The book description was interesting enough to convince me to read it.

The story itself was just okay. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either. It was interesting enough that I will give the second book a chance to redeem it for me before marking this series as a DNF.

Maggie's job is to take souls to the gate after death. She loves what she does and wants to achieve more and be a guard. To do that, they need her help in finding a soul that's been lost. Shouldn't be an issue for her right? Well, would you call being trapped in a human body good? It seemed like it was going to be such a good read. But early on the world building just wasn't cutting it for me. I needed more well developed world. The character's weren't bad though and there were moments that made me still want to give the next book a try and see if it's one of those the second book was better kinda deal.

Overall, if you like this genre, give it a try when you have the time and see what you think of it.

I really enjoyed this book because even though the premise of a soul collector or soul taker has been done before, this one put a fresh spin on it. Mercy is a Soul Collector, and one of the best, but she doesn't exactly play well with others. She just prefers to do things her way. But when things go wrong (she gets pulled into a girl's body while trying to locate her stolen soul), she has to play along at being said girl until they can get her soul back in her body. The only problem is that the good guys aren't the only ones looking to claim this girl's soul when she dies.

Mercy was a lot of fun to read about. She's definitely a strong female protagonist, but she had to learn to soften up a bit if she and the others on her side were going to prevail. The plot moved quick so this was a fast read, but a satisfying one, with a fulfilling ending.

5/5 stars.

Soul Taken is a wonderful novel that I'm glad that I got to read. Although I couldn't connect as much to the main character, I did love the plot.
