This is a thrilling read. Easy to read. Enjoyed reading about the characters again. If you have not read this series, I’d highly recommend it. Great pace.

The Kill List is the latest police procedural from Nadine Matheson and it is another excellent page turner featuring the Met’s SCU who are forced to challenge what they think they know about one of their own whilst simultaneously investigating a cold case and a more modern serial killer.

This has become a great series already and this, the third book in the series, is a worthy addition.

Highly recommended.

Wow! I LOVED the Jigsaw Man- it was the book that kicked started my re-love of reading a few years ago. I then was so lucky to see Nadine Matheson talk at Capital Crime in 2023 and was introduced the the sequel- the Binding Room. DI Henly is now one my favourite fictional detectives and the thrills keep coming in this third novel! Perfect for lovers of thrillers and police procedurals all wrapped up with a dash of mystery!

I really enjoyed reading this book. The plot was realistic! It may seem strange that a serial killer could avoid justice for quite a number of years as a result of luck, bystanders non-involvement or just sheer ineptitude/corruption at a high level in the police. Sadly, that could be something we are currently reading about in the news!

I thought the main characters were intriguing and very “human” - much like characters in Nordic-noire thrillers.

I look forward to reading more!

Really enjoyable!

Didn’t realise this was the third in a series and Nadine Matheson is a new author to me but won’t be the last and I think I will start the series and continue it. I really enjoyed the characters and their interactions and thought it was an interesting storyline.
Sometimes the time changing and the narrators changing was a bit confusing at times but still enjoyable.
I think I will go back and read the others and any future ones.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to have an ARC in return for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for letting me read The Kill List by Nadine Matheson. Although this is Book 3 in the series and I haven't read 1 and 2 it didn't matter. Once I started I couldn't put it down. I gelled with the characters and thought it was an original story line. Will definitely be reading more Inspector Henley books

This was a new author for me, although I see this is the 3rd book in the series.

Quite a few characters to invest in, but it works well as quite often you only get to know about one of the detectives. I loved the pretext of this book and it was well executed with the story going back and forth over 25 years and the different narrators. It got a little bit confusing at times, but not too unreadable.

As I said at the start. this is the 3rd book in the series, I don't think i was too disadvantaged to start with book 3. I think I will go back and read the previous 2 and possibly others after it. ,This wasn't a great book, but definitely not a bad one either. I rate as an 4 Stars.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher, and author for an ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

Many thanks to HQ and Netgalley for a copy of this ebook in return for an honest review.

25 years after a serial killer (Andrew Keenan) was convicted his case comes to the forefront of the media again, as he tries to get his case overturned due to new evidence. Just when he though he would be free, he is found dead in prison. As the new killer starts to murder again will the Serial Crimes Unit be able to find his real killer, and what will Henley's return to the case she was a childhood witness in mean for her?

I was so invested in this story - rather than most detective novels that only focus on one of the detectives, you got to know all of them both as a team and as individuals. I LOVED that because they are all rich individuals who feel real and it makes for a very well rounded detective team.

The mystery was MYSTERYing throughout and I was really invested in who the burrier was and why Keenan had been clearly set up to take the flack and why. I was intrigued to know who the next target of the serial killer would be and why. It is a really full and embodied mystery. I'm not sure it's really a thriller but it's a great detective story. The page count of this doesn't feel that long as it is fast paced and keeps moving constantly.

This book is told through many perspectives, which sometimes change during a chapter which did confuse me at times, as did the formatting of the arc of the ebook as there are quite a few formatting errors which it did make it slightly difficult for me to follow at times. However, I read it without having read any of the previous Henley mysteries, so there were a lot of new character to meet and several of the detectives backstories had previously been explored during the prior two in the series. I think both of these are me problems however as the formatting will be correct once it is released, and if you have read the previous Henley mysteries not knowing the detectives wouldn't be a problem. I have already added the two prior novels to my TBR, so I really wouldn't let these factors stop you reading this!

Overall I would certainly recommend this, but perhaps start with the first novel in the Henley mysteries first if you want the full impact of all the side characters.

My first reading of this author and I’ll be discovering her others asap!

I really enjoyed this book a lot with the team and getting to know them as a first time reader. Highly recommend this series and cannot wait for the next instalment.

OMG Nadine Matheson does it again. I stumbled across The Jigsaw Man after a friend at work recommended it, I then read The Binding and I was so excited to see The Kill List on Netgalley - so you can imagine my excitement when I was chosen to read it before its release.

This book is so so good! The main Detective Henley is a brilliant character. Shes ballsy and confident but also has her demons. Nadine creates a story that leaves you wanting more and keeps you guessing but cleverly ties everything up with a bow at the end...and even leaves you wondering if there will be another book.

The story starts about a murderer who is in jail for murders he committed in 1995, without giving too much away things then start on a trail as the case is reopened. I honestly cant believe how good this book was. I know when Im in a good book because I cant wait to get back in to it and use my dinner breaks at work to keep the story going. Its a long read coming up at 6.5 hours on my kindly but my god its worth it. Buy this book!!!

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy for an unbiased review!!

