This is just a cute, cozy, whodunit mystery, YI missed the first one in the series, but will go back and reread and already have the third in my TBR list.
Jeanie and her 2 friends are a part of the "Bad Girls Murder Mystery Club". At Jeanie's bachelorette (hen) party, a murder happens and the girls try to solve the case. All while Jeanie tries to manage her 4 high maintenance sisters, a grieving mom, an aloof fiance, his mother, and her twin toddlers.
Positives:
Great pace
Good characterization. I especilally enjoy the friendship between the Clio, Nina, and Jeanie
Lighthearted
Negatives
None really. You get exactly what you would expect from this book. An enjoyable read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review an advanced copy of this novel. I highly enjoyed it and will be recommending it.
Murder on the Dancefloor is the second in the series but it totally stands by itself. During Jeanie's hen weekend, the party stumbles over a dead body. As part of the Bad Girls Detective Agency, Jeanie and her friends take on the case with some light assistance from her sisters, mother, and other folks. The mystery itself isn't too hard to predict and resolves itself all in a rush at the end while relying on some fairly standard tropes. But, in many ways, the key mystery is how people in relationships (whether fiancees, siblings, etc.) misunderstand each other, themselves, and the relationship too. And, on that front, Murder on the Dancefloor is a satisfying, enjoyable read.
You need to read the first book before this one! However it was nice to see the ladies back and up to what they love! It was good cosy murder mystery.
Sequel to How Not to Murder Your Ex. The ladies of the Bad Girls Detective Agency are out for Jeanie's hen night with all of her sisters, when a young woman is murdered. With two days until the wedding, they all still get involved in the investigation. This was okay, good for what it was, 3 stars.
Princess Fuzzypants here: Jeanie, Amber and Clio are best friends as well as business associates. They are the Bad Girls Detective Agency and when they join Jeanie at her painful hen party the weekend before her wedding, they have no idea they will be on the hunt for a murderer. Root canals would be preferable to “festivities” dreamed up by Jeanie’s sisters. The murder is almost a relief. Jeanie’s relief is short lived when she realizes that her own life will be spinning out of control before the weekend is done.
Amber, a former detective, knows what she is doing and does her best to keep her friends out of harm’s way. Clio is a walking disaster and Jeanie, who is a bit better, does her share of silly stuff. There is humour here but with a bite. The three ladies do manage to uncover the killer with the aid of some unexpected helpers. In spite of solving the case, will Jeanie’s wedding take place. The odds are not looking good.
I did enjoy the book and the various twists it took. Four purrs and two paws up.
Murder on the Dancefloor is the second book in the series that features three friends, Clio, Jeanie, and Amber, who have formed a detective agency. The first book focused on Clio while this book revolves more around Jeanie, who is about to be married. But, things take an unexpected turn when a young woman is murdered during Jeanie’s hen party at a local pub.
I liked this book a bit more than the first one, and I think it was because of the addition of Jeanie’s four sisters plus her mother. There are quite a few characters in this story, but they all add those necessary layers that makes the book more enjoyable. The plot is interesting albeit a bit contrived and, for the most part, the pace is fairly even. In some ways Murder on the Dancefloor reminded me a little of the “perils of Pauline” – someone would escape a situation only to find themselves in yet another predicament. These women are cats with nine lives and that’s what makes this cozy fun.
My one complaint about this book concerns the references to Jeanie’s father and how much she missed him and the support he always gave her. In my opinion this was mentioned and analyzed a little too often and a little too much. It became distracting and slowed down the tempo of the story. However, I would give Murder on the Dancefloor 3.5 stars. NetGalley provided an advance copy.
Jeanie and her best friends Amber and Clio, and Jeanie's four sisters are at her hen/bachelorette party. Jeanie will be marrying Tan, her longtime boyfriend and father of their twins.
Jeanie is having an awful time -- her sisters are the epitome of controlling and self-centred, and they've organized a weekend with nothing Jeanie wants to do. Clio and Amber are supporting her, but Jeanie is upset, but not just about her sisters. She is also worried because her fiancé Tan has been behaving strangely for weeks, and she's becoming convinced he's lost all interest in her and getting married.
Then, an angry young woman is murdered on the dancefloor, and an already stressful weekend turns worse. Amber, a former police detective and now head of the Bad Girls Detective Agency, decides that she, Clio and Jeanie must investigate the murder, particularly as the police detective who picks up the case is dismissive of Amber and her successes as a former member of the police, and Amber can see that the investigation will go sideways if left only to that detective.
While trying to participate in the events organized by her sisters Nicola, Charlotte, Pen and Emma, Jeanie, Clio and Amber ask questions and dig into the lives of the dead woman and her acquaintances. The police quickly arrest a young man seen arguing with the woman shortly before Jeanie stumbled into her body, but Amber, Clio and Jeanie are convinced the police detective is wrong. The more they dig, Jeanie becomes worried, as her fiancé Tan seems to be somehow involved with the various nefarious dealings they're discovering. The question is whether the Bad Girls Detectives will piece together all the facts and the identity of the killer before Jeanie's wedding.
This was reasonably enjoyable. The mystery kept me reading, and the dynamics amongst the sisters is aggravating in the extreme, as they kept bulldozing over Jeanie's wishes. I liked Amber quite a lot, and how she and Clio supported Jeanie through an extremely stressful time.
I'm intrigued enough in the central trio to read book one, and look forward to the next book in this series.
Thank you to Netgalley and to Boldwood Books for this ARC in exchange for my review.
