This was a just a great read. I was just all in the story.
Loved the MCs. Lovely written book. i enjoyed more than I expected I would
I haven’t read many of Lindsey Kelk’s books, but having read this one I have no idea why!
I really enjoyed this book and it gave readers a bit of an extra spin as it features an author and her publisher. Although it follows the standard trope of enemies to lovers, this felt a little different to the norm and is full of funny moments that had me sniggering.
An absolute storm of a book, I loved it & will most definitely be looking out for more written by this author in future.
Love Story is another grand slam hit out of the ballpark for Lindsey Kelk! This book is why I love reading romance novels- It was fun, witty, laugh-out-loud funny, endearing and had me rooting for the enemies to lovers couple in the end. The story revolves around Sophie who has written a bestselling romance novel under a different name to keep her real life from being judged by all of the romance genre haters of the world. She has written a sequel to her book on her laptop which gets stolen and thus Sophie is plunged into a world of panic as she tries to act normal while her secret life starts to explode before her eyes. Sophie is also trying to understand and navigate her feelings for her pain in the butt publisher's marketing director, Joe Walsh... It's just all adds up to a lot of steamy fun that I thoroughly enjoyed reading!
Predictable but enjoyable, it did what you expected from it so I cannot really fault it but I cannot give it more than 3 stars as it did not feel groundbreaking in any way, it was just an enjoyable ROM com
4.5*.
I loved this book! It was such a nice easy listen & one I’ll be recommending!
Things I loved:
• the humour
• the pop culture references
• all the characters
• the idea of butterflies
Looking forward to reading more by the author soon! .
Wow, I absolutely adored this book.
As an avid reader, of all genres, it was really nice to read a book based around authors/publishers and critics etc. I especially loved the name dropping off authors I love too.
Lindsay Kelk, really knows how to capture your from the start and make your love the good characters!
With plenty of laugh out loud moments. You will not disappointed
Love story is a super cute rom-com, which was so much fun to read! The only thing i didn't like was the amount of pop culture references (at some point it was just too much)
4.5 stars
I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down! The premise of this one was just fantastic and I loved the conversations about romance and spicy romance. Lindsey discusses the online discourse that some have with romance literature and she does it perfectly, getting her and even my points across in support of the genre.
Sophie and Joe are fantastic characters and the chemistry between the two is off the charts. I loved how as a romance author, Sophie is very aware of how insta-love her feelings are when it comes to Joe but also tries to ignore it because on the surface she is convinced that Joe is the enemy. I ended up really enjoying their romance and banter throughout, also the spice between the two was swoonworthy!
Honestly an amazing romance that is light-hearted but also quite emotional. I adore Lindsey's books and cannot wait for her next book!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
With *Love Story* by Lindsey Kelk, we once again get an entertaining, heartfelt, and intelligent romcom. Lindsey stays true to her typical style: light, humorous, and with excellent banter. The plot is original and deeply rooted in the fascinating world of publishing.
Sophie Taylor is a primary school teacher whose parents are prominent figures in the publishing industry. But Sophie is also the secret Este Cox, the author of *Butterflies*, a spicy, spicy book that disappears from shelves faster than it can be printed.
When Sophie loses her bag, along with her laptop and the manuscript for part 2, she desperately needs help. Enter Joe Walsh, marketing director for her publisher, arrogant, annoying, overly confident, and far too good-looking to be a decent guy.
Sophie now just has to survive a weekend with her relatives and her father’s birthday party while keeping her identity as an author secret from her family – because her parents have no respect for romance books whatsoever.
The chemistry between Sophie and Joe was brilliant. I’ll just say: forced proximity and enemies/rivals to lovers ❤️🔥
The supporting characters, especially Sophie’s eccentric family, bring a lot of humor and color to the story. At first, I found her parents really annoying (I mean, how can you be against romance books?), but over time they grew on me. And I love Charlotte (little sister).
It was interesting how Lindsey picks up on current debates about romance books, like whether they just rely on clichés, could be seen as misogynistic, or are simply printed 🌽. She presents many different points and views on the subject, but without sounding preachy, which I found very refreshing.
