Switched is the second book in this series, but featuring different main characters than those in Ghosted. Ghosted was my first book by Ready, but I was instantly a fan. Switched was just as good with an interesting plot, lovable characters, and a smart and sassy female lead.
I breezed through this book so fast I did not want it to end. We’ve all heard of the Freaky Friday theme, but this one really tugs at your heart. Serena we know from Ghosted, as Jillian’s best friend. Henry is new for us, but he is so lovable, adorable, and ready to fall madly in love. I wanted to jump into the book and claim him for myself! You just can’t help but root for these two.
I found this story interesting simply because both characters understand over the course of weeks how to care for one another and be for them when tragedy or a happy occasion arises.
My two favorite aspects of this book were how Ready made this book her own by including hand drawn diagrams and footnotes. Both were super funny and really added to the book. There aren’t a lot of each, but they are placed where needed. Side note: the anatomy of a Ken Doll was pretty funny.
Ready just has a way with writing a story that makes you forget your real life, which is something I really need right now. I am obsessed with her stories and her ability to create smart characters that aren’t pompous and full of themselves. Think Ali Hazelwood but better. I know, I said it.
Pick up Ghosted and Switched if you are looking for cute stories that suck you in. They are completely worth it.

Switched was a cute read. It didn’t grip me as firmly as some of her other books but it was still super cute and a nice vacation from reality.
I love the story concept. I loved the actual story as it went along (the meeting of families, the reliving ingrained memories) but there were misses in the unfolding of the story that I wish had been done differently. I wish we could have known in more truthful terms how Serena felt in the year and a half they were not speaking which only became apparent much later after first having read her inner monologue about disliking him, it was confusing. Did she dislike him? Did she love him? It was inconsistent and even when you’re trying to lie to yourself, your inner monologue is going to be a bit more honest than what we saw here.
Also I wish instead of her being some STEM pinup girl, she could have been a bit more humble and Henry saw her beauty, not that every man wanted her and Henry was just one in many men that probably couldn’t resist her. It’s like I want this story, but I want a rewrite where Serena is more relatable and vulnerable and not just vulnerable in Henry’s eyes. One where there’s unrequited love for both of them, not just Henry who couldn’t stand the distance and being willing to leave because of it.
Lastly, while I definitely appreciate women in scientific fields other than my own, there was a lot of waxing poetic about (oh goodness I don’t even know, the collider? Particle physics, the universe)…let them just make love for goodness sake, don’t give us a chapter about scientific discovery and then next thing you know Henry has a sweaty back and I’m flipping back and forth trying to figure out if I missed something (I did—apparently they had sex while I was reading about science). I don’t need open door but that was just convoluted.
What I loved: I loved everything from when they switched until the end. The actual conflict of them sharing their bodies and their banter along the way. Once I got past the rough start it was much more addicting and I’m glad I stuck it out.
I love this series so much!!! Ghosted was one of my top favorite reads of 2023, and i am glad to say this one is up there as well. There’s just something about Sarah’s writing that makes it so easy to read her books, and her story’s always have just a little more something than other romance books.
I was so excited to get into this book, but i will say the whole swapping bodies thing is so common i was a bit afraid it would be pretty predictable, but i trusted Sarah and went into and i was not disappointed. The romance, the friendships, everything was top notch!
i went back and forth from the audio and the ebook because i didn’t want to put it down!!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this! Sarah Ready is one of my new favorite authors. Her stories are so unique and fun to read. I thought this was super cute and full of emotion.
What a great story! I’ve read a few of Sarah Ready’s books in the past and they are always so unique and fascinating. Besides the whole switching bodies thing, I found both characters Serena and Henry to be relatable-their fears and emotions. I cannot recommend her books enough!
Thank you for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you, Sarah Ready and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this early.
They say you never know someone until you walked a mile in their shoes. Well, Serena Otaki, double-doctorate physicist who works smashing atoms at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, is about to know Henry Joule really really well. They met 437 days ago (or so) at The Cock and Bull, had an earth shattering one night stand that scared the bejesus out of Serena (who falls in love at first sight? Not her, for sure!), specially when she finds out he's about to be her new boos at the lab. So she does the reasonable thing to do: friendzones the crap out of him.
Henry was equally thunderstruck by his encounter with Serena and doesn't understand why she suddenly went out of her way to hurt him. Now, they've been working together for more than a year in a most civilized manner... until the Universe (capital U) has plans for them.
One night, one thunderstorm, one anomaly in the lab and - boom! - they wake up in each other's bodies! And with those bodies come feelings and memories... Henry has to attend his brother's wedding that weekend, so Serena has to go, posing as him and him posing as his girlfriend.
Now they're walking a mile in each other's bodies - will Serena understand that love can, indeed, be wonderful? Will they ever switch back?
