Grumpy sunshine slow burn forced proximity romance. I love books where the female lead is grumpy and the male lead is sunshine. Fun premise, but I wish the romance would have happened sooner. Well written but, personally, I didn't really connect with these characters. A pretty quick easy read though.

I will not be reviewing this book as it unfortunately expired on my NetGalley shelf before I was able to read it. My review is based on the blurb of the book, which I will be reading when it was released.

Boring.

This book was charming and would make a delightful addition to your beach bag. While it wasn't a perfect match for me, due to its somewhat slow burn that occasionally lost my interest, it still had plenty of enjoyable moments. Overall, it's a sweet and light read that's perfect for a relaxing day by the shore.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing an eARC of this book, this is my objective review. Our fmc Maya is methodical and an over-thinker with the heart of a musician. She books a swanky vacation package in Mallorca after failing to get the theater job she wanted. Alex, our mmc, is currently working as a property developer in his family's business. Reeling from what he sees as his friends' betrayal, he impulsively books the same vacation package as Maya. The forced-proximity trope ensures that they must share the same room they both booked, and they get to know one another as they end up taking a joint vacation. There was a dryness to the writing that made it difficult for me to fully sink into the story, but I did enjoy the author's careful peeling back of the layers of both main characters. We are helped to see why both Maya and Alex are the way they are currently, as well as why neither are fully happy in their present-day lives. Maya is a bit rigid and Alex was smugly clueless at the beginning but mellowed some along the way. I'll be honest, for me these two made such a bland couple. And while I don't mind the opposites-attract trope, these two initially were so different that a relationship seemed unlikely. They gentled towards one another as the story went on, but I found the attraction difficult to fully believe in. Extremely slow burn, maybe a bit slow for me but I think others will enjoy the gentle progression. Also, the description calls this a romcom but there was very little in this book that was funny. Gently entertaining, but not comedic. I think this was written fairly well and is a gentle, very slow burn, individual growth-focused story with a romantic undertones. It just wasn't the book for me.

This was a fun, easy read. The perfect summer holiday book!

The supporting characters were fantastic (especially the women). Alexis, Chiara and Lana have so much potential to be main characters in their own novels!

I loved the way the author dealt with Alex’s feelings around his sister, and the way he remembered her. The feeling of life moving on, when we are stuck in the past, is one many of us can relate to.

Having loved the supporting characters, I didn’t warm to the main characters the way I wanted to. I felt that both of them routinely didn’t stay true to character.

I also felt that the slow-burn was too slow at the beginning. It didn’t feel as though there was going to be a romance at first! It felt like they weren’t attracted to each other at all, then suddenly were very much saying the other was attractive out of the blue. They certainly weren't 'enemies.'
I definitely feel that this book ‘saved the best for last’ and I felt much better about it upon finishing than I did mid-way through.

3.5 sunny stars.

This is the perfect book to read during the summer months. It was easy to follow and had a good cast of characters. I did find it a little slow in places but once I got past these places I enjoyed it more. I recommend it to other readers.

This was a simple, fun, easy and quick read. The perfect type of book for your holiday, beach, pool kind of read. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Sadly I had to DNF this book around 35%. I was not feeling the characters and could not imagine how they would have chemistry. A great premise, but not living up to the hype unfortunately.

Even though the story started off on a good note, I could not get past the 60% mark. It was quite cliche as expected, which made the story rather boring. There were times when I had no idea what was happening and didn’t understand why certain parts of the story were relevant.

Another big red flag for me was how the characters were acting as if they have known each other for significantly longer than a few days. This was especially weird with the side characters. For example, who in their mind tells someone they have met 3 days ago that they will be proposing to their girlfriend and invite them to the dinner. It’s not like these characters have family members they could invite instead of some strangers.

I will stop ranting now! I hoped for this book to be something it wasn’t, maybe it will be a book you would enjoy?

Trope-y but fun. And Mallorca! Maya and Alex are opposites who find themselves sharing space as a result of a series of mistakes. It turns out to be the best thing that could have happened to them. This made a good summer read.

