I am ashamed to say that this is my first Freida McFadden book! Rest assured that this will not be my last. I listened to this one on audio and it did not disappoint.

If you enjoy academic setting this one is for you. Eve and her husband are both teachers at the same school. Eve's husband, Nate has lost interest in her. She has no idea why, but she is over it and starts seeing a shoe salesman on the side. There is drama with another student that ends up costing them both big time. There were lots of twists in this story. It was a quick, enjoyable read!

"The Teacher" is intricately woven with a spider web of lies and deceptions, making it an enthralling and captivating read. As a seasoned thriller reader, I have learned not to take everything at face value and to expect the unexpected. This novel was a perfect example, with the final plot twist leaving me speechless. I was left guessing until the end, and the satisfaction of the unexpected conclusion was genuinely delightful. The author's ability to keep me on the edge of my seat and deliver a mind-bending ending made this book an exceptional read I highly recommend to any thriller fan.

Freida McFadden has expertly crafted Addie's storyline, creating a character that is truly one-of-a-kind. Addie's presence in the lives of Eve and Nate transforms their story into a gripping and compelling page-turner, setting it apart from many other books in the same genre. The novel is filled with secrets, suspense, and a number of unexpected twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It's the perfect book to curl up with on a relaxing evening, accompanied by a glass of your favorite wine.

Thank you, NetGalley, for a free and advanced copy of the novel.

Another winner from Freida McFadden! This was a crazy one, it was going along fine and then BOOM, twists galore that I did NOT see coming. I love that McFadden does this and catches you off guard, barely giving you time to recover. This was a great read, you really cannot trust anyone in here, and I loved how it all wrapped up. The audio was fantastic, I could not stop listening to this addictive thriller one once it got going. I definitely recommend you add this to your list!

Thank you to Dreamscape Select and Hollywood Upstairs Press for the ALC to review.

"The Teacher" by Freida McFadden is a twisty book. It's an engaging thriller - one of those books you can't put down, you just have to keep reading or listening straight through.
The narrators, Leslie Howard and Danny Montooth, did an excellent job performing the audio. The book has points of view told by Addy (the student), Eve Bennett (a teacher), and Nate Bennett (a teacher and Eve's husband). The story is rather uncomfortable to read as there is a teacher/student sexual relationship. Great character development and steady action make this a well balanced book.

People who like this author and/or twisty thrillers may like this book a lot.

With thanks to Netgalley, Dreamscape Select and Hollywood Upstairs Press for providing this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Many long time fans of McFadden will love this new twisty novel; however, for me it fell short. I loved the twists and turns, and do think she crafted a well plotted story here. The content was just too hard for me to get past as I felt myself physically cringing through a few scenes. Check the content and trigger warnings for this one; it just hit on a subject that is a hard NOPE for me.

Freida McFadden has become a staple in the thriller world. She consistently brings her A game, giving thriller audiences some of the best reads of the last few years. Her latest "The Teacher" deals with subject matter that will understandably likely turn away some on principle, however, the that stick around will find that McFadden does a good job at crafting a twistful story as she has proven she can do time and time again.

Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for an early listen to the audiobook.

Wow, did not see that coming. I binged read this book. I haven’t read a book in one seating for quite a while. Some things left me speechless. Really anything descriptive would potentially be a spoiler (imo). Another knock out of the park for Freida McFadden.

I usually enjoy the idea of an academic setting. However here I found less than ideal teacher role models. Check the trigger warnings.
There were a lot of twist and unexpected directions that this story took. I was surprised how easily it was to convince so many of the characters to choose the wrong things. Very few, if any, likeable characters in this.
While the writing was well done, content here was not great and characters seemed to lack any redeeming qualities.
Sorry.

Eve's husband, Nate, is perfect. He's kind. He's caring. He's handsome. But he rarely touches her. They have sex once a month, and she gets three kisses a day. They're both teachers at Caseham High. She teaches math, and he teaches English.

