a delightful children's book that makes learning about eye exams enjoyable. Through colorful illustrations and engaging storytelling, young readers are taken on a journey to the optometrist. Interactive elements like eye charts and flaps keep kids entertained while they learn about eye health. This book not only educates about vision care but also instills curiosity and excitement about taking care of their eyes. With valuable information about eye conditions and the role of optometrists, this is a five-star read that inspires children to appreciate the gift of sight. Highly recommended!
A cute children's picture book that seamlessly blends poetic storytelling with a crucial message about eye care. Through catchy rhymes, the book emphasizes the importance of regular eye exams for everyone, regardless of age or current vision. From the youngest readers to wise grandparents, the narrative unfolds the inevitable changes in vision over time. The book not only educates about the necessity of eye exams but also sheds light on the mandatory nature of these exams in schools and why teens should prioritize their vision for safety. Why Should I Get an Eye Exam? serves as a gentle reminder to parents that even when everything seems fine, regular eye exams are vital for catching potential issues early.
While I applaud the sentiment of this book, the rhyming text really doesn't work here. I would have preferred a simple statement of the facts, or maybe an explanation as to what a child can expect at an eye exam rather than this glib "poetry" that reads like an advertising spiel.
"Why should I get an eye exam?
Cheap readers do just fine.
A custom pair and custom care
Will help you down the line."
I honestly expected to find that this was sponsored by Pearle Vision Center.

A cute rhyming read that explains why your kids and everybody in the family should get an eye exam. This book doesn’t go into details about what will happen during the exam, so I would pair it with a book that explains step by step what happens at the optometrist.
As an early childhood teacher, I am always looking for resources to help teach our students about helping professions in our community. These "community helpers" as we call them include different types of doctors, dentists, mail carriers, farmers, etc. This is a fantastic book to add to this collection as it teaches students the value of eye doctors for all ages and abilities!
This is also a valuable book to help ease children's nerves prior to a new type of doctor's visit and/or understand the different types of vision abilities. I have had a couple of students really struggle when they were told they needed to wear glasses, and I think a book like this would have helped their anxiety.
I thoroughly enjoyed the rhyme scheme and fun illustrations, creating a more engaging experience for children. I also loved to see the diversity represented within the book.
Overall, I highly recommend this book for an early childhood classroom library!
A cute guide to why everyone should get an eye exam, baby, child, adult, senior citizen, even a blind person. The book will help familiarize and make safe the upcoming trip to the optometrist. Brightly illustrated and well written, it is a pleasant approach to removing fears and insuring that eye care will be received. Useful.
Cute and rhyme sing songs. The illustrations were so cute. It’s diverse in showing different people with eye issues, some even disabilities.
This message is so important. When I write about the importance of getting eye exams, I go into detail about how important screening is. This little book goes much further, letting people know that vision exams are important if their vision is perfect or "hopeless." There is always some kind of care that will help.
I recommend this for all young readers.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
Why Should I Get an Eye Exam?: A poetic eyecare reminder for the entire family
by Kara Vance
A medical resource for students. A strong social emotional learning text to help students to understand the need for glasses. Why does someone wear glasses? Why the vision changes over time? Eliminating fear of doctors and tests.
