I binged this series so far, going from Silver Under Nightfall into Court of Wanderers in quick succession. This is so typical for a Rin Chupeco series, I can't get enough once I've had a taste.
This book followed our favourite power throuple as they navigated the vampire courts and gathered allies to continue the fight against The Night Empress. This fight happened on two sides, with some action-packed battles alongside the humans and on a more personal level for Remy as he comes to terms with his mysterious and absent mother figure being responsible for so much chaos and carnage across the kingdom.
My favourite part of this book was the increase in spice level. This isn't the spiciest fantasy romance book out there but it is definitely seasoned well by Chupeco. The polyamory dynamic really came out to play this time and there was a rise in sexual tension as it brushed against the BDSM aspects of submission required to be a court familiar and the bratty mischievous side of Remy, particularly when it comes to goading Zidan into a reaction. One thing I wished we saw more of, were the private interactions and conversations between Zidan and Xiaodan. On page, we often hear the aftermath of "we talked", "we decided" or "we discussed" but we don't ever see how those conversations play out. It would be interesting to know how their power dynamics interact before they settle on an outcome and present a united front to the rest of the characters.
I loved that as readers we can better understand Zidan's pain by his emotional reaction to returning to a setting that was so prominent in his darker moments. I also appreciated the calmer, lighter side we saw of him while learning about his court and the kingdom he sought to build after escaping his dark past. Despite being the quietest of the 3 main characters, I think this means we understand him on a much deeper level.
I hope we get to do this with Xiaodan in more detail, as currently she can still feel a bit one-dimensional and has yet to let us in on her formative moments as readers.
I entered this book really disliking Remington's father and although I do think he got off lightly, it was nice to follow his journey to confronting his past choices and how they impacted his wife and child.
The book ends on a bittersweet note and I was tearing up with the emotion behind it all, I'm glad Remy is beginning to be noticed for the right reasons and treated respectfully, like he deserves.
I wholeheartedly recommend the audiobooks, the narrator does a great job at differentiating between the characters using voices and accents so you're able to follow along with dialogue easily. One note of feedback, is Zidan and Xiaodan's names sound far too similar on the audiobook, particularly when sped up, so until I became familiar with the characters there was some confusion for me about who was being referred to and if they shared a name as betrothed. As the series has gone on, this has lessened. There were also some great moments of zombie-like sound effects and battle cries, which added to how immersed I felt in the story.
Thank you Hodder & Stoughton & Rin Chupeco for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
A court of wanderers by Rin Chupeco captivated me with its deliciously daring queer vampiric fantasy of epic proportions. Chupeco's creation of vampire and human courts immerses the reader in a world of courtly glitter, love, lust, and just the right touch of smut (most scenes tastefully fades to black). The story is rich with intrigue, spies, betrayal, and bloody battles, all woven around a diverse and vividly portrayed set of characters.
The narration by Matthew Spencer is utterly competent, with vocal energy and flexibility that brings the characters to life in a mesmerising way. Spencer’s has an incredible ability to modulate his voice to vividly lift the characters off the page and into our minds. I always knew which character was speaking. Just like Chupeco's storytelling, the narration is sensuous, commanding, and undeniably seductive.
This book is a triumph that promises a wonderful bite for vampire fans.
The conclusion of the duology sees Remy, Xiaodan and Zidan meeting with the other heads of the vampire courts to try and defeat the Night Empress - who was revealed to be Remy's long believed dead mother. The politics between the courts plays out against Lord Penderghast (Remy's father) bringing an army of Reapers (Vampire hunters) alongside altered mutations which answer to him - or do they..? The relationship between Remy and the 2 vampires deepens and there are a lot of moments that are quite sweet when they're supporting each other in their various states of distress and injury. There are also quite a lot of pretty filthy bits of dialogue between them which is a bit jarring at times as the steamy scenes are off page but then you're dragged back into being reminded they've got a very healthy sex life between the thrupple! I thought this was a good ending to the duology, I did prefer book 1 as I liked seeing Remy come out of the shadow of his father and start to live in a way he was happy with, but his arc in book 2 was great. It was also good to see supporting characters such as Elke, Eugenie, Paolo and Riones back and expanding their roles more. I'm sad to be out of this world now its over which is always a good sign! The narration was excellent, continuing on perfectly from book one and fited the tone of the book to a tee.
I absolutely loved this, maybe even more than Silver Under Nightfall.
Remy is really coming into his own in this one, and not just him, Xiaodan and Malik have lots of good character development as well.
