4.25⭐️ I absolutely ate this up - the perfect summer read with a bit of substance, but not too cringey or fluffy. It’s giving Emily Henry, Abby Jimenez vibes, and I’m definitely going to check out Carley’s other books now. I loved Lucy and her journey, and I LOVED Felix, and their ability to communicate and respect for each other. Could have been about 50 pages shorter, but other than that I really enjoyed it.
Thanks so much to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the ARC.
Thank you to Netgalley for giving me an ARC!!!

I loved the summer vibes in this book! So if you are looking for a summer book for this summer, I recommend this one! Felix and Lucy's chemistry was insane. I feel like you really feel their chemistry because you see them getting closer over several summers and the tension between them and how they can't stay away from each other when they are near each other. I just loved them and their chemistry. I loved that we got to see Felix & Lucy not quite make it work for so long but kept finding their way back to each other each summer. It felt like a very realistic romance. I also loved that it showed that they had to both sort their lives out before they could be together and I appreciate that as I feel it was very realistic.
Now, there were a few things I didn't like such as most of the story was quite predictable and there were parts of the book where I felt it was repeating itself and that is when I got a little bored. Another thing I can't really explain as it is a spoiler but all i am going to say is I would have liked a better reaction (trying not to spoil anything lol).

I did not like this book at all.
The prologue itself is a raging red flag. Lucy is visiting her college bff Brigettes hometown Prince Edward Island one summer, when she arrives ahead of time. She pops into a bar, sees a guy shucking oysters and her ovaries start to spark fizz crackle. Undeterred by the smell of fish, the guys name being Felix, and with ‘lightning down her spine’ to propel her, Lucy rides Felix the first night they meet. But the next day during the awkward wakeup, they realise Felix is bff Brigettes brother. The insta lust made me want to DIEEEEE. Spark, fizz crackle oh lord. And she had no idea, not even an INKLING that he could be her besties brother 🤔 hmmm. Mighty convenient.
Chapters alternate between past and present. In the present day, Brigette is 8 days away from getting married but begged Lucy to drop everything to come and stay with her at the island again. She needs her. It’s an emergency. It will be like all the other summers. But refuses to tell her why 🙄 Bridgette has also summoned Felix because she needs her brother and bestie to support her.
In the past, we get to see all the times Lucy and Felix hook up. And in the present, we see Lucy trying not to hook up with Felix again. Because this summer will be different. She’s convinced. But who knows why 😂😂
Essentially:
Past = Lucy rides Felix
Present = Lucy tries not to ride Felix and fails. And also tries to find out why her friend is having a meltdown. She then finds out. The end.
That’s it. Nothing else happens in this book. There is zero relationship development between Lucy and Felix. Nothing deeper than physical attraction. I was so bored of Lucy trying not to hump every item of furniture each time Felix so much as breathed. And then Lucy and Felix just give in 🤣🤣 finally succumbed to their raging hormones??? It was just like ‘yeah ok. I’m over trying to resist you’ 🤣🤣🤣🤣 easiest decision made.
But Bridge was too busy being a drama queen whenever Lucy or Felix asked what the hell was going on. And the big reveal for why she was flaking out 😑😑😑😑 my god. My eyes still haven’t rolled back.
Not for me!
i've just finished this summer will be different and i loved it! it took me ages to read because of my slump and being busy the last few days but i devoured this book from the 50% mark! i was hesitant reading this book because while i liked the first book the second really was a big miss for me so i was unsure if this author is for me but this book proved me wrong!
i LOVED LOVED LOVED the friendship aspect in this book. bridget and lucy are best friends and i adored them together. they are an example that love doesn't have to be romantic. they are the purest souls, always supporting each other through thick and thin. i want a
friendship like theirs.
i love how it covered reconnecting with friends and finding joy in self love and doing things by yourself. you don't
NEED someone to have fun with, sometimes it's just a plus.
the actual romance in this book was so good! it had me hooked from the start! felix is something else. i loved his growth in this book, seeing how he developed as a person emotionally and physically. the words that come out of his mouth are so poetic i could get lost in them. he's such a dedicated and loyal being i love him
i also LOVE that this book covered lucy's self reflection and her dealing with loss and grief of many aspects of her life. i loved her journey of healing and self acceptance and that she sought for happiness within herself before anything or anyone.
this book had me gasping, giddy, SOBBING, laughing and it genuinely made me happy!!
one thing id change is the whole shucking thing, like mention it once or twice but it was quite a prominent event in the book it was kinda weird
firstly, i thought this book was a very interesting read. it was enjoyable and the characters were loveable. lucy is a tourist who is vacationing at a beach house on an island. felix is the only local who shows her a good time. however, lucy doesn’t know that he’s her best friends younger brother. their chemistry is unreal and they are so so drawn to each other that it’s difficult for them to stay away from each other. carley fortune does it again!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really enjoyed reading Felix and Lucy’s story. I don’t normally enjoy a slow burn but I did this time. I saw the necessity of it. I enjoyed the duel timelines which I really felt added to the story. They were definitely needed to understand how things had gotten to where they were.
