Love Story was a fun and lighthearted novel that grabbed my attention from the first page. I adore books that revolve around books and book lovers, and I truly enjoyed this one. I would love to read more from this author. I would actually love to read Butterflies!
The characters were intriguing and even though I initially didn't like some of them, I felt they developed well, especially the main character, Sophie. She was so funny! I also really liked Joe. I appreciated that the book tackled important topics such as family, insecurities, and friendship.
Some of the plot twists took me by surprise, and I had no idea where the story was headed, but I enjoyed it and the ending as well. If you're looking for a light, page-turner that will make you chuckle and feel giddy, Love Story is the perfect read for you.

✨ Who’s who?

✨ I haven’t read a book from Lindsey kelk in a long time. I think since 2019 and this book is a great comeback.

✨ The story was very light,. The main character is Sophie who writes the most spiciest romance book and she hid her identity because her parents was a literature snobs. She also had a rough breakup with her ex which they invited to go to Sophie’s dad birthday (awkward) .
Anyway, she met Joe. Who’s the son of the publishing boss of Sophie . At first they were just enjoying together but Joe doesn’t do relationship. I know 🚩.

✨ but anyway, up until they met again and people starting to recognise the spiciest book ever, Joe willingly to take the responsibility for Sophie not get embarrassed to her family.
Story is funny. Light and airy.
Just perfect for summer ❤️

✨ Thankyou @harpercpllins for the opportunity to read this book for a honest review:)

What a fun and romantic read, and so, so funny (as usual for Lindsey Kelk!) - the perfect summer read, that's both a love letter to the romance genre and a perfect example of it itself. Loved it.

An easy read that is very modern and relevant, up to date on all things bookstagram and booktok and felt personally gifted to book lovers everywhere.
The romance element felt forced and I didn't get the connection between the main characters, it felt too sudden how quickly they were interested in each other with no build up

4.5-5 stars
This fast-paced rom-com was written beautifully and I adored the love-hate relationship between the two MCs - I couldn't get enough! It embraced the whole concept of ‘romantic comedy’ and there were some outstandingly hilarious quotes and banter. I adored Sophie as a main character and I felt she was very very relatable. I could almost feel the tension between the main love interests!! I have read previous novels by the same author and equally loved her books and personal style of writing. Joe was such an iconic love interest as I feel as we've all encountered his type before, yet his character development was entertaining and by the end of the novel, I thoroughly shipped Sophie + Joe!!
Sophie’s sister Charlotte was also utterly hilarious and embodied Gen Z completely. To be honest, all the characters were incredibly witty and lovable!! The plot was set over 3 days but unlike some plots, it felt like much happened over the time frame. I liked Joe as the male mc and the many great tropes were used well. I’d quite like to read the Sophie’s book ‘butterflies’ even though that’s impossible but it genuinely sounds a good read! I like how her romance novel was the main focus point within the plot and along the way the characters developed and grew. I have refound a new contemporary romance author as I loved her previous series! overall: loved it.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book - definitely one for the summer holidays ◡̈

I believe this book has great potential, and while I enjoyed it overall, I think the reading experience could be improved. I appreciated the premise of a romance writer grappling with her personal life and family, but at times it felt a bit frustrating. The family dynamic, in particular, was somewhat stereotypical, with an annoying sister and a quirky, over-the-top father. I enjoyed the parts where the main character had inner monologues about society and related issues. The romance initially felt incredibly fast-paced, but then it transitioned into a slow burn, which I really liked. However, the story felt somewhat shallow because we learn very little about the male lead until the very end.

Enjoyed this advance copy. Thanks netgalley. Found the storyline a little bit slow but I did enjoy it and the characters were mostly likable..... except the ex boyfriend

I flew through this book the humour was elite! It definitely reminded me of my favourite Lindsey Kelk books from the I Heart Series. It's an ode to Booktok/Bookstagram girlies with all our favourite the tropes. At the start I was not feeling Joe but he won be over. The side characters in this book are elite including Sophie's literary family with an editor dad, critic mum, agent brother and book influencer/bookshop owner sister. I laughed so much! The banter, the jokes and the mix ups! The only thing I didn't like was the shade teaching got.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for the chance to read this.

