A solid collection of profiles centered on a reasonable theme. The figures here are a solid collection, representing a variety of disciplines, disabilities, and regions. The profiles are short but may inspire further reading.
A powerful and uplifting collection of stories for young readers, middle grade and teens that shine a light on the remarkable achievements of individuals with disabilities. The book introduces readers to thirty inspiring individuals who have overcome challenges to pursue their passions and make significant contributions to various fields. What stood out to me was the wonderful way in which the stories are presented, accompanied by vivid illustrations that bring each narrative to life. Represent! Is a celebration of diversity, strength, and the incredible potential within us all.
Buckle up, bookworms! Represent! is not your typical snoozefest; it's a rockstar lineup of awesome individuals breaking barriers like it's nobody's business. Imagine a surfer conquering waves with a prosthetic leg, a Broadway sensation rolling onto the stage in a wheelchair, and an artist creating masterpieces with his foot. This book is a feast for your eyes and a kick in the inspiration department. From gold-winning sled hockey champs to a blind explorer conquering kayaks and cliffs, these stories will make your jaw drop and your heart soar. Why should you read it? Because it's not just a book about people with disabilities; it's a wild ride through the landscapes of triumph, courage, and sheer awesomeness. Get ready for a dose of inspiration that'll leave you shouting, Represent! from the rooftops!
There are lots of these sorts of books around at the moment, providing one page biographies of different people but I would say that this is one of the better ones. The book is packed with famous and not so famous people with disabilities, who are absolute masters in their fields. What I particularly enjoyed is that the people chosen for this book all do things that children and young people can relate to and be inspired by. Some of these books relate to people so long ago that their achievements, however incredible, are difficult for young people now to relate to and this is not the case here. There are a couple of typos that I am sure will be sorted before the book goes to print, but other than that, an excellent book.