I loved the growth Lucy showed throughout. She really came into her own and I loved that everyone let her without telling her what to do.
My only downside is I don’t think I’ll remember this book for long but I really did enjoy it!
I was kindly given an ARC of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this soooo much and will be picking up every Carley Fortune book I can get my hands on! You have to read it.
This is such a FUN read! I love stories that have a big focus on setting, and Prince Edward Island was such a focus in this book it practically had its own character! There were so many times I felt like I could smell the salty sea breeze!
This is a forbidden secret romance between FMC Lucy and her best friends brother! The romance is so well written, talk about men written by women - I LOVE Felix!!! Sweet & spicy is how I’d describe the romance.
Absolutely impeccable spice scenes, the perfect balance of fade to black and giving us a flavour of Felix (literally). I found that a really fun element in this book!
This is such a perfect summer romance with just those two elements alone, but what really pushed this book into 5 stars for me was Lucy’s relationship with her best friend, Bridget. It reminded me so much of my bestie and I. Bridget’s character was so well rounded and the banter between them felt sisterly as well as capturing the tension that’s typical for close adult female friends but I so rarely see it written about.
I can’t wait to read more from Carley Fortune!
This is my first Carley Fortune read - thanks NetGalley. In 'This Summer Will Be Different' we follow the story of Lucy, a character who seems to be wholly consumed by her devotion to her best friend, Bridget (referred to as B throughout the book). Lucy's obsession with B is palpable, to the point where readers are constantly reminded of how she would do anything for her. This unwavering loyalty becomes a central theme that drives much of Lucy's actions and decisions, often overshadowing her own needs and desires.
One aspect of the plot that feels somewhat implausible is Lucy's ignorance of Felix's identity as B's brother. In an age dominated by social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, it seems almost impossible for someone as connected and observant as Lucy to miss such a significant detail. They then continue to sleep together for 4 or 5 summers without talking about any feelings at all. And after their last dalliance, they literally go months without speaking.. bizarre.
At one point I was slightly confused as the book briefly touches on Felix's concern for Lucy's well-being. There is a poignant moment where Felix asks Lucy if she is okay, revealing that both he and B have noticed her recent preoccupation with her flower shop and are genuinely worried about her. However, their inability to pinpoint the exact cause of her distress feels somewhat unconvincing, given their close relationship with her. I was left a bit confused to be honest.
Another frustrating aspect is B's expectation for Lucy to drop everything without explanation. This dynamic highlights a certain imbalance in their relationship, where B's needs consistently take precedence over Lucy's. The lack of transparency from B is frustrating and somewhat manipulative. Lucy's willingness to comply without demanding a reason underscores her deep-seated need to please B, raising questions about the healthiness of their friendship. As a reader, one might expect Lucy to insist on knowing why she is being asked to make such sacrifices a few days before her best friends wedding and rearrange a huge opportunity that would bring in a lot of money for her shop. In the end, the explanation of why B needed Lucy to go to PEI didn't seem that big in my opinion. I thought perhaps a cheating scandal, a pregnancy loss perhaps but the reason was not compelling.
Overall, "This Summer Will Be Different" explores the complexities of friendship, loyalty, and personal boundaries. If you are looking for a romantic summer read, then I would recommend as it was a 'nice' story but I don't feel like anything significant really happened throughout the book.
I adored this, I absolutely believe this is Carley’s best work so far.
Similar to her last 2 books this one is also dual timeline and second chance (no cheating in this one though). Like in previous books, Carley also does a great job of dealing with the theme of grief and how it can hit when least expected, and I love the way Lucy gets support through it while also knowing she has so much she needs to work through by herself.
I loved the connection between Felix and Lucy and the way it’s constantly shown to be inescapable no matter how hard they try.
I loved this book so much. Carley Fortune is an auto buy author for me. I have loved her previous 2 books and this was no different. The setting, the characters, the tropes I loved it. So well written with complex and interesting characters and plots. I can’t wait for the next one.
