The latest in the Little People Big Dreams series.
As always, beautiful illustrations that depict Beyoncé's life, from childhood through to pop superstardom. A perfect level of description to hold the attention of the target market, with the longer summary at the end providing more detail.
I absolutely loved this new addition of the Little People, BIG DREAMS series. The illustrations are nice and colourful and Beyonce's biography simplified in a child-appropriate way. Whether a kid already knows and idolises Beyonce or is just in need of a new empowering role model, this book is a wonderful volume to read and be read to.
Thank you Frances Lincoln Children's Books for providing the eARC via NetGalley.
This book is so cute and everything, the story is nicely simplified but not dumbed down, and maybe it's just me, but I don't recognize Beyoncé in the illustrations!!! Especially since they have real photos of Beyoncé in the back of the book, couldn't the similarity have been a little stronger? It just didn't capture the essence of Beyoncé for me. But maybe I'm not appreciating the art as much as I should be. I certainly do love the illustrations. I'm also not sure a child would be this critical. But still, I can't give it 5 stars for this reason!
While I am a fan of this biography series for kids, and a fan of Beyoncé, I think I can remove myself professionally and still review this book objectively.
And, it's great.
Not only does Little People, Big Dreams: Beyoncé celebrate Queen Bey herself; the book celebrates perseverance, passion, and Black excellence. If you're collecting the Little People, Big Dreams biographies...or selectively choosing for your library (like I do), this is a must-buy.
I am so excited that the Little People, Big Dreams collection of stories has added Beyonce to the mix! This was a great story and provides an excellent high level introduction to Beyonce - her trajectory and contribution to music history, shaping what R&B looks like today. As well as shaping who she is as a person beyond her music career. The illustrations are gorgeous and eye-catching. The elements of the story are well crafted and a great inspiration for young girls who are reading this story.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this eARC to read and review!
I'm always excited when I see a new book added to this series. I knew practically nothing of Beyoncé's life before Destiny's Child so it was fascinating to see what she got up to in her childhood and how her career took off and went through so many different stages. I love love loved the art style in this one and thought it matched the story perfectly. Another great inspiring addition to the series!
I don't know how many under 10 children will aware of Beyonce so I'm not sure how many would seek out this book. Whilst this book provides some background into her life, I feel it glosses over many of the incredible achievements which Beyonce has achieved in her career.
I would say these books are aimed at a much younger audience than some of the first that were released, and I would assume they are now being targeted at children aged 8 and under. I think there is a market to expand on these books and include much more content, filling some of the holes these books leave. For younger children, these books definitely have a place, but I'm not sure many will discover the significance of Beyonce from the content within this title. The main draw to these books continues to be the illustrations.
This is such a cute addition to the Little People, Big Dreams series.
It is a very brief overview of Beyoncé’s life and career, making it perfect for young readers. The illustrations are beautiful!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC. All opinions are my own.
As a K - 5 teacher, I enjoyed this book. The illustrations are kid-friendly and could help provide visuals during class read alouds. The text would help children in grades 3 - 5 learn more about Beyoncé's rise to fame. The timeline runs from her childhood all the way through the present and pages have one to two sentences which makes the text accessible to children of all ages. The last page has real pictures of Destiny's Child and and a few pictures of Beyoncé winning her prizes and a few performances.
The only thing that I wish were different is the illustrations. I wish they looked a little more like Beyoncé, but they are kid-friendly and they are colorful.
How cute of book about Beyoncé and her growth to fame. I being someone who has attended and listened to Beyoncé music and concerts learned some things from this book. Her accolades being on display and also her most popular song “single ladies” being tied to her own love life. The very ending about lemonade and her tying it in with black women and family warmed my heart.
It’s great to see another little people book particularly when they feature female role models. Nice and easy to read and some lovely graphics make this a firm favourite,
This is a short graphic novel about the how Beyonce became the star she is today, in my personal opinion I would have liked even more information since it seems extremely short but still enjoyable.
Perfect for kids
This was such a cute book! I really loved the illustrations. They added a lot of depth to a simple, yet captivating description of Beyonce’s career. I especially loved the illustration of her in all of her red carpet looks with her many awards. This is a great introduction into Beyonce’s career and gives room to show that her accolades are still growing.
Cute book in the Little People Big Dreams series! The illustrations are great and show major memorable pieces from her career in great detail.
Little baby Bey was adorable! I loved reading Beyoncé’s story! She is a very huge pop sensation and has truly paved the way for many artists through her art & musical genius! I loved learning facts about her art, and didn’t know many of the personal facts I learned in this book. I think the theme of the book is “keep reaching for your dreams!” And also our dreams require hard work & dedication, but we can do it when we work hard!
I think the illustrations could have been a little better!
I have been a fan of Beyoncé's music for a long time so it is great to see her being celebrated and learn more about her.
This series just keeps getting better and better and Beyoncé’s installment is truly a work of art! It starts with her young life as a musician and her journey to forming Destiny’s Child and then through her many transformations as an artist, breaking all the barrier’s and molds in not o let R&B/Hip Hop/Rap, but the music industry as a whole. The artwork is so vibrant and joyful and I will happily be adding the finished copy to my home library.
I absolutely love these animated biography books!
The drawings are amazing and the story is very inspirational! Go QueenBey 🐝
Another addition to an excellent series of brief bios for kids, with good clear writing and illustrations and a timeline of their life. I am neither her nor there about Beyonce, so have no opinion about her, but the book, one in a series, continues it's job of reaching out to young audiences and giving them what they want.
Cute book with inspirational story. It reads more as a nonfiction book rather than a story. I think it would be more enjoyable if it included more storytelling elements.
