond the hurt of his words.
When her agent and his publisher, tells them they can't come back to work until they work together, and get the book done, or they will have no job, they have to decide if they can work together.
It is the 4th of July, with the community coming together to celebrate. They agree they won't discuss the book until after the 4th. They work on getting a float ready, and she shows him around town, they hang out, and it appears they might be able to do it.
He believes in her story but thinks it needs more depth. They decide to work together, and find a way to get along, and he wants to understand the people in her story. It is an adventure, the things they try to make this work, there is so much more to this story with the families, maybe a ghost, a woman that was in book 1 is back, and it captured my attention from the first page to the last. This was book 2 in the Lilac Lake Inn series, and it can be read as a stand alone, but it is such a good series that I recommend you read the first one.
