This Summer Will Be Different is so full of longing that it made my heart physically ache.
I loved this so much, it felt like a warm hug around a campfire, a cup of cocoa and toasted marshmallows on a cold night.
I love the way Carley Fortune crafts her love stories, and this novel is no exception. When Lucy flies to Prince Edward Island where her best friend, Bridget, is from originally, she meets a handsome stranger shucking oysters in a restaurant. The chemistry is instantaneous and as Bridget’s journey has been delayed, Lucy spends the night with Felix.
Only after their magic night between the sheets does Lucy realise that Felix is none other than Wolf (nicknamed for his screaming as a baby), Bridget’s brother and the man that Lucy swore not to fall in love with. Although the sexual tension is undeniable, Lucy and Felix swear they won’t fall into bed together again. Obviously, they don’t keep this promise and their romance develops over the span of five years.
This Summer Will Be Different flips between various timelines and Carley Fortune masterfully intertwines them to build suspense, tension and longing. I devoured the book in a day because I just had to know what happened next (or in some cases, before.)

I adored this book, the longing between the two characters was palpable and there are so many lines that express yearning in such a poignant way. I cried at the depictions of grief, loss and loneliness and couldn’t wait for Lucy and Felix to finally tell Bridget how they both felt so they wouldn’t have to hide their growing feelings for one another any more.

Prince Edward Island felt like a character in the book and made me desperate for a holiday by the sea, and to read Anne of Green Gables which threads through the novel. I enjoyed the development of the side characters as well as Lucy and Felix but ultimately I just wanted them to reach their happily ever after.

One of the best romances I’ve read in a long while.

Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the eARC.

Firstly I would like to thank Carley Fortune, Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of ' This Summer Will be Different '
I had previously heard so many positive things about this authors previous novels on social media and was excited to delve into this new release .

The setting for the book - Prince Edward Island was so beautifully described every scene became vivid in my imagination . Such a stunning setting to bring to life this heartwarming tale of friendship , love and family .

The story follows Lucy who travelled to the island five summers previously .Her room mate and best friend Bridget only gave her three rules : eat your weight in oysters , leave the city behind and don't fall in love with my brother . Unbeknownst to Lucy rule number 3 would be broken almost immediately when she meets Felix not knowing he indeed Is her best friends younger brother .

At first I didn't like the story and the direction it was taking , but by the middle of the novel Felix and Lucy's relationship started developing and I was enthralled and eager to find out what happens next.
Felix and Lucy's relationship was forbidden and this made it so much more passionate and all consuming.
The heart wants what the heart wants and I felt every emotion whilst Lucy realised that pursuing her own happiness could destroy the friendship with Bridget that also meant the world to her .

The chemistry leapt from the pages and the romance became a tense slow burn that pulled on the reader's emotions .

I ended up devouring this book and picking it up at every opportunity. Every girl needs a man like Felix in her life ... Supportive and a constant. A Friend to a lover and soulmate . The book just demonstrates how one night can change your life .

Due for Publication at the beginning of May I can't endorse this book enough for somebody wanting a comforting and uplifting read .

Lose yourself in a magical summer romance and follow the journey of Lucy and Felix over five complicated years. I adored this book - it sparkled with fun and crackled with chemistry. Carley Fortune has such a wonderful descriptive style of writing that lends itself well to fully immersing you in this books beautiful setting. If you need me I'll be researching flights to Prince Edward Island.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

I loved the previous two books by the author, so I had high exepactations for this one, but I must say I didn’t love it as much as other ones.

The biggest problem I have is the premise. The whole “don’t date my brother” restriction. I didn’t get this. Why? It seemed odd and backwards for a modern romance book. Also, the mystery around Bridget annoyed me a little bit, too, especially because I already disliked her for telling her best friend who not to fall in love with.

The romance itself was ok. Not as memorable or poignant as other books by the author, but I liked the two characters enough to hope they’d get together.

So all in all, it is an okay read. Not as brilliant as the author’s previous books.

“Every Summer After” is easily one of my favorite summer reads. I took it on vacation and was sucked into it from the beginning.

“This Summer Will Be Different” had the same qualities. In fact, I started it around 10 pm one night and could not go to sleep until I finished it.

I loved the setting, the characters, and the plot. Everything was well thought out and relatable. The fun Prince Edward Island location and a loving family make you want to jump through the book and get to know each and every character.

I have hopes that this book could become a mini series and I certainly would not mind a sequel. The characters drew me in and I will probably need sometime before starting the next book!

Thank you Carley Fortune! I needed this book!

I did enjoy this one, but I definitely liked it less than Carley Fortune's previous two! I didn't feel as invested in the romance, despite the great premise, and I think I got less of a sense of the two main characters – but the Prince Edward Island setting was great, and has very much reinforced the fact that I want to visit there after my Anne with an E obsession 😌 3.5 stars

This was a brilliant romcom and will make a fabulous summer read. I have enjoyed Carley Fortune’s previous books but this was hands down the best to me.
I instantly fell in love with the characters and the setting and found myself eagerly reading this in one afternoon. Whilst the slow burn forbidden romance story line between Lucy and Felix was brilliant I also really enjoyed the development of the storyline between Lucy and Bridget.
Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun summer read!

