🫶🏻 ARC #13 of 2024
📚 18/100
I went back-and-forth on this book 🙈
I liked it. I didn’t like it. I liked it. I was annoyed by the FMC. The I was like okay. What. OMG.
And just like every other, @fmcfaddenauthor book.
In the end, I loved it!
Do you give an author credit for making such an annoying character, but then loving the book in the end? Solid four stars!!
I absolutely loved the ending. When I can guess what’s gonna happen, and the ending is what I predicted, I tend to rate it lower. BUT I didn’t see it coming and that’s always my freaking favorite. You always do it 🫠🫣🫢🤯
I have also never tagged narrators before. I feel like @lesliehowardnarrates and @dmontooth did a phenomenal job!!!
I will absolutely be buying this book to add to shelf! Thank you so much @netgalley @dreamscape_media and @fmcfaddenauthor for this phenomenal audio ARC!

Nathaniel, Nathaniel... do we all believe that you could only hide so much behind that Poe loving façade? Yes, we do. Your students love you, but it would be good for you to make sure your wife still loves you too. Otherwise, who could help you?
Eve, my dear... you are a teacher like your beloved husband. Maybe listen to both sides of the story. Maybe don't judge your students based on one thing one person said. You are a female too and it's men's world. everyone take their word over yours. Maybe don't trust them this much, huh?
And Freida, m'lady! You are walking all over us with your twists and turns. We are getting slapped left and right. I cannot get over that little name play you did at the end. This was the first book I read by you, but I'm hooked. Keep them coming in!
Freida McFadden has crafted another addictive, shocking, entertaining and twist filled book. I always know that I am in for a thrilling reading experience when I pick up one of her books. I listened to the audiobook version of The Teacher and thought the narration was fantastic.
Eve and her husband Nate are both teachers at a local high school. Addie is a student at the high school where Eve and Nate are employed. Last year she was involved in a scandal that rocked the school. This year, their paths will collide in this gripping book!
I loved the twists, turns, and reveals in this book. Oh, what a tangled web we weave! What a fabulous tale of obsession, secrets, lies and revenge! I enjoyed the character's POV's. They are not the most likeable bunch, which made this book even more entertaining.
Thank you to Dreamscape Select and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
"The Teacher" is a psychological thriller told from the perspectives of Eve, a math teacher at Caseham High School, and Addie, a sixteen-year-old student. Last year, Caseham High was rocked by scandal, with Addie at its center, and Eve is dismayed to find out she is in her class this year. Even worse, Addie also happens to be a student in Eve's husband Nate's English class. Eve knows that Addie can't be trusted, and she has already destroyed one teacher's life--or at least that's what everyone says. But nobody knows the real Addie, and she'll do anything to keep her secrets quiet.
If Freida writes it, I'm going to read it, so I was super excited to get my hands (and ears) on an advanced audiobook copy of "The Teacher." As always, she delivered an addictive, binge-worthy thriller that you won't want to put down with its fast pace, shocking twists, short chapters, unlikeable characters, and multiple POVs. There were a few cringeworthy (and disturbing) plotlines that definitely need a content warning. But overall, I could not put this book down and just couldn't wait to find out what happened next.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Leslie Howard and Danny Montooth, who were both fantastic. I am almost embarrassed to say that I was about a quarter of the way into the story when I realized that Howard was voicing BOTH Eve and Addie. She obviously did an amazing job distinguishing the two. I really enjoyed her intonation and the way her emotions really came through, especially how she added so much suspense to the cliffhangers at the end of chapters, which made me stay up way too late finishing "just one more chapter." Highly recommend this one on audio!
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for the ALC in exchange for an honest review.
The Teacher by Freida McFadden is a mind-bending psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. This is not my first McFadden book by a long shot, but has quickly become one of my favorites. Her storytelling prowess shines as she weaves a tale of trust, deception, manipulation, and best of all... revenge!
The character dynamics, with the mysterious and confusing Addie, are brilliantly crafted, keeping you guessing through the entire book. So full of twists and turns, you never fully see the final plot twist coming! The secrets and twists will have you eagerly turning the pages.
Freida McFadden's "The Teacher" is a must-read for all thriller enthusiasts.
Thank you Freida McFadden, the publisher, and Netgalley for this ARC of The Teacher.
Trigger Warnings:
Student/Teacher
Cheating
Manipulation
Bullying
An absolute masterpiece. Hands down Freidas best book. It’s well written with clever twists. I was invested right from the beginning.
