What a cracking thriller this is. It took some deciphering out that’s for sure. I loved it, couldn’t stop reading till I’d finished it. Didn’t realise till now that this is book three in the series, completely missed the other two, have to put that right. Highly recommended

The Kill List is a riveting read - excellently plotted with some shocks in store. Anjelica Henley remains one of my favourite police detective protagonists at the moment.

I am a fan of Nadine Matheson’s work, particularly having enjoyed the previous instalments in Anjelica Henley’s story: The Jigsaw Man and The Binding Room. They are just so well executed in terms of characterisation, plot and atmosphere. The Kill List continues this trend, while also delving further back into the history of the Serial Crime Unit and threatening to expose corruption in a previous case. It is once more balancing the personal aspects of the case with the investigation, bringing in some politicial elements as well with the spotlight firmly on the Serial Crime Unit. As to be expected from Matheson’s writing, it is excellently plotted with plenty of gnarly surprises in store. Some of those twists caught me completely off guard.

Anjelica herself continues to develop throughout the series, with her connections to other characters evolving and changing. In particular, we see her struggle with the case due to her personal ties. It adds another level of distress, with psychological effects that torment her. Also wrapped up in this is her relationship with her mentor - DCI Harry Rhimes. She has to contend with potentially moving him from an idolised status to one of distrust and manipulation. I really enjoyed following this plot line and Matheson dangles just enough to keep you clued in, but always wanting more. It all builds to a fantastic finale, though there is a great set-up for the next book. Rest assured, I will be getting my hands on that!

The Kill List continued the superb streak of Anjelica Henley thrillers. As long as Matheson keeps writing them, I will continue reading them. This is another read that sent shivers down my spine and kept me glued to the pages until the early hours.

The Kill List is the third book in the D.I. Anjelica Henley of the Serial Crimes Unit, Met Police and I have enjoyed each one more than the last. Nadine Matheson writes dark police procedurals with a serial killer focus and her books are both thrilling and affecting.

But what makes them special is the very authentic way she combines the lives of this unit with their jobs. Avoiding most of the cop tropes, she manages to show us how the daily lives of those who make up the Serial Crimes Unit impact on their energy, focus and team spirit.

That team spirit is severely tested when a convicted serial killer has his conviction overturned on appeal and is released. Andrew Streeter was found guilty of murdering five people, one of whom was a childhood friend of Henley’s – so Streeter’s release has a very personal impact on her. More than that, though, the release has brought into question the status of the SCU’s former boss, the now deceased DCI Rhimes, whose actions are under investigation for corruption – something no-one in the team can believe.

In a straightforward Machiavellian act of political destruction, the team are forced into investigating their old boss’s actions, and the previous serial killer crimes, whilst at the same time investigating a new spate of similar and pretty gruesome murders. Their abilities are stretched, their resources are low; they are worried and their home lives are suffering.

How they survive is by being a close knit team and by supporting each other. Anjelica isn’t getting that support at home where her husband Rob is fed up being the parent who does all the household chores and hardly sees his wife unless it’s last thing at night.

Ramouter too, is struggling with his wife’s early onset dementia and the pressure of work on him means he doesn’t always handle things in the best way.

By giving her characters real lives, Matheson makes her characters authentic and all too human and while sometimes their actions may be flawed, you can see how the strain takes its toll and why they behave as they do.

Investigating a series of dark and really quite disturbing murders with such a strong personal connection to Henley makes her strained and tense. The added disbelief in Rhimes’ corruption means that this case is doubly personal for Anjelica. It’s not surprising that her defences are lowered when her boss and former lover, Steve Pellacio, goes out of his way to support her.

Then we have an unknown contributor to the information about these crimes. Someone is writing to a local journalist – the same journalist who made her name writing about the killer whom she dubbed ‘The Burier’ in the first series of serial killer crimes for which Streeter was convicted. And she is going to use that information to regain her place on the paper, which is now easing her out to make way for a younger, cheaper and well connected reporter.

You can feel the tension thrumming between these pages. Henley is stretched tight like a highly tuned fiddle string that you fear may spring loose at any moment. The pace is fast and the perpetrator deadly. As the team races to catch the killer and exonerate DCI Rhimes, the reader is racing to work out exactly who is responsible, which is just the way I like it!