The good thing about this title is that, although it's a sequel, much of the first book is spoon fed to you throughout this one.
Unfortunately, that is one of the few good things about this title.
A lot happens and yet nothing really does - the female detective agency doesn't appear to actually solve crimes (despite this being the whole premise of the book) and everyone somehow knows but simultaneously doesn't know about their job.
The main character's sisters are awful caricatures who add nothing to the story yet seem to simply just be shoe horned in to tick boxes.
The three 'detectives' are overgrown children and none of their decisions really make sense as women in their 40s.
Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for this ARC.
This is the 2nd book in The Bad Girls Detective Agency series. I found this book to be another quick fun read! I had not read the first book when I received this Arc and found it could be read as a standalone. After reading this I went back and read the first and there are definitely links between the two books but you do not need to read the first to read the 2nd.
I really enjoyed how funny this book was and reading about the relationship between all the characters. Looking forward to seeing what comes next in this series!
Although I haven't read the first book in The Bad Girls Detective Agency series, How Not To Murder Your Ex, I really want to after reading Murder on the Dancefloor. It's not necessary to have read the first book as I really enjoyed meeting this colourful group of girls and I felt that I got to know them over the course of the book.
Jeanie's hen party takes a sinister turn when a body is found in the nightclub where they are partying. Jeanie is with her mother (who spends the evening reading her kindle), her quirky sisters (who could be an alternative to the Spice Girls) and her friends (who form The Bad Girls Detective Agency). An investigation soon begins that puts Jeanie's wedding at risk.
This is a really fun crime caper that is very entertaining and would make a great TV series. I had my suspicions about who the murderer was but there are a lot of threads to untangle before the big reveal. I loved how everything came together at the end in a very satisfying conclusion.
Entertaining, fun and captivating, Murder on the Dancefloor is a heartwarming cosy mystery with friendship and family at its heart. I loved it and will definitely be reading the first book in the series to find out more about this wonderful group of friends.
I received a digital ARC to read and review for the blog tour and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.
Murder on the Dancefloor is the sequel to How Not To Murder Your Ex. I have read the previous book and really enjoyed it so was looking forward to this instalment. Yet again I found it to be a humorous murder mystery that was dark and gripping in places and laugh out loud in others. I really enjoyed it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my ARC.
Mabel Canning is on the case
When a murder had taken place.
Chaperoning a young American to a dance,
Someone being killed there - is it just by chance?
An enthralling 1920s cosy crime thriller read
With suspects a plenty and more clues in need
With a kidnapping, too, Mabel and her club try to investigate
They need to rescue the victim before it is too late!
A fascinating read with great characters who
Give an insight into to attitudes and life then, too.
The story builds as secrets are uncovered
Keeping you guessing till all links are discovered.
I really enjoyed all the twists, the turns and surprises
As the truth everyone finally realises.
For my copy of this book I say thank you
As I share with you my honest review.
Jeanie is getting married and thinks don’t go to plan !
On her hen night in a local night club Jeanie stumbles upon a dead body , the body of a girl who the hen party had an altercation with earlier in the night .
The Bad Girls Detective Agency can’t resist a good mystery and take it upon themselves to investigate, days away from the wedding .
Fun and games ensue along with some heart warming moments to make this book an enjoyable read.
I enjoyed the first in the series but think this book is better than the first .
A funny and heartwarming cosy mystery .
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books.
So I made a classic reader mistake and didn’t realize that this was a sequel!
While I was still able to enjoy this funny and entertaining murder mystery, I would have liked to have known the background of the girls which it sounds like I would have got in book 1
After reading How Not To Murder Your Ex I was eagerly anticipating the sequel, I can definitely say it surpassed all my expectations. This was a great cosy mystery that centres around strong, feisty women and their crime solving escapades. This is a mix of dark twists, multiple motives they keep you guessing. I was glad to catch up with the characters and laughed out loud, I am now eagerly awaiting book 3 in this wonderful series.
For Jeannie’s bachelorette party, the girls take her to a night club. Things are fun, until they’re not. When a young woman is found dead in a t shirt from Jeannie’s party, it puts the group front and center in a murder investigation…as suspects. In order for Jeannie to make it to the church on time, or at all, the Bad Girls Detective Agency is going to have to figure out who killed the young woman. Can they do it, or will they all be sent to prison for a murder they didn’t commit?
This was a really good read. At times you’re sitting on the edge of you seat and at others you’re laughing outlaid at the goings on. It’s smart, fun and has a great mystery.
I absolutely loved Katie’s first book, How Not To Murder Your Ex, and so I was thrilled to see the Bad Girls Detective Agency, aka Clio, Amber and Jeanie, back together again. And this book lived up to all my expectations! Another fantastic cosy mystery with the girls cleverly beating the local detectives once again to solve the case. This one is full of great twists and turns where you think you’ve solved it only for another twist to spring up. I loved how the book showcased Jeanie this time and it was great finding out more about her backstory and family dynamics: lots of fun and giggles with her sisters. I hope the gang will be back together again soon!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, Boldwood Books, for inviting me to read an arc in exchange for a review.
Jeanie is on her hen do, but when a girl is murdered on the dance floor the weekend of fun turns into something very different.
Jeanie and her two best friends, Amber and Clio, must find out what happened and prove they aren’t involved.
This was a cosy mystery, full of a few dark twists, filled with fun characters and a fast plot to keep the reader intrigued.
I loved being back with these characters, and although this is the 2nd in a series I felt this could still be a stand-alone novel.
This was another great novel by Marsh and a great addition to this series.
