Karen Rose always produces a great romantic suspense novel but there's something about this particular series that makes me feel especially warm and fuzzy. The idea of 12 year old runaway Kit learning to trust the McKittrick family is so lovely.
Not that this is a sentimental tearjerker of a book. It features some of the most callous killers I've ever read about. There are lots of heartstopping moments and nail biting tension as Kit and Connor try to find out just what is really going on at Shady Oaks retirement home. And the truth horrifies even these seasoned detectives.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

This is the second in this series
I think you need to read the first in this series to understand what is going on
It is a very good series and will keep you reading to the end
Thanks NetGalley

Set within a retirement village, this tale weaves together a tapestry of intrigue featuring three murders, infidelity, adultery, robbery, justice, and love. Amidst these complex threads, multiple compelling sub-plots unfold simultaneously, adding layers of depth and intrigue to the narrative.
3.5/5.

Great story. Well worth reading.
Thanks for the ARC and opportunity to read and review.
Looking forward to more from Karen Rose

Thanks to Headline and NetGalley for ARC.
Homicide detective Kit McKittrick attends a fatal stabbing in an upmarket retirement home on the outskirts of San Diego. She recognises the victim as a retired homicide detective, who had been known under a different name. As she and colleagues unravel that mystery as well as investigate the murder, she comes to rely on the insights and support of criminal psychologist and retirement home volunteer Dr Sam Reeves, despite having her own reasons for avoiding him.
This holds the line well between police procedural and budding romance and self-discovery. Sometimes the action drags a little, but the characters are so well drawn, it's impossible not to want all to turn out well. Some of the characters are too good to be true, including McKittrick's family and of course Dr Reeves. The plot is a little overcooked, but my, Ms Rose is good at her job. I had not known any of her work but I immediately went back to the first in this series.

Whodunnit?
Kit and her partner, Connor are investigating the death of Frankie Flynn. The care home where he lived is in turmoil and the race is on to find the killer before Frankie's remaining friends are hurt. Add to that the theft of a coin collection worth £4M, Kits adoptive family and close proximity of teh one man who she'd rather no be seeing right now, there is quite a lot going on in this book.
I found this enjoyable, but must admit it did drag a bit at the end.
Three stars but a good three star.

A very well written story with lots of clever twists & turns along the way to keep you gripped, along with lots of interesting characters too. #NetGalley, #GoodReads, #FB, #Amazon.co.uk, #Instagram, #<img src="https://www.netgalley.com/badge/8a5b541512e66ae64954bdaab137035a5b2a89d2" width="80" height="80" alt="200 Book Reviews" title="200 Book Reviews"/>, #<img src="https://www.netgalley.com/badge/aa60c7e77cc330186f26ea1f647542df8af8326a" width="80" height="80" alt="Professional Reader" title="Professional Reader"/>, <img src="https://www.netgalley.com/badge/ef856e6ce35e6d2d729539aa1808a5fb4326a415" width="80" height="80" alt="Reviews Published" title="Reviews Published"/>, I highly recommend this book.

I had taken a hiatus from Karen Rose as i felt like i had overdosed and we needed a bit of separation, but as the time felt right, what a book to come back to.
I forgot how well she writes and how captivating her crimes are. She has such a way of making you guess and ponder through out that you do not realised how engrossed you are till the big finish. With a dash of romance, the book hits you at all angles.
Will have to now back track and read all the books i have missed.

Another cracking read from Karen Rose, fast paced book that will keep you hooked. This book is hard to put down.

In Karen Rose’s second visit to the San Diego Case Files, we find Detective Kit McKittrick investigating a murder in a retirement community, Shady Oaks Retirement Village. The brutality murmured victim seems to have had a secret life. Shady Oaks seems to have quite a few secrets that Kit and the SDPD have to unravel.
On entering the residence Kit encounters Dr. Sam Reeves again. The tortured love interest.
We also find out more of Kit’s background and family life.
What ensued is an intense, emotional story with many twists and turns. Great character development and a heart pounding ending.
I found this very hard to put down.
I will definitely be keeping an eye on more of Karen Rose’s books.

I do hate to give low ratings but I genuinely found this book really boring. There was so many characters to remember and it felt like it was 100% talk and no action. I had to force myself to finish which is very rare for me. I did like the setting of the retirement home and some of the feisty elderly ladies but that wasn't enough I'm afraid, it was just all talk, talk, talk. The only excitement happened in the final 10% which was just too little too late. Thank you #NetGalley for the copy

When a dead body is found at Shady Oaks retirement home it is soon discovered that this was a murder case. After a second murder Detective Kit McKittrick alongside Dr Sam Reeves have to find this killer before there are more victims.
It has everything, murder, robbery, friendship, family, a fantastic read.
It is an adrenaline fuelled ride, brilliantly written with great characters.
Karen Rose is a great author and I am a total fan. She manages to bring the reader into the storyline keeping you gripped from the first to last page. Waiting with bated breath for her next book.

Another brilliant book by Karen Rose. Although written as part of a series you don’t have to have read the others to enjoy the individual books. I think the twists are so well set up you have to keep reading to find out how things happened. Seems like the romance could go on for a few more books yet

Another great Kit Mckittrick novel from Karen Rose (although it works just as well as a standalone) where she has perfected the art of giving us interesting, relateable and likeable characters that we care about who are solving crimes that provide thrills, twists and turns whilst giving us, (sometimes very frustrating) insights into their private lives, brilliant!

A great read from a great author!
Set in a palatial nursing home there is a great cast of eccentric and delightful (and some not so delightful) elderly folk, living out their best retirements...until the bodies start to pile up that is!
Kit and Sam are a great pair (whether Kit is ready or not!) and the investigation plays out at a pace suited to the environment- slow but steady.
There are twists but they are fairly gentle- the hook of the book for me was definitely the characters and my need for justice for them.
However the title lets the book down somewhat- it doesn't relate well to the tale for me.
That said I loved the book!

A retirement village, three murders, infidelity, adultery, robbery, justice, and love...
An interesting tale, with a few interesting sub-plots happening at the same time.

Twists and turns, murder and suspense. `This was an enjoyable read with interesting believable characters and a plot that just kept developing. This is not the first book in the series but all is explained so that is not an issue.

I enjoyed this book, it was well written with characters who were likeable and made me want to continue getting to know them.. A good plot, somewhat slow paced until nearing the end. Obviously a follow up but you don’t have to have read the first book to enjoy this.

A murder mystery set in a nursing home which is let down by a title which I did not think related particularly well to the story in that I couldn’t tell you which character it referred to - the victims, the perpetrator, the bystanders, the detectives? Other than that it had a well constructed plot and compelling characters - a detective with an interesting back story and a “will they won’t they” love interest, a nursing home full of characters with their own interesting back stories and potential motive - I’m just puzzled why, between them, the author and publisher couldn’t come up with a better title.
With thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this title.

Yet again, Karen Rose knocks it out of the park with Cheater.
We follow Kit and Sam as they investigate the seemingly motiveless murder of an elderly man living in a care facility, before his past - and other suspicious deaths - start to cause a dark scheme to unravel.
Kit and Sam finally get closer, and we see some old and new characters introduced (most of whom I’m hoping get their own story!)
I won’t give too much away, but if you’re a fan of Karen Rose then you know what to expect - an action packed thrill ride!