This one was lovely! So much fun to read/listen to this geeky Freaky Friday! I loved all the scienc-y stuff (former woman in STEM here) and it's so romantic! And funny!
Actual Rating: 3.75
Serena Otaki, lady of stem. Passionate about Star Trek, spicy tofu, and her cat, Captain Purrk. Happily chaotic she is very content with her life and how it's going. Currently working at The Large Hadron Collider near Geneva, Switzerland, she's not ready for any change. Until one night when she meets Henry Joules, simple and sweet Brit. They spend the night together and worlds collide. They are in love - but Serena can't have that. She breaks away from Henry and vows to get on with her life. As luck may have it, Henry is also her new boss. Someone she has to see every single day. During a late night at the office a freak storm causes havoc, forcing both Serena and Henry to switch bodies. Can they find their way back to themselves and still be the same people? Or does the universe have bigger plans for the pair?
Here we have another great addition to the women of STEM category in romance. Serena is strong, knows what she wants and she is overall, quite likable. Watching both her and Henry falling deeper and acknowledging their instant attraction was love was satisfying. I loved the scientific references and the stark contrast between both MC's. Switched is a journey of self-discovery in a light and hilarious way. Great as a standalone, but there are characters involved in this story from Ghosted. For the best overall reading, give that one a go first, if you haven't already.
Perfect for fans of:
- Instalove.
- Breaking the fourth wall.
- Opposites attract
- Forced proximity.
- Fake dating.
Thank you to NetGalley & Sarah Ready for both an eARC and ALC for honest review. Publication is set for February 20th, 2024.
I read the first book in this series last year and loved it. This one focuses on the best friend of the main character in Ghosted. Serena loves science, and there’s no room in her heart for a man. She has a steamy night with Henry and she quickly breaks his heart by saying she’s not a relationship girl. Time goes by and during a mishap at CERN (where they both work), they switch bodies. Things go from there.
Ghosted is my favorite in the series so far. I enjoyed this one, but the last few chapters of the book were a bit cheesy for my tastes.
Thanks as always to NetGalley for the ARC.
This was a very different twist on a fake dating romance but I really enjoyed it! I loved the Freaky Friday vibes but as always I wish it were steamier.
At this point, I'm convinced that Sarah Ready could publish her grocery list and I'd be in love. Her range of romance writing is freaking fabulous. Switched is the second installment in the Ghosted series, can fully be read as a stand-alone but shares the similar almost 'paranormal', quirky, kinda science-y and nerdy qualities of a romance.
Switched embraces the "Freaky Friday" theme and Serena and Henry are now in each other's bodies. I loved Serena and Henry, total opposites yet work together so incredibly well. Their banter throughout is top-notch, another Sarah Ready trait that hits every time. Throughout this laugh out loud read, there are such tender and intimate moments of them helping each other out in such vulnerable times. The evolution of their personal growths and their relationship is magical.
All in all, another knockout from Ready that will have you snickering in delight, swooning, and groaning with frustration from the tension that builds.
Sarah Ready books are an auto read for me. I love ghosted, and absolutely loved this one as well. I got the arc ebook and the audiobook and switched between the two. Kinda reminded me of Freaky Friday (body switching) and I loved that movie growing up. While both ways are good, definitely recommend the audiobook. I absolutely loved the narrator!
Our main character Serena believes true love is a science. If only it were that easy girl. Black and white, and not messy. Henry is looking for his true love. These two switch bodies and have to figure out how to switch back. Along the way they really get to know each other and the rest is history.. you know a great love story!
I did enjoy this one a little more than "Ghosted" (also by this author) but that's just because I really enjoyed the body swapping premise! I wish there was more magical realism in rom com books. Ashley Poston is another author who does a great job of this!
Thank you netgalley for the arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Ok the Ghosted series is back and still great!!
This time we follow Serena Otaki who doesn’t believe in love, unless that love is particle physics. After an encounter with her co-worker, they find themselves in each others’ bodies and start to realize they understand each other more than they thought.
This book was quirky, funny and had a lot of heart. It was just such a feel good time that I had trouble putting it down! The body switching led to some truly hilarious scenes and thought this was seriously just a good read. Suspend your disbelief and you’ll have a great time.
I literally just finished this book and had to review it immediately! This is such a heartwarming story that had me smiling and chuckling throughout. It was like watching a rom-com in my head 😍
Serena is a physicist who is convinced her one true love is science. There’s no room for anything else. Henry, who is also a physicist, is welcoming to all love and hopes to find someone to spend his life with. They have a chance (or fated??) meeting and an out of this universe night together, but they were doomed before they started. Then something impossible happens, they switch bodies. They now are stuck together (and in each other) while trying to figure out how to switch back.
I absolutely loved this book! I loved getting to see Serena and Henry in each other’s heads. This story had me pulled me in and I never wanted to let go. 💜 I will definitely be picking up more of Sarah Ready’s work!