Also, I love how loving and tender and protective, yet not restricting their relationship is. Many great moments in this one (including some spice).
We also get to know many of the side characters better, as well as met some new interesting ones. Old antagonists may or may not become allies, while fighting different villains.
The plot was exciting and kept me on my toes from start to finish, but don’t worry, the characters get small moments of downtime in between.
The narrator did a great job as well.
I love this book (series) and the characters so much and really hope that there will be more books (couldn’t find any info online), because I am absolutely not ready to let this world go.
Thank you so much for letting me listen to this audiobook. I very much enjoyed listening to this audiobook. I liked the narration and yes I also enjoyed the story. can i just say these vampires are very cool.
It turns out I don't care anymore what will happen in this sequel!

Reaper Series had the potential but I think it couldn't use it. In the world of reapers, vampires, humans, and different courts and kingdoms, with the deceptions and ways of diplomats, old secrets, and conspiracy...
We face with ... NOTHING.
I was hoping this book would explore the potential of Silver Under Nightfall, but it failed to deliver. The story continued even flatter than before, at least, till I the where I read.
As for the romance, which was the main focus of the book, and caused other important elements to be sacrificed, well, sorry I am saying that...
But the romance was the most unbelievable I've ever read.
I enjoyed listening to the audio version of the book, which was narrated by Matthew Spencer, thanks to Hodder & Stoughton via NetGalley for ARC. I hope this works for you better as wasn't for me, and it is set to be published on 2 April 2024.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book.
Ever since I read Silver Under Nightfall back in 2022, I have been recommending it to everyone because it's so good and deserves so much more hype.
I mean, epic vampire fantasy, a poly relationship, and sci-fi elements? It's just all so cool.
So, of course, I was really excited for the sequel, and while I prefer book 1, I did have a good time with Court of Wanderers as well.
I really loved that the book expanded on the world and that we met different players. However, it did get a bit lost in the politics. To me, it felt a bit convoluted and there were some parts where I was close to being bored.
It helped that there were quite a lot of spicy scenes mixed in, though they were mostly fade to black, they help elevate the mood a bit for me.
I still love Xiaodan and Zidan; they're the best and definitely my favorite part of the book. Remy is okay. I like him, but he annoyed me at times. The tension between him and Zidan was so good, though! I would have wanted a bit more relationship development, to me, it didn't feel like much depth was added here.
The ending felt a bit anticlimactic and rushed to me. We had such a long build-up, and then it all was resolved kind of quickly. I also would have wanted more emotional moments toward the end or a longer epilogue.
Overall, this was a decent sequel, and I enjoyed it for the most part, but honestly, I feel like Silver Under Nightfall could have been written as a standalone. I still recommend this duology and stand by what I said about it deserving more hype, but book 1 was a book I wholeheartedly recommended, while book 2 is more like "read it to finish the duology but if you don't it's also fine".
I really enjoyed the narration in the audiobook. I also had the ebook ARC and I think I actually preferred the audio version.
Court of Wanderers by Rin Chupeco, narrated by Matthew Spencer
Thank you to Hodder & Stoughton for providing an audio ARC via NetGalley. This is my honest review, featuring quotes from the ARC.
“Never love anyone so much that it makes them the death of you.”
Buzzwords: vampires, vampire hunter, familiar, court politics, romance, MMF, why choose?, touch them and die, complicated families.
Notes On Audio: I enjoyed the narrator of this book. He had a storyteller's voice; using steady rhythm and slight changes for different speakers to create an immersive audiobook. The way he said Malekh’s “Pendergast” was delivered perfectly, rightfully so. The book's narrator, Remy, is known for talking too much and foul language. Their personality brought light-hearted charm into the story and I enjoyed how the audio narrator brought them to life. Reflecting the gruffness, tongue-in-cheek, exasperation, and constant commentary. It would be an audiobook I recommend.
The sequel to Silver Under Nightfall, one of my favourite reads of 2023. I enjoyed it for being a fun romantasy adventure centred around vampires and court politics. As much as it was delightfully entertaining, the emotional sustenance ensured it was a story I wanted to invest myself in. The main character, Remy, is a skilled vampire hunter, but somehow they end up accompanying two vampires to solve the mystery of the rot spreading across Aluria. Two vampires who they ended up being very close to by the end of their journey, wink wink. Now, the three of them need to traverse court politics to defeat the night empress and anyone else who gets in their way.