I was delighted to be approved for this one, I absolutely loved Every summer after and I really enjoyed Meet me at the lake too. This one did not disappoint! I love a romance where they keep spending time together after a lengthy time apart. Really enjoyed the writing style again, this author just knows how to write with such a beautiful flow. I think I’ll definitely buy anything she writes now, she makes me fall in love with romance so much!

This was my first book by Carley, and it won't be my last. I just loved this slow burn romance between Lucy and Felix.

Set mainly on Prince Edward Island Lucy visits her best friends house with a few rules, one of which was don't fall in love with my brother! But she only read the note after she had slept with him. Each year after, they end up in bed.

'This summer they’ll keep their promise. This summer, they won't give into temptation. This summer will be different.'

I loved everything about this book, the characters, the setting, and the premise of the storyline. The forbidden love chemistry just oozed off the pages. This is the ideal beach read.

I really enjoyed how these two meet. You could just see the story unfolding right from the start and whilst this can mean you're in for a predictable and boring book it was not the case with this most recent release from Carley Fortune.
Lucy and Felix, Lucy and Bridget - this is a story about strong bonds and real love between best friends and the HEA. Whilst I did truly love this book I wasnt overly excited by Bridget's reasoning for the last minute break to Prince Edward Island and found it as a secret to be a little frustrating in that I couldn't see what it added to the story.
Lucy and Felix have chemistry from the moment they meet and so the bond that grows through the years primarily as friends is the most romantic part but in the way that they support each other and not just these two but each of them is beautiful and beautifully written.

I received this as a free ARC from NetGalley. This is my honest review

🌟: 4.5/5

🌶: 1/5

Genre: contemporary romance

POV: single, first person

Tropes: forbidden romance, best friend’s brother, right person wrong time

Trigger warnings: grief

Synopsis:
Her first time visiting Prince Edward Island, Lucy meets a very friendly local who promises a good time. But when she finds out Felix is actually the brother of her best friend (due to arrive on the island imminently), they swear it can’t happen again. Over the years, the island has become Lucy’s escape from Toronto life, a chance to breathe. With every visit, she feels that spark of electricity growing. Is their story over? Or is it just beginning?

Review:
The tension that comes with a forbidden romance book is unparalleled.

This story jumps between timelines as we discover the true depth of the history between Lucy and Felix. The epitome of right person wrong time. If you loved “Love, Rosie” this ones for you 😭

There’s so many sweet moments between the main characters. The seeds and books is so simply written but so effective, my heart strings were being firmly tugged.

Special mention to Felix as a swoon worthy MMC - he READS!!! He knows his way around a kitchen! He braids her hair!!! But more than that, he showed maturity and communicated beautifully when it really mattered.

I loved Bridget and her significance to both MCs. The depth of her and Lucy’s friendship is the definition of girl soulmates 🩷

But how Bridget was acting during her crisis made me want to shake her!!! She was so secretive!! I was frustrated FOR Lucy when Bridget just wasn’t spilling the necessary info about why Lucy had been dragged to PEI.

If you love to truly feel a character’s development, you get that with Lucy. I felt all of her emotions through the years. I felt proud of her towards the end of the book. How her perspective on things changed.

The whole book I was questioning whether this was a HEA or not, it almost felt like the odds were too stacked against them.

Thank you to netgalley and penguin random house for an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

For once I’m reading a Carley Fortune novel around the release date and not leaving it for more than 6 months to get to it! Carley safely secured a spot in my go to author list after I read Every Summer After last year and loved it so I’m reaching for everything she writes!

This one has another absolutely beautiful setting - Prince Edward Island. In each novel Carley brings her settings alive and I absolutely loved the sound of PEI, especially the community and traditions. The story is set between PEI and Toronto and follows the story of Lucy and her best friend’s brother - Felix.

When Bridget first brings Lucy to Prince Edward Island one of her vacation rules is for Lucy not to fall in love with Felix. And of course what do we do when we’re told not to do something? We do it! Lucy and Felix have an immediate and strong chemistry and at first neither is aware of the true identity of the other. It marks the start of their relationship which is never quite brought to a close until the present timeline in the book.

Throughout the book there is a time flip between previous summers and visits to the island and the present timeline which builds the story of Lucy and Felix but also her friendship with Bridget and culminates in the hidden reason for their most recent visit. The story is romantic, focussed on friendship and self discovery. If you’ve not read anything from this author yet - what are you waiting for?!

