ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! I was so excited when I was given the chance to read this book since I heard great things about this author, even though I hadn't read anything by her yet (I definitely will now, I promise!). Honestly couldn't put the book down and I loved every aspect of it!!
Another Lindsey Kelk book that hit the spot! 🩷
Loved this so much. Laughed out loud a fair few times! Soo many Taylor swift references, which I enjoyed very much. Perfect for book lovers with lots of book references.
The banter between Sophie and Joe was great. Her sister was hilarious!!
I just think you can’t go wrong with one of Lindsey’s books, perfect to curl up with a devour!
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!
This was such a brilliant read, it had me hooked from the first page. It had everything you want in a romance, perfect banter, he falls first, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, lots of laughter and of course swiftie references.
The chemistry between Sophie and Joe was perfection, honestly it sizzled throughout the book, I was so invested in their story, I was rooting for them from the moment they met.
I loved the development of Sophie’s story, seeing her confidence grow and starting to see how incredible she truly is was wonderful.
Plus it’s a book about an author of a spicy romance book, literally the dream plot.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers and of course the queen Lindsey Kelk for writing this fab book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the ARC of Love Story by Lindsey Kelk
I loved loved loved the romance in this book. Joe and Sophie were great together and they were very very cute. There were some very funny sections of this book that made me laugh. I also like the idea of this book and being a secret author and why someone would do that, especially when they have a regular job.
This is definitely a me problem and completely a personal preference but the thing that stopped it from being a higher rating for me was that I was so desperate for an epilogue and I felt like I wanted just a little but longer for the ending. Also her sister annoyed me so much (which I think is the point) but she really grated on me.

This book follows small-town schoolteacher Sophie Taylor and creative director Joe Walsh. They both initially dislike each other but they end up sharing a cottage. All that whilst Sophie must decide if she can trust Joe with her big secret: she is the famous but hidden romance author Este Cox.
The chemistry the main characters have since the very beginning they met was unmatched. I like how society’s double standards were approached and how it showed the criticism we women get when we say we like to read romance books. Regarding the end, I must add that I think she was too forgiving and that he needed to grovel more, idc. But the only thing that I didn’t like is that it has too many TikTok and BookTok references which I don’t like to read about at all. And, overall this book was a sweet and heartfelt love story 💌
If you like Emily Henry, pretty sure you’ll enjoy this book as well :)
Read if you like:
📖 enemies to lovers.
📖 forced proximity.
📖 banter.
📖 one bed.
📖 insta-love.
Thank you to HarperCollins UK and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Love Story by Lindsey Kelk will be coming out on July 4th.
Sophie is a bestselling author under an alias and no one knows. Whilst at lunch with her godfather who is her publisher, Joe from the publishing agent appears and she has to ensure he doesn’t put 2+2 together.
Sophie heads back home for her dad’s 60th birthday trying to keep her secret from her family and then Joe turns up with his father who turns out to be her dad’s fenemy. Will the birthday weekend go smoothly for Sophie?
This is a classic Kelk love story (see what I did there) with an enemies to lovers trope and something a little different some spicy scenes. Sophie is your typical girl next door, does everything right no matter what and her little secret is huge and she is scared of the judgement. Joe sounds like a total womaniser but you know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.
There is a lot about publishers even done author name dropping with a focus on booktok (booksta was here first) and it’s filled with everything is bookstagrammers love.
A Lindsay Kelk book is like seeing an old friend for the first time in ages, you just know there will be laughter and it will be like you were never apart and this book continues that trend. I loved Sophie, our heroine and I felt this bool was an insight into the world of publishing. Also loved the shout out to other authors, I'm a big fan of that. A 5 star read for me, can't wait for the next one!
Sigh…..Lindsey has done it again. This book is the ultimate love letter to all romance novels and their readers. I felt truly understood throughout the entire story, and it proclaimed everything I ever want to say when people criticize the romance genre.
Joe and Sophie….absolute perfection. I adored the rivalry between them, the sizzling tension was palpable, and I was completely invested! It made my heart race and my stomach flutter, and I never wanted it to end. As for the steamy scenes….well, Ms. Kelk….take a bow because you absolutely nailed it. Chef’s kiss!!
I know this will become a comfort read that I can return to again and again! I can’t wait for everyone to experience this. I've not read a Lindsey Kelk book before, but I'll definitely be reading more after this. It was hilarious, genuinely laugh-out-loud funny, sweet, fast-paced, and incredibly easy to read. The interactions between all the characters felt genuine. While I'm not usually a fan of 'insta-love,' the romance between Sophie and Joe felt authentic. There were many modern references, but they fit seamlessly into the story and didn’t feel awkward or out of place. The ending felt a bit rushed, but not enough to detract from the story overall.