This is a dramatic psychological thriller about a couple and their relationship with this problematic girl at the school they work at.
Last year Caseham High had a huge scandal and one student, Addie, was at the center. Eve is married to Nate and teaches math at the school and is dismayed to learn that Addie is in her class. Everyone believes that Addie is untrustworthy and destroys lives but no one knows the real Addie.
When I was approved for the ALC, not only was I screaming with excitement, but I stopped everything to listen to this book immediately. I listened to this entire book in ONE sitting. All day today, I had this book playing in my ear because I could not stop listening. The narrators did a phenomenal job bringing this story to life! I honestly didn’t like a single character because not a single was felt reliable, but I was so engrossed that I just needed to know what masterful twist was waiting ahead. At first I even thought… well maybe this is one Freida McFadden book I didn’t like but NOPE, I was wrong. The twist… the TWISTS were so good. The Teacher is a fast paced, addictive story with killer twists. Freida McFadden is seriously the queen of twists! Make sure you get your hands on a copy on publication day 2/6/24, this is one you do not want to miss!
Thank you NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press, and Dreamscape Select for the advanced copy and the chance to review it honestly.
Happy reading!
DNF 50% - Disgusting, repulsive, full of the most outrageous kind of vulgarity... It seems like ages I have read an author who stooped so low to describe sex between a tennager and an old man - not even the book "None of this is true" by Lisa Jewell, in which a 14-year-old teen and a 40-something old man have a relationship describes sex like this one. My first and last book by the author. I do not take any pleasure or satisfaction in reading anything so repulsive and so gross. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced audiobook copy in exchange for an HONEST REVIEW. Excellent narration- the narrator is superb and has nothing to do with the story.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this audiobook. I’m a huge Freida McFadden fan so I’m always eager to listen to her books. This book didn’t disappoint. The story gave me huge red flag 🚩 vibes from all the characters. Also the story was super messed up. When you read/listen you’ll know. As always i was very hooked to her stories and as always the ending blew my mind. Most of her books stock me. This one didn’t disappoint. The narration was amazing. The only reason for the star drop was because of the content was a bit much especially since it involved a teenager.
Thank you Dreamscape, netgalley & Freida McFadden for the audiobook ARC.
SHE HAS DONE IT AGAIN!
When this book started I really didn't know if it would blow me away and where it would end up. But of course Freida had me hooked and I just needed to listen to chapter after chapter. Well I can gladly say that she has worked her thriller magic again and produced an ending that was so clever and unexpected.
The subject matter itself was a bit uncomfortable (not unlike other thrillers so it's to be expected) however it was handled really well. The book was fast paced, twisted, and the plot so brilliantly thought out.
Highly recommend this one as a thrilling quick and satisfying read!
This was an entertaining read with lots of secrets and twists - the ending absolutely blew my mind! Both narrators were great.
Book Title: The Teacher
Author: Freida McFadden
Narrators: Leslie Howard and Danny Montooth
Publisher: Dreamscape Select-Hollywood Upstairs Press
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Pub Date: February 6, 2024
My Rating: 5 Stars!
Pages: 400
Story centered around three characters:
Eve, a math teacher happily married to the very handsome’
Nathaniel, ‘Nate’ who is an English teacher also at Caseman High School.
No one can believe that Eve and Nathaniel are married. We know that happily married to Nathaniel means
being romantic once a month as a mandatory obligation.
Addie a somewhat troubled young lady is a student at Caseman HS ~she is in Eve’s math class and Nate’s English class.
Eve knows she needs to keep an eye on Addie as she is the reason one of her favorite teachers resigned due to inappropriate behaviors.
Don’t laugh when I describe this audiobook as unputdownable - Trust me Freida McFadden does not disappoint. In addition, to “The Teacher” being a great psychological thriller; Ms. McFadden’s humor comes through .My first reaction to the ending left me with my mouth open and then I laughed and thought – ‘That Freida sure had me fooled!!’
I am a Freida fan and this is at least my fifteenth story and I certainly am looking forward to the next one!!!
Want to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Select-Hollywood Upstairs Press for granting me the pleasure of reading this awesome thriller.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for February 6, 2024
Oh my gosh, I was so tickled when I was approved for an ARC of this book..and I tried.. really I did.. to make it last.. but alas I wound up zipping through it in a day. The ending! Wowza. I loved it!