Lindsey Kelk does it again! I love how all her characters are related able and Sophie is no exception! With the added bookstagram and tiktok references, this book was funny, sad and romantic!

I love Sophie's secret life, in particular hiding behind her pseudonym and the story behind the pseudonym - Este Cox. ALL of the good tropes here - workplace romance (sort of), forced proximity, only one bed, enemies to loers, and I love how both Sophie and Joe mention them throughout. Definitely a book girls book.

I love Joe's "I'm not Eric" rhetoric.

Missing a star because it did the thing i hate the most in a romance. End right as we get to the HEA.

Sophie is hiding a massive secret, she’s a super successful writer, however, she writes smutty romance and that doesn’t fit into her normal life. Her literary parents would not approve and the school she teaches at would probably sack her.
Joe works at her publishing house and thinks he’s uncovered her secret. It’s confirmed when he finds a copy of her manuscript. But will he keep her secret?

#EnemiestoLovers and #onlyonebed mixed into one. I’m a recently converted @lindseykelk fan. This was an easy read, that left me feeling warm and fuzzy, although if I’m super honest it was a bit slow paced at times. I’d still recommend it though. I love a good British read!

This was an absolute pleasure to read, it’s a delightful story of love, family, friends and secrets! As with all books by Lindsey Kelk, this was a very easy to read book with the pages turning ever faster as I needed to know what was happening with and would happen to the characters she had introduced me to and made me care about.
This love story feels like it dipped its toe into many of the classic tropes and to me, it did a good job of mashing them together forming a very heartwarming tale that only disappoints in that it ends and I have to leave the characters behind and move on away from them now.
I guess it’s the test of a good book that you feel sad to leave the characters behind especially when there is a low chance of meeting up with them again until I decide to re-read this lovely book and enjoy the wonderful and at times surprising story arc once again.

Sadly this fell a little bit flat for me overall. It was great to pass the time, but not particularly swoony or memorable.

I wasn’t sure if I’d like this book to begin with but it really won me over in the end!

I loved the secret author storyline. I thought that was a really great plot and the fact that most of Sophie’s family didn’t know. I don’t want to say too much without giving the plot away, but I love who everyone thinks is the author. I thought that was a funny twist, even though Sophie’s idea would have been better and a lot more reasonable.

A few reasons why this wasn’t a five star read. I did think Sophie was a little dramatic/sometimes came across as closer to a teenager with how she behaved. I also thought Joe was sometimes a bit too unrealistic, like when he read from the book or had memorised parts. Other than that I absolutely adored Joe as a character - a great MMC.

Overall, this was a lovely and quick read. I’d definitely recommend it to others!

First of all thankyou to lindsey and haperfiction for letting me review this fantastic book .

This is the first time I've reviewed one of lindsey books I've been reading her books for along time now , I can say lindsey thank you so much you done it agian !! With a massive fist pump in the air. It had so many laugh out loud moments. The tongue in cheek jokes , which were so very british I absolutely enjoyed. You could really see lindseys sense of humour in this book, You can really see how much hard work she has put in to the story and hope plot itself. I also say thought that lindsey did A.
Great job.Being so delicate with some of the issues when it came to family in this book and how to overcome them.
And I love how much she went in and explored deeper into creative expression In a world of today , we are still learning to be more open about this..

As for the characters , I thought sophie , which is a teacher by day and a Huge successful by
Night And joe , which obviously is the man she loves to hate I thought they were both very strong characters but one most definitely.I feel needs her own book. And that would be Charlotte Sophie.Sister I thought she was absolutely.

As a die hard fan of Lindsey's books.I really thoroughly enjoyed this.
I love every moment from beginning to end.And I'm really looking forward to see if we do get any more from these characters.I feel like the end is not the end. Such a brilliant enemies to lovers story.

It's a love story baby i'm giving Five stars

Lindsey Kelk always writes the best stories and Love Story is a another fun read. Sophie can't stand Joe when she meets him, so we get a bit of enemies-to-lovers, but she is also hiding a big secret, so there is a secondary piece to the story that spices things up even more. Really enjoyed this one!

