James Pattersons new book the 24th hour certainly doesnt disappointment! Thought-provoking, and insightful are the first 2 words that come to mind.
While out for lunch there is a loud scream and the Womens Murder Club find a woman who had been seriously assaulted. But how do you get a conviction when the victim says she's one name to you and another to someone else and many more besides, not to mention seemingly confused about what has happened, or simply not remembering the attack!! Why is she so confused and how will the womens murder club solve the case?
Highly recommend this book, its well paced, believable and well-researched. Tackling a subject many of us know very little about.
There’s plenty going on for the Women’s Murder Club & their partners. The characters are great & have been well-developed over the previous 23 books. Trigger warning for the opening assault on a female. There’s then a Court case involving the victim who has a multiple personality disorder. There’s the murders of a celebrity couple & their rather sordid complicated family life. There’s a cruel cyber terrorism threat, with the added bonus of a drugs ring. It’s fast paced with trademark short punchy chapters, swapping between all the investigations. Resolutions are perhaps too predictable, & with abrupt confessions, rather than working through the clues to solutions. The ending does appear rushed. However, I do now want to read all the previous books in this series
The 24th hour is the 24th book in the Women's Murder club series and the 21st collaboration with Maxine Paetro and the first book in the series I have read and only the second James Patterson book I have read. It is a fast paced all action thriller that I comfortably read in a day. Recommended for lovers of this genre and I am sure the loyal following will enjoy this latest offering for the Women's Murder club.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for an advance copy of The 24th Hour, the twenty-fourth novel to feature The Woman’s Murder Club, a group of four friends from San Francisco.
The women are out celebrating a birthday when they hear a scream. Sergeant Lindsay Boxer rushes to the scene and finds a young woman brutally assaulted and the perpetrator still there. He is promptly arrested and six months later Yuki Castellano is about to prosecute him, but the case has become very complicated. While Yuki is in court Lindsay is investigating the puzzling murder of a very rich man.
I enjoyed The 24th Hour, which follows three distinct plot lines, the two mentioned above and Lindsay’s husband, Joe Molinari’s investigation into a cyber attack. I’ll be honest and say that I do not think that this novel is anywhere close to being the best in the series. It lacks tension and, in Lindsay’s case, feels rather circular. Joe’s case is a whimper so the best is Yuki in court with well drawn characters, a genuine dilemma and a lot of uncertainty about the outcome. I found it riveting.
The novel switches between the three plot lines on a regular basis and while it might seem a lot to keep up with each plot is easy to follow. Ok, I got lost in the geek speak in Joe’s case, but as it’s such a filler story it hardly mattered. Lindsay’s case has a good premise, but it gets tangled up in extraneities and has little forward momentum until something happens to solve the case.
The 24th Hour is a good read that I can recommend.
This is a busy, fast paced story with three storylines – a trial, a murder investigation and a cyber attack threat – and whilst I didn’t completely understand everything going on with Joe's cyber case, it was nonetheless interesting and exciting. As ever, the storylines and character interactions draw the reader in and you get invested in the outcomes of the various threads of the story along with the personal lives of the main characters. I really like the friendships between the four women as well as their relationships with their men. What else can you say but brilliant story.
Six months previously the ladies were meeting in a posh restaurant to celebrate Claires birthday when they heard a yell and discovered a woman who had been assaulted and raped.
Six months later, Yuki is preparing to prosecute the case and Lindsay has been called to the scene of a murder. The odd thing is that the wife of the murdered man was killed in exactly the same place six months before. Meanwhile Joe has been called in to consult on a Cybercrime with the FBI.
As normal with this series, all the story arcs are solved and there is a happy ending.
Thanks to NetGalley and The Publisher for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
2.5 stars Rounded up.
Unfortunately this installment just didn't deliver in my opinion. The three threads seemed unnecessary, like 3 short stories put together to make a novel without any attempt to connect them. While there was some attempt to build tension, the resolutions were very anti-climatic, very rushed and felt like cop-outs rather than a-ha moments. Unfortunately the small cliff-hanger at the end isn't enough to to convince me that the next book in the series is worth reading.
