3.75 this was a nice easy read. I liked that Persey was the “grumpy” of the two. There first encounter had me laughing. I really liked how spunky and determined she was. Acton was definitely more golden retriever of the two and I liked it he was so agreeable it was easy to forgive him for his past roguish behavior. I also liked that she was not a virgin heroine. I look forward to the next book. Thank you NetGalley for the copy to provide my honest feedback.
Rogues Rules.
Persephone is being forced by her horrible parents to marry so she can save her family from ruin even though it was brought on by her sister.
Well, what a way to begin a romance story, I tell myself.
My favorite character being the supposedly rogue Acton who I would fall for any day. I loved the way he presented himself throughout this charming and emotional story. He certainly gave me many swoon worthy moments.
Persephone was interesting, witty, and strong in her beliefs which were amazing because her upbringing was horrible.
This is a stew pot of disasters, surprises, desirous passions that had smoke seeping from the pages as the romance finally took off towards a very enjoyable happy ending.
I truly enjoyed this first book and look forward to more of this new series from an author who knows how to bring forth an interesting and passionate romance story.
✔Special Menton to Aunt Lucinda and the Dowager mother for adding so much insight and joy to the story.

'If the Duke Dares' had a captivating premise which was the reason I picked up the ARC. Safe to say, it didn't disappoint with its loveable characters and engrossing plot.
The book has a light-hearted tone and is apt for a relaxing time. Darcy Burke's writing style is fluidic and the trajectory of the plot was different than what I thought it would be, but addictive nonetheless. I was reading the book every moment I could spare.
Persephone and Acton are the best! I have no complaints. One can't help but fall in love with these two! Their banter is irresistible making their chemistry sizzle off the pages! The inn scenes and the train scenes were my personal favourite!
From what I've seen of Acton's friends and Persey's friends in this book, I am excited to read the other books in the series as well. Aunt Lucinda (wonder what her story is all about!), Acton's mom and sisters were amicable characters.
The one thing that irked me in the book was the repetition of certain thoughts and sentences. Apart from that it was an amazing book making me think back to continuing to read the story, hours after finishing the book!
Thankyou Netgalley and Darcy Burke for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
An amazing story . Persephone is the oldest daughter of an baron with an sister Pandora which was compromised by a Lord Bane and now her parents want her to marry her off with her mother's best friends Duke son . He is knowen as a rogue and she doesn't want to be married to him so she escape the night before they arrive at his ducal estate . Then at the inn she stays she accidentally meets him and she pretents to be a widow and even flirts with him to see how he will react . When Acton the other day discover that the widow who spill her wine at him is the lady he must marry he feels that he must find her and save her .Then they spent few days together and he is a total gentelman with her exept for an amazing kiss that make her want to be with him . Will she choose to be with him or be a spintster ? I loved how he truly found the truth about his mother leaving him when he was a young boy , and how he reacted with the news about his friend .
I received this book from netgalley and the publicer as an ARC . Thank you . All thoughts and opinions are my own .
Interesting plot, lovely MC, cute story, the love interest slightly pissed me off but overall pretty good!!!
I read ‘If the Duke Dares’ and decided too give it 3 stars.
This book was a lot of fun. I loved how true to herself Persy was and how rogueish and charistmatic Acton was. There was instantaneous chemistry between the two and their love/hate aspect really elevated the story. Whether trekking through the country as reluctant betrotheds or promenading and pretending to court, there was always something transpiring which made it easy to read.
Not gonna lie though, I would’ve loved to see more of Persy’s girlfriends in the story especially since the series will be following them.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this e-ARC.
4/5 Stars.
If the Duke Dares is a swoon-worthy period romance that has you wanting more with every page you turn.
A romance blooms in the last place Persephone expects to find love, but it doesn’t happen overnight. After a scandal that threatens to ruin her sister’s reputation, Persey and her friends adopt the Rogue Rules. Which in short, means they avoid any casanova at all costs.
However, Persephone’s parents are desperate to preserve their reputation and in need of money. They decide to go against her wishes to choose her suitor and it comes to play Duke Acton… The man who ruined her sister’s reputation.