Verdict: Dark, tension fuelled and pacy, this is a terrific read. More from D.I. Henley please!

Andrew Streeter is finally given a chance at clearing his name but is he innocent like he claims. Police corruption and false DNA are causing trouble for the SCU. DI Henley was already involved in the original case and believed he had done it but now even she is wondering. What really happened to her friend that day ?

This was a really interesting read. Its dramatic from the start and takes you on many twists and turns along the way. You just never know who is guilty of what. This is the first of this series I have read but there are two before which I now plan to read. The plot is clever and full of twists. I liked that it was difficult to figure everything out until the very end. The ending was so good and i like that it left a little hint for a future book which i would definitely want to read. Every character has their own issues but you do warm to them. A brilliant crime/thriller.

Book 3 in the gritty DI Henley series. As I've come to expect from this wonderful series this book is dark, hugely addictive with a plot line that keeps you guessing right to the end. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. This is a serious contender for my book of the year. Absolutely loved it.

He will come for them, one by one…
Five shocking murders

Twenty-five years ago, DCI Harry Rhimes arrested Andrew Streeter for the brutal murders of five young people. Streeter’s ‘kill list’ of victims was found in his home, and he was convicted of all five crimes.

A legacy under threat

Now, Streeter’s convictions are being overturned, as new evidence implies the original investigation was corrupt. No one is more shocked that DI Henley. Because this case is personal; Rhimes was her old boss, and he’s no longer alive to defend himself. But when the killings start up again, Henley must face the truth: Rhimes got it wrong twenty-five years ago.

A hunt for a killer

Henley and her team reopen the original murder cases, but they must put their personal feelings to one side. Because the real killer is still out there, and he’s working his way through a new kill list.

Absolutely superb book, I have to give it five stars.

This is the third Inspector Anjelica Henry book but it’s the first one I’ve read and I did most of it in one sitting. For me, it gets 5 stars because of its complexity as a crime book. I often find that detective fiction has just a few characters or more characters but few are fleshed out. There’s often only one well done plot or the main plot and a few sub plots that are ok but could have been worked out better. Neither of these things happen here. Each character is believable and the sub plots are interesting and add back story to the characters. I really enjoyed the plot too and the speech is particularly believable. This is the sort of book that could easily be turned into a two hour ITV drama. I will definitely keep an eye out for others in the series.

Thanks to the author, publishers & NetGalley for access to this arc in return for an honest review.

After having read and absolutely loved the first two books in this series, I was desperate to read the next instalment and I certainly wasn't disappointed.

Please be reassured that, in my opinion, this can be read as a standalone but I would definitely suggest you go back and read the first two as although not essential, it does help with the character understanding and development and they are brilliant books!

Once again, we are treated to a great story, fantastic characters, twists and turns; it's dark, it's gritty and it doesn't let up from start to finish. It's full of tension and kept me guessing until the end and I have no hesitation in recommending it.

Many thanks to the author, HQ and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of this, the latest excellent addition to a brilliant series and I can't wait for the next.

This is the first book in this series that I’ve read, so I found the first chapter confusing when I didn’t have a clue as to who any of the characters were. After that, the book fell into place and was an absorbing and entertaining read.

I love Anjelica! I connected with the character straight away.

It is authentic and quite dark and keeps you reading to the last page.

A definite recommendation.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

I requested this book because it looked like a really good crime novel and i truly wasn’t dissapointed. From the first page until the last I was hooked, I genuinely haven’t read a book that’s had me think about at work the way this did for a while 😅 Without spoiling anything, I have to say the way I was constantly questioning every single suspect and character in this book was something else. I really enjoyed how we got to see the lives of different characters and not just the main character, it really made me want to know more about everyone.

After realising this was book 3 in the series, I have added the other 2 to my wish list now and will be reading them as soon as I can!! Hoping there’s another book due to the way this one ended 😊

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for sending this ARC. All options are my own.

Another brilliant thrilling read by Nadine Matheson. This being the third book in the Inspector Henley series and, in my mind is the best yet. The characters are so believable, the storyline gripping. It is gruesome, captivating and a roller coaster of a ride.
From the first to last page left me feeling breathless. It is so chilling, I would highly recommend readers to start with the first book in the series, get to know the characters. Nadine has a great reading style and I look forward to more by this great author.