Another Freida Five Stars for me! Being a former teacher, this one did yuck me out quite a bit, but the plot was compelling, the characters were total train wrecks, and the twist at the end did not disappoint. I truly enjoyed listening to this one!
I will say that I DID guess the twist at the end of this one. Being able to guess the twist actually felt like a good thing to me though. I liked being right and even professed this loudly in the middle of my kitchen with an emphatic "I KNEW IT!" This made my family chuckle and they get a laugh at how much I enjoy finishing a good book :)
I listened to this story via audiobook and Leslie Howell did a fantastic job with her tone, cadence, and overall presentation. Although the second narrator also did a great job reading Nathaniel's pov, I didn't like the sudden switch to Nathaniel's pov after having the female povs throughout the rest of the story. It felt like it didn't belong there and created a small disconnect in the story for me while listening. This is the only thing that didn't quite fit for me though.
"The Teacher' will definitely be one that I will be recommending to my friends who love thrillers and who love Freida's books. This is also our "Daydreamers Bookclub" pick for February! I think they will enjoy it as much as I did.
**Thank you, NetGalley, Dreamscape Select, Poisioned Pen Press for the opportunity to read this arc early in exchange for an honest review.*
I LOVE Freida books. She is an amazing writer but her last 2 new books have missed for me. I knew going in that this book would have a teacher and student affair but being a teacher, it was hard to read. Not even that, the epilogue made me mad. I can’t say more but there was a ton of hypocrisy. If this book had nothing to do with a teacher and student relationship, I would’ve given the story 5 stars!!
This excellently written book is my favorite McFadden book yet, especially because it tells a good teacher-student story. I had the audiobook to listen to and I must say the narrator did each voice to perfection. Thanks to NetGalley for the advance copy.
I don't know how I felt about this one. I settled on 3 stars because I was at 5 stars overall for the execution of the book, but 1 star for the fact that it could have been literally any profession and not centered around child sexual assault.
Plot -
Eve and Nate are a happily married (or so it seems) couple, who are both high school teachers. When Eve mysteriously goes missing, Nate's dark secrets come to life. Addie is a high school student who believes she is Nate's soulmate.
Thoughts -
This book came together really well with all the plot twists. However, everyone seemed to be having sex with children. This wasn't a book that needed to be centered on that to make the story work, so it was a little off-putting. The story would have worked just as well if Eve and Nate were in any other profession and the cheating occurred with adults.
If you love Freida, you'll love The Teacher. It is yet another solid thriller, with surprising twists, uncomfortable characters, and a plot to pull you into way too many late nights of reading. We meet a cast of characters who all either attend or work at the same high-school, and of course their lives begin to intertwine in ways you'd never expect. As always with her novels, an entertaining read, but certainly not earth-shattering.
Will post review on bookstagram the week of publication.
Thank you NetGalley, Dreamscape, and Hollywood Upstairs Press for this arc of The Teacher. Wow! I was not expecting this! This book was a menace to society! This was the most darkest, unhinged, twisted, dark book I have read from Freida! I could not put this down. I could not stop listening to this. I only can tell you to prepare yourself, *spoiler* inappropriate adult/child contact. Be warned if it is not your thing.
I got whip lashed from this book. I was able to get over some things because this book was too damn good! I think Frieda had been publishing some mediocre thrillers and this one she did not hold back.
Well that was messed up… but in the best way. Freida McFadden is known for her twists, but this one had a twist that I didn’t see coming. There were some parts that were very predictable, but I was admittedly shocked at the ending. Before that though, the reader is given multiple perspectives: mostly Addie, a troubled student who has had a rumored past relationship with a teacher, and Eve, Addie’s math teacher who is married to Addie’s English Teacher, Nate, whose perspective we also get. Through the three, readers are taken on a journey of infidelity and inappropriate relationships. This isn’t just another student/teacher story; McFadden truly blurs the lines of good and bad in all of her characters. I devoured this audiobook in one day. The narrators, mostly Leslie Howard, were great performers who added to the tension of the story and really made Addie sound like a believable naive teenager. Getting Nate’s perspective in the second half of the book with Danny Montooth also added an extra layer to the story. The shoes from Nate’s perspective were an interesting plot callback, but the raven did cause me to suspend disbelief a bit. Also, speaking of plot callbacks, Eve’s shoe obsession was a little reminiscent of Dawn’s turtle facts in McFadden’s The Coworker, and McFadden’s loyal readers will love The Teacher just as much as that one.