For fans of vampires, why choose? romances and court politics. This is an exciting, fun romantasy adventure not to be missed.
After reading the sequel, I still stand by this fact even if I sadly didn't enjoy it as much as the first one. If you were a fan of the first book and, like me, adored the characters. Don’t worry because the characters were still as wonderful as in the first and I flew through this book. Savouring every time Remy talked too much, Xiaodan smiled or Zidan responded to Remy’s incessant talking. I was an invested reader, not just for them, but the plot too. I wanted to know how it ended and I appreciate the influence of science, politics and power in the series. It is fun but with sustenance. Do you know how much I enjoy "fun with sustenance" books? So. Much. I struggle to find ones I like, so I really am grateful for this duology.
Ultimately I had two issues for Court of Wanderers. I consider this series a romantasy, but seeing as the main polyamorous couple achieved something akin to a happy ending at the end of the last book, there wasn’t much growth in this book. In fact, the barriers from the last book were knocked down with a single statement more or less. For the relationship, it is lovely to see this happiness and healthiness. They existed in a bubble of comfort and all they had to do was tick the t's and dot the i's, so to say. As a fan of the previous book, I cannot deny it was lovely to see them come together to celebrate this happiness and hotness-- a real “good for you” moment. Plus, if you are a fan of the “touch them and die” aspect of romance, you will soak up these details. But even I had to question what purpose or journey they were actually experiencing in this book.
I missed them facing new challenges and growth, beyond the "life and death" nature of fantasy plots. It was not all a loss because I was genuinely thankful for no unnecessary miscommunication or break-ups, and the natural chemistry of the relationship meant it was still a successful romance. However, from a technical standpoint, more could have been done. A deeper look into their personal problems and how the relationship could have specifically helped them through these challenges. Instead, they seemed to gloss over emotional dilemmas, with each character reaching for space or distraction, with no further discussion.
The second point is in relation to the plot. There were foes to be defeated, secrets to uncover and a world to change. The plot isn’t groundbreaking but there is certainly intrigue. The ending is what you would expect and I was perfectly content with that. So far, so good.
The part that disappointed me was the whole promise of vampire courts and Remy acting as their familiar. I was so curious to see this unfold. Vampire courts, I don't think I need to explain why this intrigues me. Remy acting as their familiar? Well, I think familiars are an interesting part of the lore connected to vampires. Whilst technically a trade of sorts, it is a massive imbalance of power and I would enjoy a book that seeks to explore the corruption and wrongness of this relationship. I didn't expect that from this story necessarily but I was intrigued by the idea of the main character acting as one to hide in plain sight. I did enjoy the moments that focused on this aspect, yet once again, I felt like more could have been achieved. It didn't feel dangerous, and I didn't learn anything from his position. Why did it really need to happen? It felt like massively underused potential.
Overall, I honestly did enjoy this book. I think fans of the first book will have a great time with the characters. But there is a small edge of disappointment as more could have been achieved, to add more danger and growth. To look deeper into the emotions of the characters and spend more time exploring the vampire courts. To have had more fun with the vampire courts, please! Perhaps my expectations led me astray. Nonetheless, a satisfying conclusion, even if sadly not as memorable as the first one.
Thank you Netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Solid 4⭐️
I did tandem read the book and audio book. Both was great.
I would of preferred a younger narrow for the audio book but still didn’t take away the amazing plot and action.
I did think the 1st book was better something was missing but I can’t figure out what. Which is the reason I gave the 4 rather then a 5.
There was definitely character growth which I loved they wasn’t just dead characters.
Well done 👏
I tandem read this with the audiobook and the ebook. I really enjoyed Matthew Spencer’s narration and felt it was a good continuation to Silver Under Nightfall, it felt cozy, Interview of the vampire style. He does a great job of creating suspense and this wasn’t lost when speeding up to 2X speed.
Silver Under Nightfall was one of my favourite reads of 2023 and I was excited to be back with our favourite thruple Remy, Malekh and Xiordan. The first book had a lot more enemies to lovers vibes and tension whereas this was a lot sexier! With mostly fade to black scenes but so much more innuendos and sex happening, almost at ridiculous times while telling us a lot of plot and World building. Some of it felt a bit eyeroll and Remy was a big bit dense at times.
Remy is having nightmares about The Night Empress and has discovered he may carry a bloodline, fearing turning into a monster. Remy’s Dad plays a much bigger role in this book which I enjoyed finding out more about his early life.
