Thank you to McGarvey Black, Joffee Books and NetGalley for this ARC.
How much can one woman want to have a baby and what will she do to get it? An opportunity presents itself for Tori to have that baby, but her health, marriage and life will catch up to her. Tori never stops looking over her shoulder in this totally twisted, pulse pounding thriller that had be burning through the pages trying to piece together all of the clues and connections all the way through to the last page
McGarvey Black's page-turning thriller "The Baby I Stole" offers an intensely gripping and emotionally complex exploration of the lengths one woman will go to in her desperate quest to have a child. The story follows Tori, whose all-consuming yearning for motherhood leads her to commit an unthinkable act - stealing a baby from the beach when his mother seems to have drowned.
Immediately, we are drawn into the tumultuous mind of our morally ambiguous protagonist. Though clearly aware her actions are illegal and unethical, she nevertheless justifies taking this child in vivid and sympathetic detail, allowing readers into the irrational logic underlying such extreme behavior. As the plot unfolds at breakneck speed, the tension becomes nearly unbearable. Impossible dilemmas, chilling discoveries, and devastating twists all converge in an explosive and wholly unexpected climax that asks profound questions about the boundaries of morality when set against the basic human desire for connection.
On a day spent alone at the beach, a woman who has been longing for a child and has failed multiple cycles of IVF suddenly finds herself in a unique position. She can have the baby she wants but in order to do so, she will have to do something illegal. Needless to say, she does it.
This book was not a particularly gripping read for me. There are 3 major elements to the plot - twists, so to speak - and I guessed two of them early on. This was very much a plot driven story, so there was not much else in the writing to savour.
The best fit for this book would be a reader who is looking for a purely action-driven plot, and one who has not read too many thrillers before.
Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for an INCREDIBLE early copy of The Baby I Stole. So far this is the BEST Book I have read in 2024!!!! WHOA WHAT A HEART POUNDING ANXIETY RIDDEN NOVEL!!!!!! A train wreck of a plot, sooooooo many anxious moments. Right from the beginning, who does what Sasha did. Then what Tori does is even more mind boggling. I couldn’t sit still enough to continue reading, my heart rate was rising with each chapter. The last part of this story was UNREAL!!!!! Honestly one of the Most Gripping books I have ever read.
Well this was the book I didn't know I HAD to read until I had done it. In one day, mind you! It was soooo good! There are twists and turns right up until the end! I had read Twice on Christmas (and loved it) so when I saw that this book was by the same author, I knew I wanted to read it. As many people can relate, wanting a baby and actually conceiving a baby are two very different things. And sadly, too many of us are familiar with the struggles of sometimes not being to have a baby when we feel we are ready. or even at all. But what most people wouldn't even thing of much less dare to do, is to take someone else's baby! Highly recommend this book is all I can say without giving anything away--I was hooked from 10 pages in!
If twists and turns are what you like you will love this book! Had me not wanting to put it down for even a minute. What’s. Well written book that keeps you engaged with every page!
Not bad! Two women meet on the beach. One drowns and the other steals her baby and passes it off as an adoption. Secrets come out, Relationships are revealed. Who is setting who up? what is everyone's end goal. Doesn't end like you would think!
Thanks to NetGalley for the arc!
I ended up loving this book! Very fast paced and so many twists along the way! A couple I hadn’t even been expecting! Very easy to read and caught my interest early and kept me sucked in to find out more. When what I thought was the reveal was exposed around 85%, I had thought that was a little early, but oh my, there was more to come! Highly recommend!