I love Lindsey Kelk books, so I was sure I was going to enjoy this - and I definitely did - but the cover and blurb suggest two different stories to the one that’s actually there. I think had I not been such an ardent fan, that both of these might have put me off a little bit. It’s not a ‘you’ve got mail’ scenario and the ‘primary school teacher versus publishing mogul’ isn’t a true picture either.

This is a woman meets man story with a nom de plume secret thrown into the mix.

Why Sophie takes such an intense dislike to Joe is a little bit of a mystery, and as a story that deconstructs romance fiction tropes as part of the telling, it’s one that isn’t really addressed and remains a bit unfathomable.

But after a drunken afternoon of karaoke with the devilishly handsome Joe, Sophie heads back to her parents’ home for her dad’s big birthday.

Sophie’s keeping a secret from her parents and little sister, she’s the author behind the blockbuster romantic fiction story taking the world by storm. Knowing how her publishing royalty parents feel about the genre, and how her school might feel about her racy sex scenes, she’s decided to keep her identity secret for now. Her brother and godfather are in on the secret as her agent and editor but no one else knows.

Then when Sophie realises she’s left her laptop and printout to the novel’s sequel on the train, panic sets in.

And then Joe turns up for the weekend as a party guest and ends up sharing the guest cottage with Sophie, things take a turn both unexpected and then obvious.

Full of Lindsey’s customary wit, warmth, humour and insight, this is an absolute winner of a story - I enjoyed every minute of it.

I never did understand why Sophie took against poor Joe, he seemed to be a thoroughly likeable chap, as well as hot as hell but that’s the love/hate, enemies to lovers trope for you…

So much fun!

This was my first book by this author but definitely not the last! I really enjoyed this reading this book and loved the Taylor Swift references and I also loved all the author/book references. It’s fast paced and the story itself is so good! Books about writers/bookshops are always a good idea! I want to read Butterflies now after all those things that I read about that book 🤭 I still have Love Me Do on my tbr, I’m gonna read that one soon. I highly recommend this book to everyone who’s looking for a bookish summer read with a lot of Taylor Swift references 🩷

Thank you Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, Harperfiction for this arc.

Sophie, teacher by day and hugely successful romance author by night, is determined to keep her identity as secret. She’s spending the weekend at her parents - both of whom are equally as successful in the publishing industry - to celebrate her dad’s 60th. However, she quickly finds herself entangled in a web of family drama and unexpected attraction to fellow publishing mogul, Joe.

This is an enemies to lovers story, which that also deals with the inherent bias towards romance novels by society. As an English Lit grad/die hard chick lit fan (who admittedly hasn’t picked up a classic book since graduating), I enjoyed how many of the characters’ interpretations of romance change for the better as the plot develops. I also thought Sophie’s family were absolutely brilliant, especially her little sister Charlotte, who should have her own spin off!

I did feel like the ending was a little rushed, but maybe that was me being extra picky… still a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me though. Also bonus points for the book mainly being set in Derbyshire where I’m from. ☺️

Ugh, the cover is too cute for a book to be this bad.

Firstly what was good about this book……… I did like the sibling relationship between the older two and a primary school teacher moonlighting as a debut best selling spice author. Sounds amazing.

Secondly what was bad……
1, too many pop culture references - Taylor Swift i get as the book title is a song lyric, but how many times do you need to mention Iron Flame, CoHo, Ali Hazelwood and other popular romance writers, literally every page had about 15 pop culture references.
2, sexual assault is SA not a humorous plot point - in one scene an older female character trapped the MMC alone in a bedroom while removing her clothes and asking him to F**k her like his writings. If a male character did this to a female character is would be assault- just because their roles reversed does not make it okay or funny.
3, a parent being disappointed her child became a teacher and called her a waste of talent.
4, a truly vile excuse of an 18 year old who has never learned of a consequence- this 18 year old, blackmailed characters in front of her parents. Multiple times went through others belongings to find things then stole them *because she liked them* again her parents were like “let her have them, he likes it”

Overall this book was just not okay for many reasons and I’m fully disappointed in myself for not DNFing this when i realised i wanted to
