Review to come early Feb on blog/other places.

I received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.

When I saw some new manga on Netgalley I was pulled towards this one. That cover looked so cool and I loved the blurb. I could definitely use a more action-packed manga in my life.

Meet Rudo. He lives in the slumps and isn't having the best life. He gets bullied/shunned because his father was a murderer/killer (or well, so they say but given everything in this manga I do have some doubts/questions about that). He patches up garbage from the rich side, yes, garbage. But if you see how these rich people treat their items you will find out quickly that for the rich people trash means that an item has a little bit of damage, like the bunny plush that was thrown away because it had a tear. Yes. You can imagine there is "garbage" everywhere. I loved that Rudo would go over to the richer side and steal garbage. And he wasn't just searching for items to fix, but he himself also was taking very well care with his own items. I really liked Rudo from the start. I was rooting for him to get a happier life. Sadly, I knew that wouldn't happen any time soon.

Because quite soon things go wrong and Rudo is send over the cliff of the slums down below. A place no one ever comes back from. And well given the twist we get + what we see wandering and stalking these grounds + how Rudo's kind is treated there it is no wonder that no one comes out alive. I was already invested in the story but with this new world + the revelations of Rudo's world + some kick-ass scenes? I was even more invested and I was on the edge of my seat reading. It was just so cool and I love seeing various powers come to play all working with the mechanic of if you have loved your items enough they will get a soul. Which made me think of items in my home and wonder about what powers they would have given me if I was in this world.

I am really impressed with this first volume + I also love the art in this one, it really fits the story and I love how dynamic it is. The action scenes really come to life.

I am quite invested in this story, especially after that cliffhanger, so yes, this girl will keep on reading! I need to know more about this world, about the place our MC came from, and what kind of cool things people can do with beloved items! I would recommend it if you are looking for an action-packed manga.

Want to thank Netgalley and publishers for giving me the chance to read this book.

What a great Shonen. I loved the story and, to me, how different it is. I really like the MC. I think he is a scrappy punky teen. It is clear he has some learning to do but he catches on fast. It goes at a steady pace. Nothing feels rushed or too long. And honestly, I NEED to know more. Def going to be picking up volume 2 soon!

If you like Naruto and Black Clover then I really think you will like this as well.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC for an honest review. Gachiakuta has it all--unique art, action-packed fighting scenes, and a protagonist we want to root for! Rudo is betrayed by society when falsely accused of murder and exiled into an unknown land. Discovering he has powers as his treasured gloves have a soul, he's more determined than ever, and we can't help but cheer him on.
The art style is one I don't see often in manga, but it's perfect for the setting and facial expressions of the characters.
Overall, I enjoyed reading volume 1 of Gachiakuta and can't wait to start the next volume!

I think we need to know more about what's going on but this was a great introduction to this world. Our hero steals trash until the bad things happen to make the action start -- I want to know more about all of that, and about the magic system.
And I'm willing to learn more because the illustrations were great, the premise was interesting, and the atmosphere was bleak. The whole thing was intriguing.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

Very good. Unique setting and magic system for sure. I like the art, the characters, and the story! Awesome!

A set up for a new series. Our main character Rudo, steals trash to make it better. One day, he comes back to find his father figure dead. He is framed for the crime and thrown off into the pit for his crime.

You can tell the author worked for Atsushi Ohkubo in the style of the fights and some characters since they can remind the reader of Soul Eater and Fire Force but Kei Urana has her own flavor and the action is fun to follow.
Action packed and mildly gorey, will be following this series as it grows.

Gachiakuta is amazing and something totally different. Our main character is Rudo, who lives in the slums and who's dad was a killer. He is despised and he collects trash, since most of it isn't trash and you have to appreciate things and then perhaps they get a soul. He's accused of killing a person eventually and thrown into the pit. It's a large garbage dump and soon he discovers he has powers, he has given a soul to things. The setting is super exciting and I personally love the idea of appreciating things up to a point of them getting a soul. I hate it how our culture is just constant consumption. I also enjoyed the revenge part and the mysteries too, like the place itself and Rudo's father.

The art looks amazing, really. It's individual and the view angles make the story roll like dices. The thick black line art and movement are a good combination as well as Rudo's expressions that are sinister at times. I really need to keep reading this, since I want to know what happens. Such a great opening and dark like no other. The finger eating is superb!

I absolutely adored this Manga it had lots of elements from monsters, magical systems that was intreasting to a cool backstory. I would live to read the next book in the series as I am now hooked as I adored the art style the main character was cool and the magical system is intriguing. This is defiantly an original twist in a majorly dominated industry congrats

Interesting premise and great character design but the plot moves swiftly and left me disoriented throughout.
Still it's easy to read and you get through the volume quickly. The motives of the MC are clear and understandable and the mystery is intriguing enough to pick up future volumes.

Thanks to Netgalley for this arc in exchange of an honest review.

