"Floral Folklore: The Forgotten Tales Behind Nature’s Most Enchanting Plants" by Alison Davies, is a short overview of 40 common flowering plants.
Each plant listed shows the Latin name, a brief description of the plant with some specifications, country of origin, the stories associated with the plants, and rituals you can perform to reap the benefits of the plant associations. Whether you believe in the magic of the flowers or use meditation to enhance the symbolic meanings of these plants in your life, this book will help you do just that.
Most of these plants are common where I live, but some are not. I would say that most of these plants will be a part of the landscape and apply to each person. The plants are separated according to season. This book is brilliant for its depiction of each plant in the illustration. I highly recommend people read this book if they want to get an overall view of the folklore of flowering plants that are most common in most regions. I love the way you can apply the meanings of these plants to your own life.
This book has such a novel and original concept, I learned so much when reading this book and really enjoyed it.
What a gorgeous read! With stunning coloured illustrations for each of the flowers, Floral Folklore takes you through the mythology and tales from around the world. From the narcissus blooming from Greek Mythology to snowdrops and their inspiration for hope in Germany.
Each section of the book is organised per season, so would be a perfect companion throughout the year as you spy the newest buds in your gardens.
A lovely book for plant and flower lovers. Full of folklore and facts with beautiful illustrations. This would make a lovely gift
Thanks to NetGalley for the arc
This is a gorgeous book. We follow the year, beginning in Spring & explore the plants that appear each season. Each plant is accompanied by a description, its place in botanical mythology & a story based on a regional tale (tales are sourced from across the globe), ending with a ritual to allow the reader to work with the essence of each plant.
A sweet & really interesting book (if you have any interest in plants, gardening, myths & legends), the illustrations are whimsical & have a little nod to the story that follows. A lovely addition to the gardener, green witch or mythology lovers library.
Thank you to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group for a free digital egalley in exchange for my honest review.
Really gorgeous, easily identifiable artwork and well-told, thoughtful stories.
I especially liked the stories of Greek origin because I was already familiar with them, and the rituals included at the end of every chapter to help you connect to the energy of the flower you’ve just read about.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book! Each flower has a piece of folklore attached to it, which was very interesting. Each tale gives a place of origin and was beautifully written/translated. There are also a few tips, meditations, and thoughtful hedgewitch pointers. It is a wonderful book for anyone interested in gardening and spirituality. Thank you Netgalley for the early look into this book!
floral folklore is a cute coffee-table book covering flowers and their associated lore. the illustrations are lovely and the folklore is interesting. I think I would like it a bit more if some of the stories were more detailed, but I did learn a lot from this book. I really enjoyed the story surrounding the Sunflower. Some of the rituals are similar to each other, and I wish that part was a little more detailed, but it's a cute addition to the book. Overall, the art is beautiful and the content of the book is fun. I'd like to own a physical copy of this book once it is released.
This is a cute illustrative book on herbs, their identification uses, and practical applications for the herbs described. I thought it was well-organized and easy to read. It's a good addition to herbal lore reads.
Absolutely beautiful book full of lovely art and wonderful information and folklore. This would make a beautiful gift or coffee table book and I will be looking to pick up a physical copy to enjoy even more!

I love folklore and this was perfect
Some much information and interesting facts
The book is a collection of forty most interesting plants which most of us are not familiar with the folklore associated with them.
Every picture and every description of each plant is quite interesting. It’s cosy. It’s interesting. It’s fun and you will get to learn a lot about these plants.
The information and stories on each plant is crisp but enough information is given which I really appreciate.
The illustrations are classy!
Thank you, Leaping Hare Press, for the advance reading copy.
