This was my first time reading a Sara Cox book. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. I especially liked hearing her lovely northern lilt in my head when reading.

It was nice to read about an older woman, one who had given her youth to raising her family and keeping house. When the nest is flown, it’s scary how much of yourself you’ve lost. This was a great read about finding out who you really are and what makes you happy.

Going back to her roots Josie tries to capture her happy family memories of her dad, but what unfolds certainly never occurred to her. The twists and secrets were really interesting and woven beautifully into the storyline and I just had to keep reading, I had to know what she was going to uncover next.

Totally engaging from the start this is a great inspirational read about rediscovering your true happiness and learning to live again.

This is the second Sara Cox book I have read and I can safely say that her ability to write a fantastic book is no fluke! The characters were charismatic and engaging and the plot was well-paced. I have absolutely no complaints.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for a review.

I thoroughly enjoyed “Way Back” by Sara Cox. The book was a wonderful telling of Josie getting her life back on track after divorce and revisiting her past in order to address her future. The story was heartwarming and funny and I could not put it down. A solid 4 star read **** Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher & Sara Cox for the ARC copy of this book.

Really enjoyed this story and all it offered. The characters were great and brought to life.

The only exception I took to this book is that they started the road trip in an Astra then somehow it morphed into a Fiesta! This really triggered me as the proof reading clearly wasn't completed properly.

3 and a half stars rounded up for this cozy if somewhat twee story of midlife crisis, marriage break up and starting afresh while rediscovering your past.

Our main protagonist is Josie, a fifty something married woman with a grown up daughter and a husband she’s no longer in love with. Living in London the last few decades, she still dreams about her childhood home, a farm up north where she had the happiest of childhoods. That was until her father was killed in a car crash when she was 12. A night her mother refuses to discuss and an event that Josie hasn’t grieved properly, not knowing what really happened. Herself and her mother had to leave the farm shortly after for financial reasons and Josie longs to revisit it after not setting eyes on it for 40 years.
Her impending divorce gives her the perfect opportunity and when she sets eyes on it again she is immediately drawn to it and feels a connection, so much so she decides to rent it for a year and move back in, much to her mother’s displeasure.

I enjoyed this one despite its shortcomings and flaws. I’d describe it as a cozy drama, very light reading. There are some reveals towards the end but they are kind of predictable.
You will also have to get over the rather heavy handed handling of Josies idolisation of her dead father, especially in the first half of the book. It feels like at every opportunity Josie daydreams about him in the good old days and how fantastic he was. It was quite distracting and clumsy I thought. Yes it’s part of a set up for secrets later in the book and one of the main reasons Josie wants to return to the farm but it was a subtle as a brick and honestly she was getting on my nerves daydreaming about the past and her dad all the time.

The story is decent enough and there is a fun cast of characters and it zips along quite nicely. As I say, it’s a very light read, bordering on twee but fun all the same.

I did struggle on giving it 3 or 4 stars but despite my misgivings I enjoyed myself spending time with Josie and co and enjoying a book is what it’s all about for 4 it is!

Many thanks to the publisher for sending me an ARC through Netgalley.

This author’s books have the ability to simultaneously make you unable to stop reading while wishing you could bury the book somewhere deep underground where it can't be found. Compelling and didn’t want it to end!

Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. I love Sara Cox's radio show and have enjoyed her previous books so was delighted my request for an ARC of 'Way Back' was granted. It was an enjoyable read and I was invested in the characters. Although the ending felt a bit rushed, the story was engaging and the characters believable and well-written.

This is the second novel by Sara Cox that I have read, and is even better than the first. Josie is a lovely character who is dealt some serious blows in life but perseveres and bounces back. She achieves this by going back to her roots in rural Lancashire, making new friends and finding a new purpose in life. Along the way she uncovers the mystery of her father's death, which proved so traumatic to both her and her mother.

This is a great story with some wonderful characters - even the animals have personalities. Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.

This is the second Sara Cox book I have read and I absolutely loved it.

The beginning threw me quite a bit as even though I have read sex scenes before and it doesn't bother me, this was Sara Cox who I listen to on the radio, and it just felt a bit weird. Once I got over myself and continued to read the book, I forgot about Sara as I fell in love with Josie.

The book begins with Josie separating from her husband, leaving her with no idea what she was going to do with her life. She has had a fraught relationship with her mother, since her dad died when she was 12.

On a weekend away with her best friend Fay, they spend the night with Josie's mam, before going to a health spa. Josie's mam never speaks about the time before her husband's death, and she surprises Josie by giving her 7 photos from her childhood.

This sparks a need for Josie to visit the farm they owned before her dad died, as it is not far from the spa they are going to.

This sets off a series of moves for Josie, can she change her life away from London ? Will she ever find out what secrets her mother is holding about her father's accident? And who is the hunky Farmer on the farm next door to her childhood farm

The characters were all lovely and you feel that you really did want to go and live in Josie's life, just shows you can be over 50 and still have dreams and make them happen.

I would strongly recommend this book as I absolutely loved it, can't wait for her next one now

I really liked the first book by Sara Cox and wondered if it would be very similar - but found that the storyline was totally different. This book was great and a page turner for me - I needed to know what was going to happen to Josie (the main character) next. We follow her ups and downs following the amicable breakdown of her marriage, whilst she is going through the menopause. We move backwards in time to find out why she had to move away from the farm she grew up on and eventually living down south. Then back to the present where through what seems to be an act of fate she ends up moving back up north and renting her childhood farm where several secrets are unearthed. Thanks to net galley for the free read.

I nice easy read for when you want to just switch off from the world. This story follows a turnaround in life for Josie who has just gone through an amicable breakup with her husband. It highlights her awkward relationship with her mother after her fathers death and a return to the farm where she grew up. Some secrets are revealed and things fall into place near the end. Very enjoyable and some really likeable characters. This would make a great summer holiday read.

Another great offering by Sara Cox! It’s a gentle and heartwarming story of 51-year-old Josie, who decides to leave her London life and return to the farm she grew up on in Lancashire. It’s a book filled with warmth, humour and relatable themes.
A really great read.

I like Sara Cox and I like her writing. I could hear her voice on every page and the characters felt real.
Having been brought up on a farm, as I know she was, the love of the countryside and animals shone through.
The plot was pretty predictable but enjoyable, nonetheless.
Thanks to Netgalley.

Marriage unraveling, daughter at university. Time to find out what matters. A self centred mother and a dead dad.
A trip away with a side trip to her childhood home sets changes in motion.
A pleasant stroll in the past to make sense of the here and now. New and old friends.