I absolutely devoured this book. The way it made me feel, I feel that this book is so perfect for summer. This book is by far my favourite carley fortune book. One thing about carley fortune is the way she describes the places in her books. It’s so vivid and really transports me to that place because one thing about me when reading, I always see a movie playing in my head and this book really delivered! I love Lucy and Bridget’s friendship and I feel a connection with Lucy when reading this book because I too sometimes can be too focused on my own career and everything else just comes as second. I definitely will recommend this book to everyone I know~
Can Carley Fortune do any wrong? Not in my opinion - she’s back with a bang, delivering us another summer sizzler and it is SO good 😍
I very much enjoy books that take place over a long period of time and that is what we are treated to in This Summer Will Be Different: the blooming romance between Felix and Lucy summer after summer was an absolute dream to read, their chemistry was off the charts 🔥 the whole falling for your bestie’s brother/forbidden lover was executed seamlessly.
I adored the primary setting of Prince Edward Island 🇨🇦 Carley brought it to life beautifully and I’ve never been interested in trying an oyster until now. I could taste the salty sea air and hear the waves lapping in the ocean.
There is so much to love about this story, it’s the perfect sweet summertime read! 🌞🩷
I really enjoy Carley's books, they are an easy read and and escape from the world.
We follow Felix and Lucy's story, the struggles they face and how they realised they need to work on themselves before committing to a relationship.
I really enjoyed reading how they built upon their relationship.
I will be keeping an eye out for future releases by this author for sure!

This summer will be different ARC Review
4/5 ⭐️
This is my second Carley Fortune book and it did not disappoint. I recently read every summer after and loved it. This story was the perfect mix of spice, charm, romance and friendship. It was the perfect book to escape into as a summer read.
This book follows Lucy on her visits to her best friend Bridget’s hometown of Prince Edward Island over the course of about 5 years. Set in between Toronto and Prince Edward Island. I loved following Lucy’s relationship developments with both Felix and Bridget and her fondness for her Aunt Stacy.
You should read this if you enjoy
Forced proximity
Summer romance
Best Friend's brother
Off limits relationship
Friends to lovers
Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin for an ARC of this book.
I’ve read a few of Paige Toon’s books and they have all been 5⭐️ reads but this one right here has took the top spot ❤️
An absolutely beautiful yet emotional love story. Paige has this very special way of making you fall in love with all of the characters and making them come alive. The atmospheric description of the Cornish coast was just pure perfection too 🥰
𝐒𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 follows Liv, finishing university and coming back to the Cornish coast where she falls in love with Fin, an upcoming musician.
When tragic events change the course of her life, Liv has to remain in Cornwall while Fin has to return to his life in LA.
They make one promise, to return every summer as long as they are single.
However, Six summers later Liv meets Tom where she feels she won’t have to get her heart broken every year. Now Liv must make an impossible choice…..
As for love triangles this is one of the most grown up ones I have ever read. I was turning those pages as fast as I possibly could. I needed to know what was going to happen next. The book is full of angst and pain yet so so beautiful at the very same time.
I experienced every single emotion whilst reading this book, my heart was in my throat.
Just stunningly beautiful…..that is all! ❤️
Book contains -

I loved this book! While reading it gave me all the feels, the heart dropping angst, the fluttering of butterflies in my stomach, the giddy feeling with a big, dopey smile going across my face. Everything I need and require to make a romance a 5 star read for me!
This summers beach, garden, or just about anywhere read! I had already read to books by this author and find her style perfect and easy to sit back and relax. This book drew me in from the first couple of pages. Swoon worthy. Definitely recommend.
What a lovely and emotional read! Definetely my favorite from the author. I really enjoyed how realistic the romance felt and how real our main characters were.
I would highly recommend
This is such a perfect read for summer, I've read two of Fortune's books before and she always amazes me with her writing. I will be recommending this to my friends, as I really enjoyed the premise & setting of this book.
When Lucy visits the idyllic sounding Prince Edward Island she meets the lovely Felix and is impressed with more than just his oyster shucking skills!! However when she discovers he is actually the brother of her best friend Bridget she knows she has to keep her distance, but that’s easy said then done.
I loved the setting of the book and Felix made a great leading man but for me it didn’t quite live up to my expectations after loving Every Summer After so much last year. It was a lovely romance with just the right amount of spice but found myself starting to lose interest towards the end, and the big reveal the book had been building up to came as a bit of an anticlimax.
However, would still recommend those who enjoy a summer romance to give this a try
