My feelings about this book are very similar to my feelings about the rest of this series:

I realize this is an uncorrected propf, but the whole series, and especially this book would greatly benefit from more editing, especially for sentence structure and syntax.

This book doesn’t have the most engaging plot in the series, but I was glad to get resolution and see my boys have a (bitter) sweet ending.

I enjoy Ben’s Darkmourn series precisely because it feels more contained and its less reliant on complex world building. In this case, however, Ben has created a world where the magic system is an integral part of the plot and the reaches and limitations of that magic are not very clear. Neither is the understanding of what exactly Lilyth is, where she comes from, and how her power works.

Ultimately, it leaves the reader with more questions than answers regarding what is going. Also, the introduction of the vampires (I am assuming they are vampires) at the end is left very up in the air. Especially since they are not even mentioned in the epilogue.

However, the payoff from Max and Simion finally getting their chance has kept me coming back to this series despite the work it needs. I have said it before and I will say it again, Ben writes increible relationship dynamics and tension. Every time Simion calls Max “my love”, my heart grows three sizes, the whole series is worth it just for that.

Reading this book took longer than I expected, mainly cause it was the uncorrected version i guess. I see the vision, the plot, the romance between Max and Simion and I honestly want to read the other books from this series.