4.25 stars
As a huge fan of romance books, I felt so seen while reading this book. Not only does it delve into how the genre is overlooked by those in the literary world but I loved seeing nods to some of my favourite authors and tropes.
After hearing how steamy Butterflies apparently is, I was expecting the same kind of spice in the actual story but it was mostly closed door. We get a tiny bit of it just for it to end before it even begins, which given what Este Cox's book is all about felt like a disconnect.
I will say, I'm not the biggest fan of insta-love or third act breakups and even though they are kind of explained, Love Story didn't really change my mind on either.
I did, however, like the only one bed trope, forced proximity and a bit of enemies to lovers, even if I didn't feel like they truly hated each to begin with.
There was some nice sexual tension though. I enjoyed the times that they almost get together and the build up to each but I was pretty disappointed not to get an epilogue or to even see a bit more of them together at the end.
Then there's Charlotte, who I just could not get on board with. The way she acted about the 'fake' Chanel bag felt gross and I was so angry on Sophie's behalf for what Charlotte was seemingly allowed to get away with.
But this still had all the wit and charm and plenty of great pop culture references that Lindsey Kelk is known for.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a good old enemies to lovers. Thank you Lindsey Kelk for another easy reading romance, where the characters were lovable and the plot just so easy to follow. The best kind of book in my opinion!
I have been desperate to get my hands on this new book from one of my favourite authors and I wasn't disappointed. In typical Lindsey kelk style it had me laughing out loud for most of it.
I love her style and have read almost every book she's written, this was just as good!
Loved the characters, the cheesy story & the fact it was all about books and authors. What's not to love.
Great beach read for the summer!

Imagine writing a bestselling smutty romance that’s a viral sensation and keeping it secret? Teacher Sophie Talyor does exactly that under the pseudonym Este Cox. She comes from an esteemed publishing family that wouldn’t touch romance with a barge pole. With writers block on the sequel and a family gathering for her dad’s birthday coming up she heads home.
No major spoilers here but…Cue losing the draft, a sexy marketing director Joe Walsh and her ex who still sees himself as part of the family- we’ve all had an ex like CJ we’ve wanted to punch for sure!
This was so up my street humour wise and had some of my favourite romance tropes too:
-Enemies to lovers
-Banter and sexual tension
-One bed in a cosy cottage
-Forced proximity
-Miscommunication in the second half
A very British Romcom that had me laughing out loud throughout. A funny summer beach read for sure. I can’t wait to read Love Me Do which was on my TBR already.

Sigh…..Lindsey has done it again.
This is the ultimate love note to all romance books and romance readers.
I felt seen throughout this entire book, and it shouted from the rooftops everything I ever want to say when people try to disparage the romance genre.
Sophie and Joe. Joe and Sophie….perfection.
I loved the rivalry between them, the tension was sizzling throughout and I was totally here for it!
It had my heart and tummy fluttering and I just didn’t want it to end.
As for the sexy scenes….well Ms Kelk….stand up and take a bow because you served and delivered. Chefs kiss!!
I know this is going to be another comfort read that I can re read again and again and again!
I literally can’t wait for everyone to read this
It is a strange feeling to agree with most of the things written in this book - which is not an essay - but not particularly like the plot or the characters. But be that as it may, this is my current situation.

I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
i have loved Lindsey Kelk since i first read I heart new york. but this is by far my favourite of all her books. it has such the perfect balance of romance, fun, intrigue and spice. Sophie is such a fab character and i love the idea of her hiding that she is the author Butterfly, it is a scenario you can see playing out.
You know from the introduction of Joe, hes someone who notices everything but what the story shows is so much more fun than even i was expecting it to be.
I've not read a story by Lindsey Kelk before, suffice to say I'll be reading more after this.
It was funny, had me genuinely laughing out loud funny, it was cute, fast paced and really easy to read. The dynamics between all the characters felt authentic, I'm not usually a fan of 'insta-love' but the love between Sophie and Joe felt real. There were many modern references but they flowed with the story and didn't feel out of place or cringey.
The ending did feel a tad bit rushed but not enough that it ruins the story as a whole.
Thank you netgalley and harpercollins uk for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
i mean i was expecting big things and those did not disappoint!
i don’t know what it is about lindsey’s books but she has a way of writing that draws you in and makes you want to know the characters.
a incredibly fun rollercoaster of a read!
I absolutely devoured this book. Lindsay Kelk hooked me right in from the start with Sophie's story. She is a teacher but also a bestselling secret author. When hotshot Joe finds out Sophie's secret, he does all he can to try to help maintain her anonymity but can Sophie trust him? There was so much swoon in this book. Joe was such a sweetheart even while I could understand why Sophie acted the way she did. If you've enjoyed Kelk's previous books, you'll love this one. I need to go back and read more of her backlist as her books always leave me feeling happy.
This love story is actually a love letter to the genre of Romance.
It’s a cute sweet rom com that lives up to the “rom com” label and was actually funny! I was giggling in bed as I read this and though it’s packed full of references and slang that occasionally feel cringey and may not age well, on the whole it adds to the story and gives it a very Bridget jones feel.
The romance, though cute, isn’t my fav part of this story - it is the protagonists self discovery and the way it addresses how society judges romance as a genre. Name drops of famous romance authors and the different characters relationships to the genre all serve to validate readers in their love of love stories like this one!
I would have loved a little more of a build up in the romance, and sometimes I found Joe’s hot and cold-ness more irritating than intriguing, but the HEA is cute af.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book is very well-written. It's easy to get into and the author writes visually and engagingly - and she can write humor; I certainly had some chuckles. The premise is fun, though I feel I'm slightly over novels about writers. There have been so many of them - and more just keep coming. It's starting to feel a little stale for me, though I am sure other people will feel differently. I must admit to not finishing this novel, but I think that may have more to do with the fact that I wasn't finding myself turning the pages in that way I need to turn them to stay truly connected to a story. If I don't finish it fairly quickly then I tend to have a hard time picking up where I last left off. I kept going back to it but the momentum was lost for me; I just wasn't gripped in the way I had hoped. This is not to say that YOU will have that experience. Lindsey Kelk clearly knows how to tell a great story, and I wish her lots of success with this one.