Top rate as usual from Patterson. I have read the whole series of novels involving Lindsay and the gang. Patterson has been very clever in providing the background to their lives alongside the homicides which adds extra interest to the read. His plots are well constructed and keep you wanting to carry on reading til the end. I managed to read this in 2 days!
The usual high quality, high octane mix of stories for the women’s murder club to solve. The authors ability to move between cyber security, billionaire murders and a rapist keeps the pages turning. I did however solve the murder before the cops!
It is one of those couldn't put it down books. It went everywhere with me.
What a pacy action packed ride i have been on.... complicated mental health issues put Yuki to the test of bringing a case to court..
At the same time Lyndsey Boxer is chasing a serial killer.
The womens murder club is stretched to the limit but they are all good in their own field and a force to be reckoned with. This is the 24th Hour
Having breakfast and finishing "The 24th Hour" wow a brilliant read and a recommendation to have this on your TBR pile, cant wait for the next one. James Patterson is king of crime
I love the women's murder club. Having read them all, I always worry that one book will disappoint but so far that's not the case. The books are really good and this one is no exception. The characters are brilliant and the dynamic between them is great. Typically for these books, there are several stories in one involving all the characters to some degree. Although I guessed the identity of one of the perps early on in the book it didn't spoil the enjoyment for me. I can guarantee you'll like this book which can be easily read as a stand alone novel if you've not read any of the previous ones.
Wow. James Patterson does it again with The Womans murder Club. This book had me gripped right from the beginning. A brutal crime and then the court case which you just don’t know how it will play out. If that wasn’t enough there was two more crimes that needed solving and stretched the ladies and their partners to their limits. A fast paced book that I couldn’t put down. Would highly recommend this book and you can read it without having read the rest of his books. Although I would highly advise to read them all.
Thanks first must go to Netgalley, the publisher and James Patterson for the ARC of ‘The 24th Hour’.
As the title suggests this is the 24th instalment into the Women’s Murder Club series following Lindsey, Claire, Cindy & Yuki. I have been an avid James Patterson fan and have read the majority of his series in their entirety.
Unfortunately this is the first time I’ve struggled with one of his books. I found it slow to start, I struggled to engage with the characters and despite the happy ending the book didn’t grab me.
Unfortunately for me this may be the end of the Women’s Murder Club
Have enjoyed the previous book in the series and this one hit the mark. Plenty of suspense throughout and likeable characters. Look forward to the next one. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.
You would think after so many books in the series they might start to get repetitive, but you would be wrong! Once again James Patterson had me hooked to see what would happen next. Lindsay is in the right place at the right time to help the victim of an attack, but it's more complicated than that. A great addition to the women's murder club
This is the third Women's Murder Club I have read. Unfortunately they are not for me. I have read over 15 Patterson books and have enjoyed all the others except for this series. I just don't gel with the main characters. Obviously, having written 24 in the series, they must be popular. I'll still be looking forward to the next in the Margaret, Holmes and Poe series.
I was interested to read this instalment in the women’s murder club series, I was drawn in by the story of a woman with a hugely controversial diagnosis. I had hoped that this story would be dealt with in a sensitive and factual manner, instead it was used for shock factor and not really even resolved.
There are usually a few stories in these books and this time we had legal, police and homeland security, only one was tied up.
It feels as if someone has started to write and then got bored.
A Woman with dissociative identity disorder is raped, a multi millionaire scammer with an hedonistic lifestyle is murdered, and an international gang of cyber hackers are blackmailing hospitals...Read it!
I’m not going to lie - The Women’s Murder Club is a must read for me, so I was excited to see that book 24 was out.
This book follows Sergeant Lindsay Boxer’s investigation into the murders of a husband and wife, a number of months apart; Yuki Castellano’s prosecution of a man accused of raping a vulnerable woman and Cindy
This proved to be another entertaining, enjoyable, quick read. Like putting on a comfy cardi, the characters are instantly recognisable and continue to show successful women nailing their careers and valuing their friendships. As always, these strong women are the focus of the story, with men being the support characters.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read this book.
I hadn’t read many of the women’s murder club books though enough to recognise the main characters..The book had 3 main storylines running through it but other than the main characters appearing in the storylines, they were very much unconnected with one another. An enjoyable book but not enthralling