Liked this a lot! Probably my favourite yet by this author - has all the hallmarks of her signature style (timeline jumping, second-chance romance, dreamy settings, slightly melancholic POV) but this one felt lighter than her previous two books. I grew up in Toronto and spent many summer vacations in PEI so just loved the setting - I felt nostalgic and homesick the whole way through. Will be happily hand selling this one all summer long just to have the excuse to discuss Anne of Green Gables

This Summer Will Be Different is an incredible story that absolutely lives up to the brilliant previous book by Carley Fortune. Carley's words carefully chosen, with powerful effect. The descriptions of Prince Edward Island are beautiful to the point that I needed to research more about the island to locate it and find out more. It's definetly added to my travel wish list.
The storyline is crafted into a incredibly well written story that takes the reader on a destructively emotional journey. The split time line tells the story over the past few years and slowly reveals parts of Lucy and Felix's interactions that have led them to the present.
It has all the makings of a classic story. One that I would revisit and an author I now follow for future releases as a must.

Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review. This is my first book by Carley Fortune and I was looking forward to reading it as I have heard many good things about the author. I certainly wasn’t disappointed as I absolutely loved it! It definitely gave me CoHo vibes which is always a good thing. I loved the friendship between Lucy and Bridget and especially the relationship between Lucy and Wolf. I felt as though I watched their relationship grow and blossom until eventually they were both ready. I also adored the descriptions of PEI. It sounds such a beautiful and tranquil place. Overall a fabulous book and I will definitely be looking for more of this author’s books. 5 stars.

I read ‘This Summer Will Be Different’ by Carley Fortune and gave it 5 stars.

This book follows Lucy over the years in ‘then’ and ‘now’ from her first moments visiting her best friend Bridget’s home (Prince Edward Island) and meeting Felix, and going back there again years later when Bridget unexpectedly ups and leaves days before her wedding.

Lucy meets Felix at a restaurant and they immediately hit it off. The chemistry between them is instantaneous and I enjoyed the way they bounced off of each other. There is a LOT of angst in this book which I always love. Mostly, I loved just how Felix and Lucy knew the little things about each other. It’s so clear despite the arrangement Lucy and Felix have that they care so deeply for each other. The year before the ‘now’ chapters broke my heart.

I loved the sisterly relationship Lucy and Bridget had. We get to see all the memories Lucy and Bridget share over the years fleshed out. Even Felix and Zach were fun. I won’t lie I do think Bridget made the secret bigger than it needed to be for what it actually was.

I absolutely need to mention the setting. I’ve never been to PEI but I absolutely want to if it’s truly what it’s described like in this book because it painted such a pretty picture in my head. The seaside, quiet roads, the beach etc. I just wanted jump into the book. Also all the Anne of Green Gables references - loved it! Felix and Lucy even go to Green Gables at one point are firing off quotes at each other like it’s nothing.

It was a really great book and I think it might be on par with ‘Every Summer After’ as my favourite Carley Fortune book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random
House for this e- ARC.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book told in d dual timeline. Now and Then, in the lead up to Lucy's best friend's wedding.

The book is atmospheric and evocative. I felt like I was on PEI with the characters.

This is one of those books that you read for the feelings, in the getting swept away from it all. It is highly emotive which I love. The plot really plays a secondary role.

My favourite character was Felix. I now feel I know him inside and out. His love story is a beautiful one.

Highly recommend as a thoughtful, stunning summer read.

All the stars.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.

This was a perfect and addictive summer romcom that I couldn't put it down. I read it all in 24 hours as I couldn't put it down. I absolutely loved the island setting and it transported me out of gloomy February. I loved the romance and the chemistry between them.

After loving every summer after I had super high expectations for this one; that I’m not sure were 100% met unfortunately.

Parts of this were fantastic. I loved the friendship and the setting. The meet cute was also lovely. But they were definitely a few things that needed more attention.

My main issue was this had next to no real focal point. The ‘wedding’ storyline goes nowhere until almost 80% into the book, so everything up until this point is about their relatively mundane day-to-day lives.

I also really wish the timeline was written differently as having some chapters start with ‘six days before the wedding’, some as ‘two years earlier’ and some as ‘now’ was really hard to keep up with! I think this would’ve maybe worked better as a ‘June 2018, six years ago’ type format.

I think plenty of readers will adore this, but I couldn’t help but wish for slightly more from it.

Also note to the publisher / Ed’s there’s what I believe is a mistake at the 45% mark. It tells the story of Lucy’s cousin who passed away at the age of 35 then says ‘Lucy’s marriage to a minister was a challenging one, there’s debate over whether she took her own life’ when it’s definitely still talking about Lucy’s cousin!

This is hands down my favourite Carley Fortune book! I’m a sucker for the best friend’s brother trope and this was just perfect.

Lucy (Bee) arrives at Prince Edward Island and meets Felix. Their chemistry is undeniable and they end up spending the night together. It’s pretty hot and the spice is immediate (smut lovers will not be disappointed) but things get a little awkward when she learns Felix is actually her best friend Bridget’s brother, who was warned to stay away from. Despite their promise to keep things friendly, their relationship continues over the next few summers.

This was more than just a romance story, it was a story about friendship and the deep connections we have with people that aren’t family and how sometimes the ‘greatest loves are not always romances’.

I’m such a huge fan of Carley’s writing style, particularly the dual timelines and just how beautifully she describes everything, I felt like I was with Lucy on the Island! Definitely a must read!

Thanks NetGalley and the Publisher for providing me with this digital arc.