I hate leaving bad reviews but this was just “okay” for me, I wouldn’t recommend it and won’t remember it in a weeks time.

The story is about Maya and Alex who book the same holiday deal at the exact same time and somehow this ends in a double booking (very very unlikely), they then end up having to share a suite in a hotel (very very unlikely). On the outside this had everything I enjoyed (one bed, forced proximity, slow burn, grumpy x sunshine), it just was all very unrealistic and in my opinion there was no chemistry between the two love interests. I also didn’t really like either of them and didn’t root for them.

No hate to the author art is subjective, this just wasn’t for me.

Maya plans everything down to the finest detail. She budgets, makes lists, and doesn't color outside the lines. She finds a steal of a deal vacation at a 5 star resort and takes a vacation that is years overdue.
When she goes to check in for her flight, they don't have her on the flight. When she goes to check into the hotel, they don't have her reservation. As a fellow type A personality, this gave me mad anxiety. I double check confirmations just like Maya. Turns out there was glitch in the booking system and another guest and her had booked at the exact same time.
This book is the case of opposites attract. The other guest who booked a last minute vacation in paradise is Alex. He goes with the flow, seemingly unbothered by the cluster that having booked the exact same room as a stranger causes. Because the resort is full, Alex invites Maya to sleep in the suite with him. It has a private pool, hot tub and is large enough for the two strangers to cohabitate. It is a slow burn full of vibrant characters as we watch both characters come out of their shell and explore the freedom of exploring something new.

Maya makes a rash decision at the end of the book that is uncharacteristically chaste and I felt like it didn't fit with the ending of the book.
This book was a refreshing concept and a fun, beach read. You will be aching for a vacation after finishing. Alex and Maya have perfectly balanced chemistry and the author gives us a full circle grand gesture at the end of the book.

Mimi Deb's 'The Accidental Holiday' is quite charming. I thought this was an easy read and I quite enjoyed the tropes. Maya reminded me a lot of Sally Albright from 'When Harry Met Sally.' She's so particular about things, but I think the difference between Maya and Sally is that Maya knows exactly what she wants and she's willing to get over her fears and anxiety. At the end of the novel, she steps out of her comfort zone. We love to see that!

However, I didn't love Alex as much. He was just very stubborn and annoying. Normally, I'm a huge fan of opposites attract but Alex was unlikable on so many different levels. As for the romance, I don't think they had much chemistry or romantic development. It just felt rushed.

Regardless, 'The Accidental Holiday' is a quick fun read. The premise is good. I cant wait to read more of Mimi Deb's books!

I liked this story however found it somewhat predictable despite the 2 characters not having much chemistry between them at all. The romance that did build felt rushed and not based on much unfortunately.

I really enjoyed this easy read! I absolutely loved the setting and for a moment was very depressed that I wasn’t on holiday reading it by a pool. I think the setting and description was executed really well and felt realistic. The only reason why this wasn’t a 5 was because I felt there wasn’t enough of a connection between the two main characters. I think the set up between just being roomies and transferring to something more wasn’t slowly built up enough. And it also felt really one sided so I felt it harder to connect to the romance side of the book. I would have liked an epilogue to see where the characters are in the further and if there ‘relationship’ grew.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a great idea with really clear cut main characters. It was a classic will they won't they? and I wasn't sure which way it would go but I was really rooting for both Alex and Maya and liked them both as people. I also loved the descriptive writing of Palma. It really made me want to visit. Mimi Deb's writes really clearly and I look forward to reading her future books.

I would say the secondary characters names were sometimes too similar, Jorge and Javier and I had to keep checking which was the brother and which was the boyfriend of Alexis - also similar to Alex.

I started reading this 6 days before I flew to Majorca myself and I picked it based on the cover, so had no idea!! I found this a very happy, cute read as I loved the character development and forced proximity plot. I enjoyed it thoroughly and found myself imagining the scenes as I walked around Palma! Highly recommend if you like the enemy to lovers/forced proximity vibes!