Addie had a difficult year last year, which resulted in a teacher getting fired due to allegations of him having a sexual relationship with her. Addie swears nothing happened, and he was just helping tutor her, but no one really believes that, so her year starts out with her alienated and bullied.

Both Eve and Nate have Addie this year, and Eve is worried that the girl will start trouble, but is she really the one Eve needs beware of?

I'll admit that this book has a good hook. It starts with someone burying a body. But whose body? And who is doing the digging? I was compelled to keep reading. In fact, most of the book is very compelling, I'll give it that, but most of the book is also very icky. In a move which surprises no one (especially those who've read McFadden before), Nate turns out to be the literal worst, a groomer and sexual predator, soon carrying on with Addie in an abandoned photography darkroom. But you know that McFadden has a few twists up her sleeve. (I think I counted 3.) The last twist, which comes during the epilogue of the book, ruined it for me. I won't say what it is but if you're dying to know, other reviewers have mentioned it. I was set to give this book a good review until that happened, and so I walked away from this book with a bitter taste in my mouth. I know there's a hierarchy of evil in McFadden books. We know that all of her characters are not great, but we have to have hope that there's at least one with at least some redeeming characteristics. By the end this book, unfortunately, we had none of that. I will say that this book hasn't soured me on reading McFadden in the future (as long as she stays out of child/adult relationship territory).

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ALC. Leslie Howard and Danny Montooth were great narrators and fit the characters well.

A twisty, dark domestic suspense involving an unhappily married couple of high school teachers and the affair between the husband and a student. I will admit I thought the author's books might have been over hyped but I did thoroughly enjoy this latest (and my first) that had a full cast of unlikable characters. Good on audio and definitely work picking up if you want an entertaining whodunnit! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

Frieda McFadden is definitely and auto-read author for me so I was elated to be accepted to listen to an early audiobook release of The Teacher. (The cover alone caught my attention).

The Teacher is a binge-worthy thriller. McFadden's latest psychological thriller is a rollercoaster of suspense and deception.

Addie is a high school student in the center of a scandal. Eve is a math teacher who is not thrilled to see that Addie is in her class. Their lives become entangled, and dark pasts and hidden secrets start to unravel.

Freida McFadden truly keeps you guessing to the final page. Just when you think you know what’s coming, she finds a new way to shock readers to the very end. This novel is a must-read for fans of the genre.

For audiobook fans, I recommend listening to this one. Lesley Howard and Danny Mootooth did a fantastic portraying the tone of the characters which added to the suspense. Although I did wish that there was a separate narrator for the two female POVs, Leslie did a fantastic job distinguishing both characters.

For some reason, I am just not a fan of Freida McFadden's books. This is the second book I have read from this author and it just gave me nothing. I wasn't excited to read it. I know this author is beloved by her fans, but I don't think I'm going to try again. I know this book will be a huge success for the author and I'm happy for them, but it's just not for me.

Freida McFadden is the queen of twists and psychological thrillers. I mean the ones that come out of nowhere and will have you rewinding back to make sure you heard what just happened correctly. Did that happen in this book for me, yes. A couple of times. If you’ve read a Freida book, you know how it is, but if you haven’t, you definitely need to try one of her books. I would highly recommend this one, and the audiobook for sure! Be prepared to be stunned. Also be prepared to read in one sitting because you won’t want to put it down! This was my fourth book by her and I’ve loved each one.

This one had me thinking one or two characters were crazy but when it all unfolded, it was definitely a different character. You will be entertained all the way to the very last page! Loved it!

Fans of easily consumable thrillers focused on the goings on among outwardly unremarkable people will likely enjoy this one. Short chapters create the impression of a fast-paced plot, but there was actually very little that happened until the last third of the book, and then in the final 10% or so, things began to happen very quickly. There was a very strong final twist though, which had me nodding in respect at the author because while for most of the book I felt things were moving along in a manner that was pretty predictable, that last one I did not see coming at all and it made this a four-star rather than three-star experience.

