I love this series and it keeps getting better

Love the romance and the spice and there’s action and adventure too.

A fiercely romantic and dark enemies-to-lover follows Gwen and her captor, Prince Mordred. In this thrilling third installment to the Iron Crystal series, Gwen is forced to return to her homeland despite intense, romantic feelings between her and the seductive prince Modred. As her internal struggle rages, Gwen has one chance to save everyone she loves.

This is a treat for fans of the burgeoning romantasy genre, especially those who adore the Feyre/Rhys dynamic from the ACOTAR series. Kathryn Ann Kingsley’s excellent writing transports readers to a magical, perilous world filled with danger and passion.

I can’t pinpoint why I love this series, I just do.

This was a good continuation to the series. I really wish it was the last one because the ending 😭

I still love how I’m reading an adult fairy tale. I don’t want to give too much away, but I can’t wait to finish the last book of this. Mordred and Gwen, I’m rooting for you!

What a stinger of a book...Gwen really has come into her own lately! She’s strong and passionate and Avalon just won’t let her go! She fights for what she believes in, swears like a trooper and is one of my favourite FMCs ever.

What I have to keep remembering is Gwen is still young, naive and just juiced up on magic. Her actions, albeit good in nature, are distorting things and they keep hurting the one she loves the most….Mordred.

Gah, his story! His pain, pressure and his beliefs are his downfall. He is madly in love and has no idea how to behave because of it. Things are falling apart.

Grinn the demon aka the bastard cat. I just want a happy ending for him. Despite everything he is doing, has done and will do, he is written in a way where you just can’t help but want it all to be ok for him! Kudos to Kingsley for this.

Because of how well Gwen is written, we feel exactly what she feels, because she wields it so. Avalon yields it so. I loved this instalment, but the best character…DOC! My god I love that little drunken baffoon. He is equal parts endearing and infuriating! He also makes me laugh. With him by Gwen's side, well it will make the final book in this quartet the most interesting.

War is coming and I fear no one is safe. (Although I hope Zoe is!)

What an instalment to the series! So much to digest, unpack and think about whilst taking in all the sights sounds and dreams. *Sigh* plus add a bit of added spice and wow.

Madeline Pell’s narration is just spot on again and I love her voice for the characters. So much so that I have bought the 4th one ready to go and blitz in a day as I have to see this final outcome!

I’m not ready for it to be over yet.

This series didn't meet my expectations, and I'm undecided about continuing with the next book. Unfortunately, this one was a Did Not Finish (DNF) for me. I struggled to get into it, and unlike the previous two books, it failed to capture my interest. The repetitive plot structure across each book made it difficult for me to stay engaged, and even the intriguing character of Mordred couldn't salvage this one for me.

'TO BREAK A DARK CAGE,' is the third book in Kathryn Ann Kingsley's Iron Crystal series. The series showcases a powerful and brooding male lead. The fantasy setting and magical elements present in 'Charm a Dark Prince' (book 1) resonates throughout the series. If you're seeking a fantastic adventure featuring a strong female protagonist and a dark prince who may not be as he appears, then the Iron Crystal world is the ideal destination.

In the aftermath of the tragedy that struck in "To Bind a Dark Heart," the residents of Avalon reels from the devastating events and the shocking revelation that Gwendolyn's cat is, in fact, the Ash Demon. Mordred now faces the task of purging Avalon of the Ash Demon's malevolent presence. His immediate concern, though, is safeguarding Gwendolyn — and his own heart by extension. The logical solution appears to be sending her back to Earth. Yet, unbeknownst to both, Avalon has its own designs, and Gwendolyn's return to Earth is not part of them.

In this latest installment, I had hoped Mordred and Gwen would finally communicate and cease keeping secrets from each other. But true to form, they kept silent, secrets piled up, and trust issues lingered. Despite my growing frustration with them, I couldn't help but love them both. Gwen has transformed from the frightened Kansas girl in "To Charmed a Dark Prince", into a self-assured heroine. Mordred has come to realize that good intentions did not justify the methods employed to keep the elementals in check.

"To Break a Dark Cage" may not have matched the first two books in suspense and action, but it was still an enjoyable read. Sure, there were a few letdowns. These, however, didn't stop it from being a magical trip into the mystical world of Avalon.