I preferred Silver under Nightfall but this was a good continuation to the story.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you for this ARC, in exchange for an honest review.
I will admit, I was not fully prepared for this one…as in I didn’t know it was a sequel and hadn’t read the first book and all I DID know was that it was about vampires and sounded interesting enough for me to request to read!
I was not expecting a love story, especially about a queer throuple, where an ex-vampire hunter is now a companion to two vampires! That first bedroom scene had me like ‘oh, okay’.
Despite the unexpected, I did enjoy this enough to finish it and I will add the first book to my TBR list.
I really liked Remy’s character and his relationships with everyone, the story was interesting and I very much enjoyed learning of this vampire world and the rules within.
3.5 stars rounded up!
I received an e-arc and audioarc through Netgalley all opinions are my own.
I thoroughly enjoyed book 1 and was really excited to read book 2.
I would have prefered a younger voice for the narrator. But otherwise I really liked the audiobook.
I enjoyed the plot and all the action in this book. I was a little confused since there was a lot of characters.
I really liked how we got more insight into Remys dad. Because in book was I really disliked him, but he wasn't that bad in this one.
Malekh is such a hater hahah I love it.
He really is a tsundere through and through😂
The romance was fine. I think it lacked some depth.
This was a very enjoyable read that really pulled me in, but I did prefer the first book.
*Spoiler thought*
Something confused me. Remy and Malekh often have sex, but then he gets confused and goes all blushing thinking about Xiaodan using a strap on. Does that mean that he doesn't actually bottom or top Malekh lmfao🤣
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC.
What a satisfying ending to the series! I liked how the relationships between old and new characters grew stronger and more complicated. The worldbuilding (with which I stuggled in the first book) was solid and the author managed to tie all the loose ends. Also the narrator was so good - the audiobook is more then 15 hours long, but it was easy to follow the story.
4.5 stars
I don't even know what to say. This book lacked the atmosphere, depth and emotion of the first one. The vampire court politics were not intriguing at all. I still enjoyed the main trio, but it felt like their relationship barely went past the sex in this book.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
My favourite trio returns!!
I will admit, overall I did not enjoy this as much as the first book and found myself not quite as interested in the politics this time around. I think there were maybe just too many parties involved that made it a little more difficult to keep track, even though most were quite distinct. There were also some pacing issues that made it trickier to get through this, but when the pacing picked up, I was there for it.
Regardless of these issues, I absolutely adore Remy, Xioadan and Zidan. These three and their relationship make me *swoon* and say "I wish I had what they had". I had to stop multiple times just to sit and bask in their love. I would honestly love a short story compliation of moments throughout their relationship!
I think I kept with this story more for the characters (loved the return of my fave bestie Elke) and the ever-evolving dynamics rather than the overall plot. One thing I can't fault Rin on is creating multi-dimensional complex characters. The characters and their motivations, for the most part, are compelling and believable.
As I was approved for both the audio and ebook, the narration was fantastic. I was apprehensive as I physically read the first book (and fell in love) but the narration definitely held up. The voices/accents/intonations were done cleverly and added to the overall enjoyment.
My rating would be a 3.5-3.75 but rounding up to 4 :)
Cannot wait to buy the newly announced special editions of this too!
I really hope Rin Chupeco writes a third book in this series. I actually preferred the second book more than the first. There was more emotion from the characters and their relationship was more than lust, even though I did enjoy the spice. The poly aspect of it was written well and thought the characters were well balanced as a trio.
Despite wanting a third book, I believe the story is nicely wrapped where the author left it.
I gave Court of Wanderers a solid 4.25 stars.
Remy accompanies Xiaodan and Malekh, playing their part of a familiar as they venture into vampire court territory, determined to find a way to bring down the cruel Nightcourt and the chimera monstrosities running rampant and growing stronger.
I think I actually preferred the plot and pacing of this book than book one, which seems at odds with the rest of the reviews.
This was a bit more sexual than book one, but again, the scenes were fairly fade to black. But it was a lot more prominent as Remy plays the part of a pet or, what Xiodan endears, puppy.
Yeh, um, not for me. Keep it in the fanfiction.
Again, I have to express my disappointment for this series as I went in with such high expectations coming from her others books and hearing the hype it got on social media.
I just want to leave this last quote but basically sums up the series. Remy, I love you, but…
“Remy, I swear to every thing you consider holy that sometimes you are the densest person I have ever met.”
Thank you to Hodder & Stoughton for providing an arc in exchange for a review.
