I was so excited to be reading this book which is the second in the San Diego series of books featuring Kit and Sam. Kit is a Detective who works alongside Conor and they are called to a death at a retirement home. It is certainly no ordinary death with the former police office having been brutally stabbed. When Kit and Connor arrives Dr Sam Reeves is playing piano top the residents there and is once again drawn into Kit's world.
I absolutely loved the continuing story surrounding Kit and Sam and think that Rose has played the long game with this making it a lot easier for the readers to discover more about both their pasts and become a lot more invested into their storyline. Aside from Kit and Sam some of the other characters brought into this storyline such as other residents at the home who were also friends with the victim certainly saved this from being a little on the disappointing side.
The writing was as ever impeccable however for me this book fell a little short and I think it was the storyline itself. It was a middle of the road book for me, but I still cannot wait to get started on book 3 which was recently released

A brilliant stroy, yet again, from Karen Rose. Kit McKittrick is not my favourite here / heroine, but this is still a thoroughly good thrill ride of a book!

Yes, I'm late, but in my defence, I simply forgot, sorry. As a fan of books where you don't find out who-dun-it until right at the end, I was chuffed to finish this book to my satisfaction. Overall, pretty good. My thanks to the publisher for the reading copy.

Karen Rose is one of my favourite authors so when I saw this available on Netgalley it was a no brainer. I only realised on starting it’s the second book in The San Diego Case Files series. I didn’t feel I was missing out for the most part not reading the first but I’ve read all of Rose’s book series in order. I did enjoy this one but did find the storyline a bit too drawn out and it felt like it lost its way in the middle somewhat. It had an interesting well developed storyline with well developed likeable characters. I know some criticise the romantic theme that runs through Karen Roses books but I really love that aspect as she really knows how to do it right. As always Karen Rose never lets me down.
Thanks to Netgalley and Headline for the opportunity to read and review #Cheater

Karen Rose knows how to hook readers with a prologue. Cheater , the second book in her San Diego Case Files series, although it can be read as a stand alone book. It combines a police procedural with a hint of romantic suspense, I'm not really the romantic sort so this bit didn't really work for me. Featuring homicide detective Kit McKittrick and criminal psychologist and profiler Dr. Sam Reeves, the story is a good crime thriller.
Kit and Connor are called to the Shady Oaks Retirement Village where a resident’s body was found stabbed and his apartment ransacked. It turns out that Sam volunteers there by playing the piano and taking song requests. Kit and Sam met in book one in the series, but Kit has been avoiding him. Now, with his rapport within the retirement community, they find themselves working together once again.
She does write long books. I'm afraid this one wasn't for me.

The second book in the series, I had to go back and read the first book before diving into this one because I wanted to get to know the characters more. This thriller kept me guessing and the story flowed so fast that it was an easy read that kept me guessing. Loved the progression of the characters as well and got easily attached to them.

Another book from Karen Rose that keeps you going and you don’t want to put it down.
Detective Kit McKittrick is back with another murder - that of a former murder detective at a retirement home. Can Kit find out what has been going on before more bodies turn up?
Another great read from Karen Rose, thanks to NetGalley for the ARC

Really enjoyed this book. Love the dynamic between Kit and Sam and the 'will they, won't they' vibe. I'm a big fan of books where the identity of the perpetrator is kept secret until the end and this definitely does that. Can't wait to read more of Karen's books.

Over the years I’ve read and loved many Karen Rose books so was looking forward to reading.
I have to be honest and say that I found it really slow and it took my weeks to finish whereas usually it would only take a few days maximum. It felt like not a lot happened for most of the book.
Having said that, it has not put me off this author and I will definitely read more of her other books.
Many thanks to #NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This one pulls you into a high-stakes world where deception and betrayal run deep. The plot is sharp and relentless, keeping you guessing with every twist and turn. Our main character is caught in a web of lies that just keeps tightening, and watching them navigate through it all is thrilling, to say the least.
There’s a perfect mix of suspense and drama, with each chapter building tension that’ll have you flipping pages well past bedtime. It’s one of those thrillers where no one can be trusted, and the revelations are both satisfying and shocking. Perfect for fans who love a fast-paced, edgy mystery that keeps them on their toes right until the end.

I have been a massive a massive fan of Karen Rose for years and never miss a release. Cheater is book 2 in the San Diego Case files series with book 3 releasing next year.
Like all Karen Rose books this was a page turner. They are such big books but they never feel like it.
I always enjoy the mix of crime/mystery with romanctic suspense.
If you haven't read Karen Rose yet I highly recommend

I've been reading Karen Rose books from the beginning, but I'm the first to admit I dip in and out of them, I haven't read them continuously but I don't think it massively effects any storyline/plot.
Cheater is the second book in this particular series, and whilst it is most probably better to read the first, I found it easy to follow as a stand-alone.
A fatal srabbing takes place in Shady Oaks retirement home. Homicide Detective Kit McKittrick attends the scene and recognises the victim as a retired detective, Frankie Flynn, who had been known under a different name.
Soon after, another body is found
With the help of psychologist and retirement home volunteer, Dr Sam Reeves, Kitt has to try and unravel the mystery of this murder. Who is the killer, and why this victim? Can she, alongside her partner Connor, get their answers before anyone is hurt?
It is a great romantic suspense novel that is weaved intricately with twists and turns galore that leaves you with no choice but to keep reading, just to get the answers your brain is craving.
This is right on the line between a police procedural and romance novel. Cleverly woven together, it makes for a good read, but I did find it dragged at times, which was a slight negative.
Thanks to Netgalley and Headline for the ARC.

Good psychological thriller with the interesting addition of romance.
This can be read as a stand alone but better if you’ve read the first book.
The characters are well written and it’s fast paced but easy to follow.

A great murder mystery. A murder happens in Shady Oaks retirement home, very obviously murder. But by who and why. And when another resident dies, from what originally looks like natural causes, but things don't really add up, they start to realise there is a murderer attacking residents and when will they stop!
There are twists along the way and the characters are well written.

I good romantic suspence that I thoroughly enjoyed and kept me hooked and guessing.
Interesting characters, the right balance of romance and suspence.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Thank you for an arc of this book!
I have always loved Karen Rose and always get excited whenever a new book is released. This definitely isn’t my favourite one, but I still enjoyed it.
I liked the overall story and didn’t guess who it was very quickly which I really like, and the setting being in an assisted living place and returning characters. I just felt like it was way too long. Some things didn’t really contribute to the overarching story and I would’ve enjoyed it more if it didn’t have so much fluff. I wouldn’t read this one again, but hope there’s another in this series with Kit & Sam

Brilliant book, I love Karen Rose books and this is no exception. This is second in the series and it's best to read the 1st one before u read this.

Another great thriller from Karen Rose, following the San Diego characters we’ve come to love just as much as the characters from all the previous books.

Love love love love
Amazing , Karen is one of my very favourite authors to read.
Her books always capture you in the story , I’ve read every book she has published and I’ve never been disappointed

Karen Rose always produces a great romantic suspense novel but there's something about this particular series that makes me feel especially warm and fuzzy. The idea of 12 year old runaway Kit learning to trust the McKittrick family is so lovely.
Not that this is a sentimental tearjerker of a book. It features some of the most callous killers I've ever read about. There are lots of heartstopping moments and nail biting tension as Kit and Connor try to find out just what is really going on at Shady Oaks retirement home. And the truth horrifies even these seasoned detectives.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.