Do yourself a favor and put this on your TBR!
Thank you NetGalley and Swift and Lewis Publishing for a copy of this ebook!
Sarah Ready books are an auto read for me, whatever book she publishes I will read. Switched was a really fun read, I let myself get swept by the storylines. I am a fan of Sarah Ready's writing, it has so much emotion, intrigue and hopefulness that I cannot stop reading.
Oh this was fun! Who doesn’t love a good body switch trope. This story combines two things that I don’t usually see together when it comes to the main female lead - she’s literally brilliant ( I mean she works at CERN!) but I would also describe her as an emotional mess. Through the book we see her grow and learn to see things from another perspective (Henry’s) and and it lets her develop in a really great way.
I loved how the author used the body switch trope and how it wasn’t just a simple swap of the body but they also took of some of the memories, feelings and likes and dislikes of each other. I also really enjoyed all the different locations that we got to explore in the story from Switzerland, the UK all the way to Northern California.
I didn’t realize when I first picked it up that this is the second in a series of interconnected stand alone books so I definitely want to go back and read the first one and I’m excited about the next one!
Thanks to NetGalley, W.W. Crown and the author Sarah Ready for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I am a Sarah Ready super fan. And while Josh and Emma are still my number one favorites I really enjoyed this one. I loved the concept of love and how you don't lose YOU in the process of loving someone when it is right. I loved Henry and Serena. I do wish we got more from Henry's point of few and a little less physics. I found myself skimming a little. Overall I really enjoyed it though.
I discovered Sarah Ready when a friend recommended Ghosted, and when I picked Switched, I didn't know it was part of the series--that was the first pleasant surprise since I thoroughly enjoyed Ghosted. I also thoroughly enjoy Ali Hazelwood, and the characters in this book have those Elsie Hannaway and Jack Smith vibes I cannot say no to.
That said, Switched is a truly wonderful novel all on its own. I loved the characters, Serena's passion for the Universe and all things physics, the way Henry falls hard and fast, as well as the concept of true love/soul mates who need the switch to understand one another fully.
I loved the world-building and the elements of magical realism, and, as a cat mom, I absolutely loved Purrk. The diagrams and footnotes sprinkled throughout the book are an absolute delight, and this read was very close to 5 stars for me. The reason I deducted a star was the absolute absence of Purrk in the last chapters. Once Serena and Henry decide to adopt a corgi, the cat vanishes from the picture. In the epilogue, Cupid the corgi is mentioned three times, but there is absolutely no mention of Serena's cat as if he doesn't have a place in the family anymore (it could have been mentioned when Serena says some nights they cuddle on the couch). Some may say this is not enough reason to deduct a star, but I found this part lacking, and it truly dimmed the end for me.
Aside from this misstep (in my opinion), Switch was a truly enjoyable and immersive read.
One perfect night Serena and Henry meet. Sparks fly, particles collide, the universe comes to a halt, and they’re too different. It won’t work. Until an electric storm causes an unexpected event at the particle collider, and suddenly—they’ve switched. Serena is in Henry’s body. Henry is in Serena’s body. And both life and love are suddenly very, very complicated.
Oh man!! What a rollercoaster ride this book was! I've been waiting for this one since "Ghosted," and it's safe to say that it was hella satisfying.
Told solely from Serena's pov, I loved how quirky, humorous, & whimsical this story was. A cosmic lovestory that I'd never imagined. Lovers of STEM romances I'm sure you're gonna love this because it has got plenty of scientific references that, when added to the contex of romance, makes it even more realistic.
I adored Serena & Henry's chemistry. I thought the switch was going to be weird but it never felt that way. I loved how Serena's brain worked with so many laugh-out-loud moments along the way.
Can't wait for the next one in the series.
<i>Thank you Netgalley & Publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review.<i>
I initially decided to read 'Switched' because I was looking for a fun, new romance to read and this book met those expectations! I gave this book an actual rating of 3.5 stars but rounded up for the review. Sarah Ready writes a beautiful love story between main characters Serena and Henry but does so in a truly unique way. This is a perfect book for fans of Ali Hazelwood and those who love women in stem, work place, love at first sight novels. I also felt the writing to be so beautifully done at times that it felt almost poetic.
However, the main issue I had was that I did not like Serena's character. I often found her to be quite annoying and arrogant in a distrustful way. While it did lessen some of my enjoyment of the book, I still found the love story to be well written and interesting. My only other issue with the story being that sometimes I found the writing inconsistent. As previously mentioned, there were times it was beautifully done but others I found it somewhat immature.
Overall, it was a quick, lighthearted read that still managed to pack an emotional punch!
hi!! i dnfed this book because it didn't it didn't seem like the best content for me to be reading. thank you for the opportunity anyways!! i really liked your cover and it seemed very cute and in a couple years i would love to read it!! thank you for your time.