Love this series so was really looking forward to the third book and it was just as good as the previous two.

The SCU are back to investigate The Burier. A serial killer put away by Henley’s boss Rhimes 25 years earlier, who now decides to appeal his conviction and clear his name. At first the team don’t believe his innocence but as more victims are killed using the same M.O as The Burier, they start to take his claims of Police corruption seriously.

I really enjoyed the mix of cold case and fresh investigation and how they mixed together. It was all really well plotted and paced well.
The authors background in law shines through with lots of detail added to increase the authenticity.

As the series continues, we learn more about the SCU team and their relationships with each other, both personal and professional.
The main character of Anjelica Henley, is a strong female role model and I look forward to reading the next in the series!

I'd not read the first two of this series, but it works ok as a standalone.
There are a lot of characters involved so it required a little more concentration at times to remember who was who. I enjoyed the tangled web of the dark plot.
I think if I'd have read the previous books I'd have enjoyed it all the more as I'd be more familiar with characters and their past.

It was a long time ago that I read the other books in this series, but that didn't seem to matter so I think it could be read as a standalone book. The characters were well written and the plot moved along pretty fast. Re investigating old cases along with the new kept the team busy, and kept me reading. A brilliant book in my opinion

I've loved all three books in this series, I like the way we are getting to know the characters in the SCU and their back stories are building. Although this one was still a bit grizzly in parts, it wasn't as graphic as the other two, and the story still kept me gripped.

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

This story is slightly different from the previous two in that not only does Henley have to investigate a current murder, but also becomes involved in a couple of cold cases, one of which was her best friend when she was younger. Added to this, due to a miscarriage of justice, her former boss and mentor comes under the spotlight of possibly being corrupt. A bit of a slow starter for me however the pace picks up as the story goes along building to a great crescendo at the end. Another good story in this series.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC to review.

Henley -V- The Burier. The third gripping case for Angelica Henley and Ramouter to investigate. What a thrill ride this is, it's absolutely brilliant with an unputdownable plot, page turning action, amazing relatable characters., and shocking twists.. Keeps you guessing right to the cliff hanger ending. The series of books seriously need to be adapted to TV. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, PHENOMENAL READ.

The Kill List is my first introduction to author Nadine Matheson and Inspector Anjelica Henley and what a cracking introduction it is!!

As this is a top notch crime thriller. That had me hooked from beginning to end.

As Andrew Streeter: A convicted serial killer desperately tries to contact Anjelica. Whom he has a connection too, given that she at fifteen gave evidence against him at his trial. And he's not the only one wanting to talk. As a barrister has taken Andrews case and he's about to get Andrew out on appeal.

However, what they don't count on is someone wanting to silence them both for good and Anjelica being thrust into the middle of the investigation. As well as having to reinvestigate the original murders including that of her best friend Melissa.

But with accusations of police corruption and evidence that takes them in circles. The pressure of finding Melissa's killer mounts and Anjelica is soon at breaking point.

And she's not the only one.

And with such a twisty storyline. That is full of death and destruction. Not to mention shocks and unflinching scenes. This was genuinely a story I couldn't put down and when all the different threads came together. I was completely shocked and never have I been this hooked on a group of characters since I read Michael Woods For Reasons Unknown.

I would thoroughly recommend The Kill List to all.

A very well written book by an accomplished author. This is the third in the DI Anjelica Henley series but the first one I've read. It reads well as a standalone although I will go back and read the first two now, impressed as I was with this one.
Andrew Streeter was convicted in 1996 of 5 murders, all of which he continued to plead not guilty. New evidence has been unearthed and an appeal to have the life sentence quashed has been raised. Meanwhile a new spate of murders commences, showing the same traits as the original ones. The investigation lands with the Serious Crime Squad of which Henley is part of. It is now personal for her as she found the first body who at the time was a close teenage friend and also the name of her former boss and friend has been banded around as being a bent cop.
This is very fast paced, very dark but very thrilling. It is a rollercoaster of a read but a thoroughly enjoyable one.
Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was an edge of your seat Murder/Mystery. A murderer on the rampage, false imprisonment, police corruption. It had it all. A great cast of characters and a very satisfying conclusion.