The ending felt a bit rushed – the big conflict was resolved too quickly, leaving some questions unanswered. Where’s the proloooogue?? I need it.
I can wholeheartedly recommend this romcom to any romance fan, especially those interested in the publishing world. Lindsey Kelk never fails to captivate me with her stories – after all, this is her 18th book on my shelf.
I wanted to love this so much more!
I read love me do by Lindsey Kelk and absolutely loved it, in my top 5 books but this one just fell short for me. I didn’t connect with the character and I wasn’t a fan of the insta-lust in the story even though I appreciate the fast pace of the book. There wasn’t much chemistry between the main character and found myself not wanted to pick the book up.
However I did enjoy some of the comedy elements of the book and found myself laughing out loud.
Overall, I just think this book wasn’t for me. But it might be for you. I love Lindsey Kelks writing style and love me do.
2.5 stars
I really liked The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk, and found it genuinely funny, and picked up Love Story for that reason. This was cute but didn’t stand out as anything special. It's very fast paced and never drags but there was an over-reliance on pop culture references and the relationship developed way too quickly for my tastes. Didn’t hate it but it’s not especially memorable.
As a long time lover of Lindsey's novels I was very excited to have access to an early copy of the highly anticipated Love Story. I really wanted to love this more and although there was nothing particularly wrong with the novel,I feel like it was overhyped and the expectation of "spicy content" never really happened. That said, the story was enjoyable and I liked it as much as other chick lit novels on the market, unfortunately it just didn't stand out for me. Lindsey's writing remains as always humourous and very likeable and sprinkled with lots of swiftie references.
I really enjoy Lindsey Kelk’s writing and I love the humour inserted into the characters and their banter and this is the best I’ve read from her!
Classically British in some of its humour that you have to cringe right along knowing it has probably happened in real life to someone.
This may be more funny than it is romantic but it is set over such a short time frame that this makes it better for me. The wit and sarcasm from these characters is spot on and is laugh out loud funny in some parts.
There is a serious element to this story and one that is quietly weaving through the love and romance. This is a story of how romance as a genre is belittled, how women who write it or read it are not as high brow as maybe other genres and authors.
I received this book as an ARC through NetGalley and provide my honest opinion
I really really wanted to like this but it felt quite shallow. I also wished this was a dual POV.
It had good moments but overall it wasn't for me.
✨ Book Review ✨
I absolutely adored this book! The way I was constantly messaging my group chat to update them!
I was glued to Sophie’s story from the moment I started reading, as she tries to navigate being a best selling author whilst also trying to keep it a secret from everyone.
Then we meet Joe… ah Joe… of course she doesn’t like him, he’s arrogant, charming, gorgeous (and he knows it). But there’s so much more to him than she first thought.
This is a great read and very funny throughout with some great Taylor Swift references throughout (even as a non swiftie!). BUT it is also emotional, deep and explores Sophie’s relationships with not only herself but her family and friends. I laughed and cried at this one. Already waiting on the next @lindseykelk book!
Such a lovely book to read. I have always been a fan of Lindsey Kelk's work, ever since her first book. I hope everyone will enjoy this as much as I have. It is perfect for a nice summer day. I’ve enjoyed it that much I have read it again.
i read this on my commute over a week or so and loved it so much! i’ve read some of Kelk’s work previously so was going in expecting to enjoy it, and i’m so glad that i did.
i loved the writing style and found our main character Sophie so funny! i felt so seen and loved the references to current trends in romance.
this is the perfect romance novel and is definitely one of my favourites of the summer. i can’t wait to read more from this author!
thank you so much to netgalley, the publisher and the author for the arc 🫶🏻
Lindsey Kelk is one of those authors I know and love for so many years. I have read a good amount of books by her and I am never disappointed. Even though Love Story is not a new favorite for me I still very much enjoyed it and I am so happy that I was able to read it early. I loved the writing style as always and the banter was amazing.
I really wanted to like this but it just fell flat.
The characters were well thought out and so was the idea behind the plot but I got bored. So bored that after reading 60% of the book I really considered giving up.
The FMC annoyed the hell out of me. She was so petty that my eyes hurt from rolling them so much whenever she did or said something remotely annoying.
This book had all the makings of a great story but it’s not for me.