Rudo is a trash stealer, and the son of a killer in a land that trash is all over the place but still has value in the holy land. People judge him because he is part of the tribes folk. Stealing trash is illegal here, mainly because some of the things have value and can be sold for money. There is a “hell” (called “the pit”) and a holy land (called “the sphere”) and Rudo ends up in the pit and has to find a way to escape. This first manga explains the world and what happens to Rudo for how he ends up in the pit, and how he needs to escape from there so he can go back to the sphere.
To be honest, the plot is kind of hard to explain because it has a lot of info in only a short amount of pages, but feels like it’s been rushed. The art style was great in certain pages but some others look like there wasn’t much time put into the drawings.
I think volume 2 will explain more and be fleshed out just a bit more, and this reads like a very popular shonen manga and I think with certain audiences it will be a big hit. Unfortunately it just wasn’t really for me, but I might check out volume two to see if things develop.
Thank you to netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Rudo lives in a slum hovering above a city, where the wealthy discard their waste into the depths below. Falsely accused of murder, he faces exile into the abyss, where he encounters monstrous creatures. To seek justice and uncover the truth, he must harness a new power and join the Cleaners, a group fighting the monstrous trash beasts.

It's very much giving Elysium vibes. I'm unsure what I expected when I requested this from NetGalley. I was intrigued by the concept, and the art for Volume 1 gave off the dark vibe I tend to enjoy. Volume 1 is just the setup for the series with all the world-building and getting to know the protagonist.

I'm reminded a little of Akame ga Kill. I thoroughly enjoyed Akame ga Kill so that's not a bad thing. Weapons with superpowers are always awesome. Kei Urana was an editor for Fire Force, and the influence of style is there. The art style is good, but the dramatized angles aren't my favorite. The first few chapters are slow, but it picks up once Rudo is thrown into the Pit. Overall, it's a good start to the series. I would definitely have started this if I'd seen it in one of my manga apps. I'm interested in seeing what's next.

Thanks to netgalley for letting me preview this manga.
The drawings are truly unique as is the story.
Original and at times a little confusing in this first volume, not that I expected all the answers right away. The involvement of garbage is interesting.

However, the story didn't move me that much, I don't think it's my genre, I don't think I will continue reading the next volumes.

Now this is the kind of story I love to read. It's action-packed, imaginative, bold, and thinks outside the box. The main character Rudo, has it rough. It seems like everything is against him, and nothing will ever get better, for either him or his friends. When he's accused of killing the one who raised him, he is thrown off his present world and lands in a stinking heap of garbage, called The Pit. You see the emotion, the humor, the realness in the character and it makes me root for him. I don't mind at all that this is only the first part of an up and coming series. I think it has the marks of a bestseller. Highly recommended.

Gachiakuta is the start of a new series by Kei Urana. I would give 3.5 stars. I would recommend others to try out this manga.

The art work was on par with many of the contemporary manga that’s out currently. The story is unique where objects can develop a soul based on how it’s cared for by its owner. Some things develop strong powers, while others are more nefarious. This concept resonated with me since I had a tendency to anthropomorphize things when I was a child and those habits die hard.

I also appreciate the deeper story of consumerism and waste that the human race is falling deeper into. That we’re so wasteful towards everything including people.

The dialogue was lacking. Much of it felt as if it was written by a nine year old boy. I’m not sure if that was on purpose to show the immaturity of the MC or if something was lost in translation. Overall, this manga was well done and I’m curious to what happens next. I don’t have the highest hopes for the series but I would love to be proven wrong.

Rudo has a code. Treat all things, even possessions, with care and one day the object may be imbued a soul. This peaceful code was taught to him by his mentor who raised him after his father was thrown in the pit when Rudo was a child for murder. History has a way of repeating itself and Rudo ends up thrown in the pit accused of murder as well. What he sees down there will change his life forever.

I enjoyed this first installment, and I am curious enough about the progression of the story to read Vol 2 if I get the chance.

Out of Context Emojis: 🚮🐇🧤🌂😼

Ok, the setting is super interesting and has vibes of Midgar from FF7 which immediately drew me in. Art was great and the character designs were unique.

I was totally not expecting where this was going to go. Wasn't able to put this down and ready for volume 2 already, need to see more of the Cleaners and what'll happen to Regto next!

The first volume of Gachiakuta follows mostly the familiar shounen manga formula of an outsider protagonist scowled by society, who develops unusual powers, If you've read any shounen from the last 10 years, you are probably aware of how it goes. However, Gachiakuta stands out with a unique setting or a wasteland covered in trash and a recognizable art style. The characters are good, but we still need to learn more about them to decide if they are great. Each of them has a distinct design and they are easy to tell apart, which is a huge plus. Depending on where the author takes the story, it may become another beloved shounen. I personally really enjoyed it and I can't want to see how Rudo's story develops. If you are a fan of shounen manga and are looking for something new in the genre, look no more.

This digital ARC was obtainable via NetGalley for an honest review!

"Gachiakuta vol 1" has a unique and fresh concept. The world building explained in this first volume was beyond my predictions. I feel like the power scaling will be very fun to get into! The mysterious character, Enjin, piqued my interest immediately (basically, he's kinda hot)! I am also loving the character designs. I will be looking out for the next volume!

Short summary: kid from the segregated "descended from prisoners now you live in hovels" side of town (literally- the side is across the street from the regular houses) is thrown into a vast garbage pit after being falsely accused with no trial of murder. There, he finds out there's more than just garbage in said pit and starts life anew, learning that some things he sort of thought were fable really were true all along (aka life forces inside inanimate objects).

I really liked the thicc lines and the artwork in general actually, but this story wasn't for me in the end. The first chapter was super rushed into the rest of it, and the writing was not the best. Still, I can definitely see how this may be for others who are not me.

Thank you to Kodansha and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for review!