The book ended with a cliffhanger, but the note on which it ended came as no surprise—I anticipated it. Now, the big question is whether Gwen will use her new gift to curb the elementals' thirst for violence and power. All in all, it's a worthy addition to the series and a must-read for fantasy romance enthusiasts.

I am loving this series so so much!!! It’s a dark and twisted take on the King Arthur story with Mordred being the focus. He’s the morally grey MMC who’s actually truly morally grey and I’m all here for it 🙌

This is the third book in the series and it starts straight in with the angst which I LOVED 😍 We get more character development in this book which I liked and the banter keeps getting better and better as the series progresses. I do hope we get more of Mordred and Gwen together in book four but I’m excited to see how it all goes 😊

I love the magic in this series and all of the Arthurian legend. I could not wait to see Gwen and Mordred reunited on this book because they are such a great couple. I love how Gwen tries to make Mordred more compassionate and I love her new found abilities. I wish they would have spent more of the book together, but cannot wait to find out what happens next.

Say it with me kids: gaslighting your partner into sex is not the way to fix your problems. Neither is refusing to communicate. We got it? Good.

This series just keeps getting better and better! I love the back and forth between Gwen and Mordred. The storytelling is absolutely phenomenal and the spice is just right. Cannot wait for book 4!

I flew through this series and this book was no exception and cannot wait to read more. What an easy and fun read!

Gwen is the prisoner to a man she loves. She sided with Mordred's enemies and allowed a demon to grow. Gwen is sent away from Avalon but the magic has other ideas of its own. Now Gwen only has one more chance to save the island from war.

This is book 3 in the series. I read the first two on Kindle Unlimited and loved the story. It is a fantasy romance with some King Arthur inspiration elements, along with some spice.

It was such an easy read to finish off on. It followed on from the previous books nicely and referred to previous aspects just when I forgot about them so it was just nice to be reminded of all the little details. The only real twinge I had was how the miscommunication trope was executed as it just seemed like things couldn't resolve.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for my advanced readers copy of To Break a Dark Cage by Kathryn Ann Kingsley.

The WORST thing about this book is I did not know there was gonna be a fourth one. I thought this was going to be the conclusion. Now I have to wait to see what happens?! The suspense is killing me!
This book series is wonderful and wholesome. I love the heart you can tell the author put into this story. I will say the dialogue can be cheesy at times, but I would probably say the same things as our main character, Gwen, if I was in her shoes.
This book is filled with opposing viewpoints and morally gray characters. It's very refreshing to see so many different view points in one storyline. But they don’t feel overcrowded or fighting for the spotlight.
Overall if you like betrayals, magic, the king Arthur legend, and romance you will undoubtedly love this series!

In this third installment of the series, Gwen is sent away to return to Earth so that Mordred can finish what has been started. He wants Gwen to be safe at all costs. But Avalon has other plans. Gwen must find a way to protect innocents, her friends, and the man she loves from disaster.

I am such a fan of this series. I had not read any of these books before NetGalley approved me for a review. I knew right away that this wasn't one of those series that you could just pick up and book 3 and be ready to go. So I purchased books one and two for my Kindle to prep. What a great choice! I'm in love! Take me to June immediately so that I can get my hands on book four.

This series was not what I expected and right now I'm not sure I'll read the next book. This review contains spoilers.

I hoped Morded will get a good redemption arc, but instead he was still stuck in his way, Sure, he did not punish the elementals again (at least for now).

I am also not sure how I feel about Gwen. She was this girl that didn't want anyone to be hurt, even the demon set on destroying Avalon, but eventually she transforms into a person that's ready to kill everybody because her love was imprisoned (and rightfully so) and I wouldn't be annoyed with the ending if her personality hinted that this might happen.

And what's going on with Doc/Merlin. He's clearly influencing her final decision, just waiting for her to voice it.

All in all, I don't think the book is bad, but the whole series was not what I expected and that left me a bit disappointed.

The romance was hot and full fo sexual tension. Loved how it was fast paced! The cliffhanger was brutal, though.

Unfortunately this was a DNF for me. I found it hard to get into and it just didn’t draw me in like the previous two books. I think the fact that the plot for each book is essentially the same made it hard for to feel invested and even the broody Mordred couldn’t save this one for me.

I enjoyed this one just as much as the first two books. I’m looking forward to seeing where the book goes in the fourth book.
It was well written with a good flow.
