Been a while since something by Karen Rose had come along and when it did, you realise you had missed her work. Excellent as always, with strong characters and story line. You won’t be disappointed, as if you ever would be with a Karen Rose book.

I've read all of Karen's books, and I have to say this isn't one of her best. The setting was a bit boring (a nursing home) and the plot was over complicated. You definitely won't figure it out before getting to the end, lots of twists and turns which I have to admit do keep you reading.

I do like the main character, Kit McKitterick, and her family. I look forward to reading more stories involving them.

It was an entertaining read but I also recommend reading her back catalogue if you haven't already for even better books.

This was another fabulous book in the Kit McKittrick series, this time situated around an old persons care home where a former homicide officer is found stabbed which is only the start of a tragic chain of events. Told from dual perspectives, that of Kit and also Dr Sam whom Kit has been avoiding for the last six months, but due to Sam’s volunteering at the care home and therefore close relationship with the residents she is forced to work closely alongside him again. This is a well woven and baffling crime, the care home is a fantastic location with some fabulous older residents and intriguing characters amongst the staff. The tension between Kit and Sam is very present but doesn’t detract from the story and it was great to catch up with the McKittricks and their ever expanding family. This was a real page turner with many interesting twists, the perpetrator wasn’t a huge surprise but that didn’t detract from my enjoyment and I look forward to reading the next in the series! 9/10

Thank you to netgalley, the author and the publisher for the advance copy to read.

As a long term Karen Rose fan I always enjoy her books. This a great police procedural book trying to chase down a killer.

I really enjoy the main character Kit in this series. She's a likeable woman with a sad background. I also loved the new characters in this story from Shady Oaks.

There is a little romantic suspense but don't read this for the romance as it's barely there.

I enjoyed it nonetheless and would recommend.

A lot of books usually either have a super good beginning or an amazing end. It's pretty rare for me to find one that has both but this defiantly had such a great beginning and all the way through pace that kept me wanting to keep reading like crazy and it also had an unforgettable ending.

Another in this series featuring Detective Kit McKitterick.. Interesting and engrossing as she strives to solve a murder in a care home. Some great characters old and young.

I had read the first in this series but it could be read as a stand alone although I didn’t enjoy it as much. Bit of a slow pace and I felt the romance aspect was too dragged out. An enjoyable enough read though.

I didn’t enjoy this book. The plot was too much- never want to see another key card again in my life. I didn’t really believe in the characters, except Eloise. Eloise was good and more 3D than the others. Dr Reeves is so accommodating it’s boring. I won’t read any more by this author. In her defence the plot idea was ingenious. Just too dragged out.

Shady Oaks is an expensive retirement home and the story opens with Detective Kit McKittrick investigating a murder there. It’s not long before the bodies are piling up.
This is the second in this series from Karen Rose, I haven’t read the first one (I will) but it works well as a standalone.

It is a good suspense/ mystery novel and if you have read any of this author before some are on the romantic side but this isn’t which suits me fine.

Thank you to Net Galley and Karen Rose for an advanced copy of this.

Fantastic second installment of The San Diego Case Files, featuring Detective Kit McKittrick. Kit is a homicide detective working to solve a thrilling, mysterious case. Kit, with the help of her partner and colleagues at San Diego PD, works tirelessly to unravel the case and catch the person responsible for the heinous crimes involved.

I read this book as an Arc via Netgalley, so I don't want to give to much away before the book is released, but I will say it was read in less than 4 hours and I couldn't put it down until a conclusion was reached.

I love a good mystery that grips you right to the final chapter, and this book lived up to usual high standard I've come to expect from Karen Rose.

What a brilliant book, and a first for me from this Author.
This book was very well written and I finished it in one sitting. A classic 'who done it?' with loveable characters ( a special mention to Georrgia & Eloise here...)
It is the second in the series, the first I haven't read but which I have just downloaded, but I felt it worked great as a standalone.

An excellent read that grabbed me from the start, so I couldn't stop until I had finished the novel. Well drawn characters that the author starts exploring right from the beginning of the book. Highly recommended. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for giving me a copy of the book, which I really enjoyed.

Welcome back Detective Kit McKittrick and psychologist Sam Reeves 😊
Although this is book two in the San Diego Case Files series it still works just as well as a stand-alone, but obviously I highly recommend book one, Cold Blooded Liar, one because it’s a great book, and two, you will understand Kit and Sam and their relationship a lot better which adds more depth and layers to the plot.
Set in Shady Oaks retirement village where Dr Sam Reeves volunteers, it all begins with a murder of one of the elderly residents and it is Kit’s job to find the killer and the Why of the seemingly senseless murder.
But things don’t stop at the one dead body. Soon she has three bodies on her hands all connected to Shady Oaks.
Shady Oaks retirement village isn’t a cheap place to reside and the old adage, Follow the money, is what cracks this case wide open leading the police, with the help of criminal psychologist, Sam, down a rabbit warren of lines of enquiry, none of them leading them in the right direction.
Are the victims close friends in danger? Is the threat internal or external? These are all questions that need answers and fast.
For me the two female residents of Shady Oaks stole the show in this book. Miss Eloise and Georgia Shearer. Their characters are brilliant and you can’t help but to fall in love with them!
It’s definitely a slow burner of a storyline, the same as the slow fragile flame of Kit and Sam’s relationship but it all builds up to an explosive ending.
As much as Shady Oaks has had it’s more than fair share of death and drama I hope that there will be another book with the brilliant old ladies as well as Kit and Sam. I’m not ready to say goodbye to them all just yet!
As always Karen Rose has delivered another stela masterpiece and delivered us with yet another binge worthy read.
