What a cute little story! I love this tale of the tree bringing two friends close and as they age taking care to plant new trees and roots of their own as well. Well written, illustrations are adorable. Really glad we read this one as a family.

A lovely, gentle rhyming book about nurturing, love and growth. Beautifully illustrated and written, this book tells the story of two young children who grow up loving trees and playing in them. They go on to marry and have their own family, planting new trees and embracing nature. A lovely story, with instructions on how to plant acorns, encouraging children to engage with nature.

Everything about this was beautiful; the rhyming, the illustrations, and the over arching story. A few tears were shed, but I still smiled the entire time. I cannot wait to have this in our library. What a sweet, sweet book.

This book is so lovely and charming. Follow two kids who meet and play by a tree- as the tree grows up, so do they; and the importance of the tree is always with them. A great book to talk about nature and the passage of time with children. The illustrations are subtle and delightful.

This is an adorable picture book with soft, calm illustrations. As the children grow up, the tree they play on grows and changes. There is so much positivity here. This would be good for a classroom but also for a bedtime book.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

My Friend Tree is a short book about the life of a tree in the forest. Throughout the book, two children play, collect seeds, and watch the tree grow over the years until eventually they grow up, marry, have kids of their own and of course, have them do things in and around the tree.

I could see this book in a pre k - 2 classroom being used in different units of study. Ecology, living things, rhyme, a unit on family or opposites, are among some of the ideas I instantly thought of as I read this book. I could see myself holding the book up and asking students for descripitons of what they see.

I would recommend this book to anyone with young children or any teacher in the grades preK - 2.

My Friend Tree is a sweet story about two friends that grow up alongside their friend tree. The beautiful illustrations demonstrate how the friends and the tree are there for one another through the seasons. Eventually, the friends plant an acorn to grow a new tree and the illustrations show how the friends grow alongside the sapling.

I think this story would be great for teachers and caregivers to share with young children to show how friendship and grow and change over time. The back of the book has instructions for planting an acorn and watching it grow. Although I probably wouldn't do that particular project with a class of students, it could go along well with a gardening unit while explaining how different kinds of seeds take different amounts of time to grow.

My Friend Tree is a beautiful store of a little boy and girl and their ‘friend tree’.

The illustrations are soft and warm, and perfectly capture the golden filtered light under a tree. Told in equally soft, warm, simple and lyrical prose, the story gently explores the different roles the tree plays, both in its environment, and through the cycle of life.

This book is an easy five stars. It’s simple text will make it more easily accessible for children to read, and I think their grown ups will love sharing this read with them.

Thank you Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.

I appreciated the message of this book, which would be good for Earth Day or Arbor Day. I love the illustrations, especially of the grand oak and squirrels, as well as the guide to tree care at the end.

Good message of the life cycle. I liked how the illustration supports the fact that a tree takes a lifetime to grow big and strong. Illustration was good as well!

This was so sweet! I love the rhyming of all the things the tree did for them. The ending was the sweetest with the growing family. I also loved the acorn insert in the back.

“My Friend Tree” was a beautiful tribute to growing up. The illustrations were beautiful. As a speech therapist in a school district, I would love to read this to my students and discuss the importance of kindness, growing up, and friendships. If you have children or are a teacher, definitely give this one a read.

This book is so sweet! I love how it uses the growth of trees as a metaphor to show how we ourselves are growing and changing. I also love how it accents what specific qualities we need in relationships. The ending comes full circle, as the children who grew up getting the things they need, and uses their little imaginations to explore the world, grow their own family tree.

This book will excite a child’s imagination & ignite an interest in the science of how things grow & what they need to grow. I wish there had been even more writing on each beautiful page.

Great work!

This is a sweet book about what a friend a tree can be to all-people, animals, birds, etc. I love the illustrations and how the tree grow with along with a boy & girl. It ends with information about planting a tree from an acorn. This would be a must have read aloud for Arbor Day!

My Friend Tree by Dawn Casey.
Told in minimal and poetic rhyming text from folktale writer Dawn Casey, and with soft, romantic artwork by Montréal illustrator Geneviève Godbout, the story introduces a girl and a boy who grow up alongside their friend, an old oak tree. The tree is a constant presence in their lives as they play. Inspired by their shared love for their old friend, they plant a new forest, and tend to it together, finding their feelings for one another deepening and changing alongside the growing saplings. As their relationship blossoms, so too does the forest. The loving couple add three joyful children to the branches of their flourishing family tree, and the woodland thrives and grows with them – one living, loving family.
This was a lovely story for children and adults. I loved the illustrations. Very vibrant. 5*.