A chilling masterpiece that delves into the minds of both the hunter and the hunted, featuring unforgettable characters and a relentlessly suspenseful plot

I loved this book! I devoured it in about two days. Protagonist Inspector Henley was a really likeable main character and I enjoyed the camaraderie between the SCU team. The team weren't the usual, obvious stereotypes and the chemistry between Henley and Pallacia added to that. Having to investigate their former boss added an extra layer to the plot. As did the fact that Henley was a witness to the original murder (which was of her best friend). Lots of plot kept it moving.

The murderer kept me guessing throughout, it wasn't an obvious purp which was good. I see Matheson has already written two other books in the Henley series and I'm absolutely going to go back and read them. I don't think this book spoils the other two stories from what I can tell.

In 1996, Andrew Streeter insisted he hadn’t committed the five brutal murders he was charged with. In the present day, new evidence shows that the previous officers did a sloppy job investing and that the real killer is still on the loose with a new kill list. DI Henley must put any personal feelings aside while she re-opens the murder cases.

Overall, this was a murder mystery that I did not want to put down. It was engaging and a quick read, but I do think some of the information about the DI’s life/marriage didn’t add anything to the story.

Many thanks to Net Galley and HQ for this ARC.

I was so excited to read this book after reading the previous 2 in this series and I wasn't disappointed - actually loved it

It's a real page turner, full of action and I couldn't put it down. Had a lot of originality in this book. The story follows DI Henly, as she catches a serial killer from the past. Lots of characters who have their own stories but all come together to bring justice.

Well deserved 5 star - great author

Thank you to Netgalley

Absolutely brilliant!

A total page turner filled with so much tension. This is yet another heart pounding thriller from the Queen herself, Nadine Matheson.
Twenty-five years ago, DCI Harry Rhimes arrested Andrew Streeter for the brutal murders of five young people. Streeter’s ‘kill list’ of victims was found in his home, and he was convicted of all five crimes.
New evidence implies that the original investigation was corrupt and the old case is reopened
DI Henley and her team are working to find the real murderer and also clear Harry's name
.
I have read The Kill List as soon as I got approved here. I couldn't wait as I absolutely devoured Jigsaw Man and The Binding Room. This third book in the series is just as good, with such gruesome passages and tense moments that make your heart stop
This is one binge read of a book that will bring shivers down your spine and I totally recommend it to all lovers of genre

Very gripping, I usually don't enjoy this type of format with back and forth conversations and interviews but this was so easy to read and become immersed in.

DI Anjelica Henley of the Serial Crime Unit, Metropolitan Police.

‘Let sleeping dogs lie’

Did Andrew Streeter kidnap, rape and murder five people between 1994 and 1995? The case goes to trial in 1996, and he’s found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment, but continues to maintain innocence, claiming a set up. In the present day, Streeter has commissioned, Elias Piper of the Redemption Foundation to look into his case of wrongful conviction. Elias requests an interview with Anjelica as she gives evidence for the prosecution in the original case because she finds one of the victims bodies, indeed, she is a good friend. Not only that, but Anjelica works with DCI Rhimes, one of the original investigating officers, now deceased. The case is taken forward to appeal, is successful, but before he can taste freedom, Streeter is found dead. This is one amongst many shocks that Henley and the team will receive in one of their grittiest and most shocking cases to date. Who is the true killer, the one with a kill list? This becomes incredibly challenging and difficult and will haunt the teams dreams. They face some big questions, not least from 1994/95 versus the present day. Where are the common denominators?

Oh my word, this really is a shocker of a case for the team, it’s very dark, in fact jet black dark, but if you’ve read the previous two books you do know what you’re in for. It’s a fast paced novel which it has to be as there’s an horrific “game” afoot and the police team are several steps behind. It’s an action packed, never a dull moment rollercoaster of a read that really is adrenaline fuelled. Although this is a tough case, as there is a brutal, callous murderer, I like that this very likeable police team have such good camaraderie, there’s excellent banter and they all feel authentic as well as relatable. This helps to alleviate some of the more gory sections of the book. However, I do feel there is way too much on Anjelica’s personal situation, also the difficulties that Detective Ramouter faces at home. This makes the book unnecessarily long.

On the plus side, the case in itself is enough to keep you reading on because you really WANT to know. There’s plenty to keep you intrigued such as internal metropolitan politics and corruption. The writing is clever, for example, I really enjoy the Shakespeare references used in the plot.

Overall, it’s nicely set up for number four, which I for one I’m looking forward to and it should be very revealing. I can’t wait.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to HQ for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

I just reviewed The Kill List by Nadine Matheson. #TheKillList #NetGalley

Not as good as her first book and there is a thread of race-baiting that seems to be the undertone of all her books, which is frustrating and annoying.

Jigsaw Man was her first and it was excellent but this third book is lacking for me. The author sometimes goes a bit overboard in her descriptive narration and, with the added undercurrent of blatant race-baiting, it makes her books difficult to engage in. Instead of the reader being pulled into and involved in the story, she leaves you feeling like the “elephant in the room”.

If the author would come off her “soap-box” and focus on the plot, the story of the serial killers and their victims would be better heard, rather than fighting for a place in her public opinion about the colour of people’s skin.

I didn't realise that this was booked 3 of a series so I read the first 2 before I started this one!
What an amazing read. Can't wait to see if there will be another one out. I did guess the right person as the 'burier' towards the end.