Great for a beach read, and for when you don't want/need anything particularly challenging; but if you want or need deep character development, vivid settings, or a 'why' that more fully explains the characters' motivations, you may not get it here. I'm learning that this is a very specific kind of thriller among a very wide range of tastes in that genre. I'm happy to have satisfied my curiosity about the buzz and excitement generated by this very prolific author.

DNF @ 49,2%

I was compelled by this story from the very first sentence. The narrator also has a very pleasant voice to listen to.

Sadly I discovered throughout this audiobook that there is apparently a trigger warning that I'm absolutely not comfortable with (I didn't know before that I had any deal breakers when it comes to books), being teacher-student relationships (38yo - 16yo in this case) and grooming. When reading the blurb it didn't repel me, but I think that's because it wasn't obvious to me that there would be such a relationship taking place in the present in this book, only the mention that one took place in the past. I tried to move past it and just continue listening to this book, but it was too uncomfortable for me to handle.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.

Another fast-paced addicting thriller from Freida McFadden.  The characters are unlikable, engage in bad behavior, and are untrustworthy.  Even with the predictable plot and twists, I found myself unable to pull myself away from the story until I finished.  I wanted to see how everything played out and it was so worth it.  As expected, McFadden left me with a shocking twist in the epilogue.

I love a good twist. But I like a twist to make sense. This had a pearler of a twist in the epilogue but it's so unbelievable that it lowered my rating for the book.

It kept me thoroughly intrigued and entertained but it was a bit cringey in some bits. It has love, lust, bullying, stalking, murder and lots of shoes. The risqué subject matter feels like it's from the 80's not a modern teaching setting. Seriously, how stupid was the main male character. In fact, none of the characters were appealing. The wife was a bitch, the teenage girl made way too many bad choices and the teenage boy was ok until the epilogue. But somehow, it was an enjoyable read (just suspend your belief for most of the book).

I find it hard to get sucked into a psychological thriller - yet this book did just that. From page one I was hooked! The plot holes, predictable scenes and unrealistic parts did not stop me from enjoying this. The characters, all of them, were terrible - yet perfectly created. I did not like any of them. I did not trust any of them. And I did not really care what happened to them in the book. A fast paced, quick read that is a must have for psychological thriller fans.

Thank you NetGalley for my advanced audio copy.

Eve and Nate have a pretty bland marriage and a routine life where each day they go to work at the high school where they are both teachers.
Addie is a student who was involved in somewhat of a scandal last year, involving a teacher getting fired.
Addie is in both Eve and Nate's classes this year, and all three of them are about to get tangled up in a new scandal.

I'm fairly hit and miss with this author. For me, the easy quick reads are a pro and that was definitely the case here. The issue I sometimes have with her books is a far-fetched plot twist, and I have mixed emotions on this one. First off, I really enjoyed the book. The plot is dark and a heavy subject matter, but it's real. The characters were all unlikeable, but not in a bad way and I'm sure this is intentional. It moved along quick and kept me entertained, and I certainly didn't have it figured out. I loved the ending for the most part, but I certainly felt a part of the ending left some plot holes. It was a great twist but could have been carried out better throughout the book. Aside from that, I really enjoyed the ending and this is certainly one of my preferred reads by this author. I listened to the audio and thought the narrative was very good, particularly the narration for the 2 female characters.

Narrated by Leslie Howard and Danny Montooth, the gripping plot unfolds at Caseham High, revealing a scandal involving a student-teacher affair. The plot thickens as it slowly reveals what happened and what is currently happening now.

Not everything seems as it is in this deception and revenge story. I don’t want to give away spoilers but gosh, I didn’t see that twist coming!

The narrator for Eve and Addie is exceptional!! The tones and inflections used were spot on for me.
Nate’s narrator was great too! We only got to hear a bit from him but he portrayed Nate well.

The story, seamlessly blends mystery and psychological thriller and high school
drama very well!!
