I received this book in exchange for a honest review from NetGalley.
We loved this book. Great for children who are interest in the world and want to learn more about the way bugs live and go about their lives. Beautiful illustrations and I even learned some facts that I didn't know.
This gorgeously illustrated book is unlike other similarly-titled ones. It mixes science with folktales. It is exclusively done in cartoons, so those who are maybe squeamish about bugs can still view and learn about them.
The ladybug tour guide joins the reader throughout - and who doesn't love a ladybug.
I especially like how the formatting changes from page to page - the. flash card page was my favorite.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I will purchase for my library.
Thank you to Happy Yak and NetGalley for a free advanced review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This type of picture book is exactly what I want when I'm looking for non-fiction for my preschooler. The book is chock-full of facts without being wordy or excessive. The illustrations are beautiful and eye-catching and give extra detail to the bug descriptions. I even had to laugh because the book taught me facts about bugs (specifically ladybugs) that I didn't know as an adult reader! That is always a win for a parent. Grab this one before the next time your kiddo asks a specific bug question. . . you'll have the perfect book to read with them that answers their questions!
This book was very enjoyable for my first graders. It was interesting and very unique. We enjoyed learning about new bug facts and we liked that it had information about a ton of different bugs. We also thought it was unique that it had stories from around the world that were about bugs! The teeny tiny bug facts were interesting.
Overall, this books was gorgeous. The illustrations were captivating and even the teacher learned some new facts about bugs. This book was so great that I am getting it for our classroom when it is published. One of my students even said, "I need this book in my house!" and they all wanted more time with it to explore and learn even more. I noticed there were others in this series; I will be checking those out for my classroom as well.
In The Secret Life of Bugs, Luna the Ladybug takes readers on a journey through a beautifully illustrated book containing easily understood information for children. Inside includes the life cycle of some insects, such as the ladybug, creation myth stories, interesting buggy facts, ecosystem structures, and action items like responsibly supporting bugs in our environment. This book is great for younger readers with adult support.
Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for this advanced copy to review!
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this book. The Secret Life of Bugs is a fun and educational read for children learning about nature and all it’s living things. I definitely recommend this to teachers to have it in their classrooms because it is so informative on insects. Not only that but the illustrations are also beautifully done and will definitely draw attention to the book.
I loved reading this, and know my son will too. This book has the right balance of fun scientific facts, stories about bugs from around the world, and why bugs are important. I also enjoyed the narrator and colorful illustrations.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
This book is perfect for littles who are wanting to learn about insects. My niece is in love with all things with legs, wings, and eyes. We read this and she had so many questions that were answered. She was 3, and was fully engaged. It was very colorful and the pictures were beautiful as well as informative without being too long.
The Secret Life of Bugs is a fun non-fiction book all about insects for young children!
This book has beautiful illustrations, and keeps your attention as it covers each insect.
As a teacher, I would have this in my kindergarten class. Children love books in science, and zoology is one of their favorites! I know the students would learn so much from this book.
I recommend teachers and libraries get this book so your students can stay informed about nature and have fun learning about the different types of insects!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review! I’ll be adding this book to my teaching selection.
I would’ve loved to have this book as a child! This would’ve been read time and time again. Very factual without being overly informative. And the illustrations were adorable!
I love the colors and illustrations on the cover. This book is fun and educative, with quirky illustrations and vibrant colors. It is a cute book for parents to read to their kids.
As a mom of a little boy who loves bugs, this book was a hit for both of us! I loved all of the pictures and he loved the fun facts and information about bugs. I know we both learned a lot from reading this book! Highly recommend for the little bug lover in your life.
Thank you Netgalley, Moira Butterfield, and Quarto Publishing Group for the advanced reader ebook! I absolutely loved this book. The story, informative aspect, and illustrations were just so great! I have it pre-ordered for the physical copy so I can read and learn with my kids!!
This is a great nonfiction book that entertains like a fiction book. My 5 and 7 year old loved it. My 2 year old loved the butterflies. I can also see our daycare and school classrooms using it as a lesson aid in educational settings. As the adult reading the book, I really liked the illustrations and folk stories/songs. I'll be looking to check out more in this series.
Thank you to the author, Netgalley, and Happy Yak for providing this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I can see this being utilized in an elementary science lesson, especially because of all the information. Reading it in full is a little overwhelming because of all the sections and illustrations per page, but I think this would be a good resource when broken down by bug— which is why I’m imagining it in a classroom setting. Unless a child has a special interest in insects, I can’t really see this being a go-to read.
This was a very insightful book where it talks about the different bugs and Harbour group for the younger to an older species. I think this is not only educational but it’s also fun to learn about especially when you’re younger. I would definitely recommend reading this to a child before they go to sleep.
Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group
We loved the Secret Life of Bugs, the mix of information and folk tales was wonderful, they really complimented each other. Throughout the book we are following Luna the Ladybird as she explains all about bugs to us. The illustrations are beautiful and helped show the facts being explained. Each topic was clearly set out and explained. We loved the tiny facts.
This made learning fun and was very engaging to read
This was a super informative and educational story about bugs. This would be something I would’ve absolutely adored as a child, therefore, I really think young readers will enjoy this book and the different bugs.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with access to read this book!
What a brilliant learning tool for kids! This is beautifully illustrated, the information is written in such a way that it's both fun to read and easily digestible, and it's thorough. I'm in my mid-30's and I learned so much from reading it. I would be thrilled for my son to read this!
Love the concept of this book, I’m very keen to ensure my daughter doesn’t have the same irrational fears that I grew up with !
Visually this book is beautiful, it was the cover that drew me to it originally! love the illustrations throughout, very easy to tell what is what and they are all very cute. Each page is set out so clearly and differently which keeps it engaging and easy to digest the information.
Content wise, I found it very enjoyable to read, easy to understand and even found myself learning plus I really enjoyed that it covers bugs from across the globe and gaining insight about where they come from.
To summarise I found it a fun, engaging read and love the underlying message and importance of bugs, it’s a beautiful book that I’m sure we will read again and again as my daughter grows.