Running away before they can meet, Persey unexpectedly comes across none other than Acton at the inn she’s lodging at for the night… Whatever could happen?
This was such a fun read and I can't wait to pick up the next installment!
*I received an ARC through Net Galley and this is my unbiased opinion. Thank you for the ARC!*
I have read Darcy Burke books before and always enjoyed them and this is no exception. It's a really enjoyable read about two people getting to know each other and then starting to like each other. This is the first book in the series and I hope there is some comeuppance for Bane who has ruined Pandora's reputation. Which is the start of this book and what starts Persephone being forced by parents to marry Acton and her running away from the meeting.
I found this incredibly enjoyable! This historical romance was a nice blend of steam and romance. You could feel the developing friendship, and both of the main characters were relatable and personable. I also liked that there were additional relationships beyond the romantic one that were explored.
I had a couple of small quibbles, but nothing worth deducting stars over. The first is probably pedantic on my part, and that's that Acton's mother was not the dowager duchess. Since Acton wasn't married, his mother retains the title until he does. Secondly, I found the synopsis for the story confusingly worded. I thought Persephone would be a widow, not that she was pretending to be one.
Anyway, this was incredibly enjoyable to read! Can't wait to check out some of the author's other books.
The book started great. Unlike many heroines in this type of book, I loved how Persephone took charge of the news of her imminent arranged marriage.
However, not even halfway through, it just seemed like a constant repetition of the same scenes and situations, over and over, and I couldn't wait for the story to move forward and finally get to where it was supposed to be.
Then, she and Acton started being way too comfortable with one another, especially since what happened to her sister and, despite him appearing to be perfect and willing to change, she didn't have any guarantee that he wouldn't behave like a rake.
All in all, it was nice, I just wish it would've been shorter and that the story moved at a quicker pace.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I thought that Acton and Persey made a cute couple. It was obvious that they had a connection from the beginning. The way that Acton stands up for Persey is endearing.
After the 3rd chapter it was a little hard for me to get into. I did end up DNFing. I will not post a review a on Goodreads because I didn’t finish it so it’s not fair for me to post a bad review.
“If the Duke Dares” it’s just the perfect Regency romance story. The first of a series that promises to be engaging from the start.
The story is a romance between the Duke of Wellsbourne, Ascot, and the oldest daughter of a Baron Persephone, Persey, Barclay. After Persey’s sister is compromised, she and her friends promise to protect themselves against rogues. Ascot and his friends are the worst group of rogues in England. So, when destiny puts them together they just can’t help to fall in love in spite of their convictions and emotional baggages. Expect steamy scenes as a bonus.
I personally love that the end of the story wasn’t rushed and that it has an epilogue that satisfies your immediate curiosity but at the same time intrigues the reader enough to expect fervently the following books in this series.
Persey’s parents inform her that the duke she has been engaged to since birth is on his way to check her out. Not wanting to marry a known rake like the duke, Acton, she runs away. Acton follows her and they have an adventure traveling together. When her parents engage her to her cousin instead, both Persey and Acton take a stand. Can they be happy together? I received an ARC from NetGalley and Zealous Quill Press for my honest review.
Persephone is being forced into an arranged marriage she doesn’t want after her sister is ruined by a rogue and she runs away from her parents on the journey to meet the prospective groom. She actually ends up meeting the duke while she’s busy pretending to be a widow at an inn, but he doesn’t know who she is. At some point, our duke Acton realizes that his supposed bride is out on the road alone, so he goes to find her and protect her. While they both agree that they aren’t interested in marrying each other, they start a slow and tentative friendship. Persephone learns that Acton is not as terrible as his reputation and Acton learns that he should learn to treat women better. We get some more of Acton’s backstory regarding his relationship with his estranged mother and sisters, which is really interesting to learn. I liked seeing how these two started to trust each other and then to enjoy each other’s company. Definitely a slow-burn romance here, with Acton showing lots of character growth.
This book is a lot of fun and super sexy!
I liked the dynamic between the MMC & MFC. They’re opposites but have an undeniable connection. Their banter and back & forth was a lot of fun to read about. This was also super steamy!!
The cover is stunningly gorgeous. I love the colors.
